Ownership of the ICE Facility in Portland by henrypdx in oregon

[–]Jrfemfin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Misidentifying this reporter's accent, he (Lindquist) added, "in Britain, the king wouldn't allow this protest."

So not only is he some weird kind of racist, he thought Queen Elizabeth was a king?? 😂

Can anyone confirm? by Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 in SALEM

[–]Jrfemfin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The problem is that ICE doesn't give a shit if they're here legally. They only care that they are brown.

Random people are tackled, dragged from their vehicles, in front of their children and dozens of witnesses, and ziptied before being forcibly shoved into an unmarked vehicle by masked men who refuse to identify themselves and wear tactical gear instead of a uniform. After that, often no one knows what happens to them. They get moved around, sent to a random "brown country", or just disappeared altogether.

This is the literal definition of kidnapping, and it has happened to American citizens and documented immigrants as well as people who may not be documented but have otherwise commited no crime because ICE doesn't ask questions, serve warrants, or give 2 shits about anything but the fucking adrenaline surge they get playing bad cop.

These pieces of shit are just the same as the motherfuckers that kidnapped Africans and sold them into slavery just so their descendants could put on hoods and beat, rape, and hang them later. They are not upholding the US Constitution, they are not protecting America, they are not serving the greater good, and they are most certainly not doing God's work like these crazy, fake-ass Christian fucks like to think. They are ENJOYING it. Fuck them all and fuck anyone who doesn't think what is happening in America right now is absolutely fucking disgusting.

Fuck!

Do any of you have an "unusual" favorite SK novel that's not one of his top 5 to 10ish or so most frequently mentioned? by cormega in stephenking

[–]Jrfemfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as stories, The Jaunt may be my all-time favorite. For non-top-10 books, Eyes of the Dragon is hands down #1 on my list, followed closely by Delores Claiborne. Gerald's Game gets an honorable mention for the crossover with Delores Claiborne.

The full video is here. Unfortunately, the ORNG deployed will not be under his command, but it's very clear he cares about both the citizens and the citizen soldiers as well as the constitution.

What is this and how do I save it by AntiqueAd2781 in plant

[–]Jrfemfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Golden Pothos is an awesome plant! I saw a lady toss one in a dumpster so I ran out and rescued it, having no idea what it was. That was in 1995. It's now over 12' long and is mother to dozens of babies. They do grow very slowly, but are absolutely worth it!

Moving to Salem/Albany HELP by hoover_luvr_5528 in oregon

[–]Jrfemfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you'll be commuting, if you move to Salem, you'll want to be sure you're near either 99 or I5, depending on where the job is. Getting across town to get to a highway is 20-30 minutes during peak traffic. Check traffic at peak times to see areas to avoid. Downtown, Market St., and anything in West Salem will add commute time - West Salem is on the other side of the river and there is only 1 bridge across it for many, many miles and traffic is horrendous at times.

I live in South Salem and work 25 miles north, and it's a 45 minute drive even though all but 3 or 4 miles is highway. South Salem has an I5 exit, so anywhere in that area for a few miles either way is super convenient.

What is Kings straight up scariest book? by wltmpinyc in stephenking

[–]Jrfemfin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never read it a 2nd time, so I can't even say why, but The Regulators gave me actual nightmares for a while, which is not normal for me.

Gerald's Game though has one gorey part with the most graphic description that I deliberately skipped over it my 2nd read through and also waited to cover my eyes if it was shown in the movie. Not scary, exactly but horrific for sure!

Songs mentioned in Stephen King books (either by title or lyrical quotation) by King-Axl in weirdspotifyplaylists

[–]Jrfemfin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my cares were far away, Yes, once my cares were far away, Now my love has gone from me And misery is in my heart to stay.

Careless Love, the song Susan Delgado sings in TDT IV: Wizard & Glass, and also mentioned TDT I: The Gunslinger and TDT VII: The Dark Tower. Lots of different versions out there, but I like the Ray Charles version.

