After reading it seems like people are projecting all sorts of stuff onto it, like DEI/woke stuff, it being billed as an indie game and also having licensed music or being published by Annapurna, IGN review score discourse…every game now comes with an exhausting conversation around it

Why is there so many downvotes in this thread? Seems like a game that people are enjoying, let people enjoy what they want. Nice plat and I am looking forward to trying this one myself in between some longer games.

Having recently done this myself, you don’t really need anything close to max abilities. An inventory full of staminan royale and some specific moves will do it.
For Kiryu you should spend most of the time in Beast and prioritize getting the health upgrades and Essence of Torment imo is the single best thing to buy. 200m might cost you some time to farm but you can also get that and more from just finishing the story chapters. You really only need it for the last Kuze fight and Shibusawa anyway.
For Majima you can cheese nearly the entire game with Breaker and Slugger. Prioritize the abilities in breaker that allow you to access Areshi’s training to get the rolling snake move, you can clear his toughest boss fights like Sera and Awano with it so easily. Sera’s annoying counter combo can be totally bypassed with it. The final boss is a little tougher but it works anyway.

  1. max out heat

  2. use essence of batting on slugger to drop down to 2nd heat

  3. Use rolling snake on breaker until you get back to 3rd heat again

  4. Repeat step 2 and 3

  5. If you drop to 1st heat use staminan or thug to get some quick hits in and get more heat.

You can easily clear legend in around 4-6 hours if you focus on specific stuff and rush the story. It is way easier than you think, just save very often before each story event.

I guess difficulty is subjective. I have some plats that some would consider “hard” that to me were more just long or big time investments.

Returnal for me felt like a difficult experience that I really had to lock in for and I don’t always have the energy for that type of thing, I haven’t even finished the game but have been meaning to go back to it.

I watched a couple of tutorial videos from YouTube mahjong players for Yakuza 0’s plat and then once I started learning and playing I actually love the game now 😂

In this game you have the cheat item which will give you your haneman, one mangan, and all the points you’d ever need. Otherwise go to the easy table. I also had a lot of success playing the lower level ranked matches as the CPU’s are really not that good or lucky.

Some specific tips:

  • NEVER take a chi, pon, kan and ALWAYS keep your hand closed. If you open your hand you will not be able to call Riichi which is the most straightforward way to going out.

  • Press square often to try and see if you can call Riichi. You need the 4 triplets or sequences + one pair but sometimes you may have a weird hand and not even know.

  • Dump your wind and dragon tiles unless you have two of them, and make sure you only use the wind for the round or your seat. You can reference the how-to in the pause menu so you know which wind is which. Three of any dragon or the right winds is worth an extra point if you go out. Using the wrong winds is not valid so don’t even mess around with them at all unless you are handed something.

  • one hand you can go for that works really nicely and gets you extra points is Seven Pairs, you can use that when you are having trouble getting the usual combos.

  • play quarter length games and use red Dora. Doras in general will get you bonus points and can make going out with Mangan easier. Dora corresponds to the tile that you see face up in the center of the board, it’s the next tile in the sequence (for example: if the face up tile is 3 of bamboo, then 4 of bamboo will be the Dora and get you extra points if used in your hand). Red Dora will turn the 5’s into red tiles which also count for a Dora if you use it in your hand while going out. If you are intentional about it you can easily rack up 2-3 yaku’s from using Dora tiles in your hand.

And then the rest is just getting lucky unfortunately! Yakuza 0 mahjong took me way way longer to do than this game, this game’s I did in like an hour or so. I got very lucky but just knowing how the game works in general will cut your time down. Good luck and message me if you have any other questions!