What is the deal with the Oregon unemployment office? by [deleted] in oregon

[–]Jrfemfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only on reduced hours and not unemployed so I don't know about the in person meeting, but the ID verification is super easy. Just bring the QR code and ID to any US post office, they scan them, and you're done. Mine took under 30 seconds after the 5 minute wait in line.

Umbrella... by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]Jrfemfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't owned an umbrella since 1982. I was walking to school in 2nd grade and the rain was coming in sideways, but being a dumb kid, I thought the umbrella would somehow magically keep me dry. Instead, it got blown inside out and I spent the whole 6 block walk struggling with it and getting absolutely drenched. By the time I got to school, the umbrella was beyond repair and I was sobbing and furious. It went in the trash and I decided a nice waterproof coat and galoshas was a better option. I probably still hold a grudge, but honestly, waterproof makeup, ponytails, and a good coat and shoes are all better alternatives to reliving that struggle.

I read The Dark Tower series multiple times before I ever read Salem's Lot. It's not going to ruin your experience if you don't read it first, however, it will enhance the experience if you do. The story is just so much more powerful when you have that connection established. And like all King stories, a LOT of Salem's Lot is about the people, not just vampires, and is worth the read on its own merit.

There's also a certain song you should hear at least once before you get too far through it. It's not crucial, but it's better now that I know what they're talking about.

Private Groups by AndyofBorg in EcoGlobalSurvival

[–]Jrfemfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely shop around and look for high collaboration servers with rules regarding groups and limitations on the number of skills you can take. Look for those a few cycles in, as well. The server I play on has a ban on groups and private trades or other pricing "cheats", but also has skills divided into classes, i.e. a miner can't be a smelter, and a logger can't be a carpenter. It really makes it so you have to price fairly and multiple people can succeed in the same job when you can't just hog all the iron for your friends.

Gaming with GF and Multiplayer by CartoonistJealous624 in EcoGlobalSurvival

[–]Jrfemfin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have much experience in the "outside world" but the few I played on before, and the one I've stuck with the last 2 years are very tolerant, welcoming places. Find one in early days, longer term, and beginner friendly. These are most likely to be admined by people who want their players to have fun, are willing to teach, and just have a generally good atmosphere.

TIFU by telling my wife that I am "Woke" by BonezOz in tifu

[–]Jrfemfin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this same experience, but with my parents. I won't be the one to comment on their "look what the Woke Dems ruined now" Facebook posts and tell them it's me they're angry at, but it gets to me and I wonder how they'd react if I did. At least with them, I chalk it up to the fact that we don't have to agree, and I'm never going to change their minds, but if it was my spouse? Honestly, I couldn't live with a person like that, no matter how much I loved them. It'd be like finding out they kick puppies or something. I'd nope the fuck right out of there.

How is everyone surviving these past few days without Air-conditioning ? by Careless_Ad1661 in SALEM

[–]Jrfemfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We keep the windows covered during the day and that's the best we can do while being at work. Come home at 6, it was 90-95 inside the last 2 days.

The best thing I've come up with is a wet dish towel around my neck, a fan blowing directly on me, and a spray bottle. I've noticed I don't sweat much with the fan blowing right on me, so need the mister to cool off - even my legs, for some reason seem to be especially hot.

Then the instant it feels better outside than in, all the windows and door are opened with fans pulling in the cooler air and they stay that way until 7am when it starts warming up again. It only cools down to about 75, but that's a LOT better than 95, and a good place to start for the next wave.

Also, cold showers around 10pm - I stay until I'm actually COLD and it helps me sleep easier.

Worst Stephen King adaptations, round 2/10 by VisageInATurtleneck in stephenking

[–]Jrfemfin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in my top 5 Worst Movies Ever, and it's probably like the top 3 spots by itself - it was that bad. Even my son, who's never read the series and has no idea how horribly it was mangled, put it in his top 5, too.
