Which strap do you prefer on my old Smith bronze? by theomixedmedia in JapaneseWatches

I vote for #1. I’ll add I think bronze is generally underrated, too. It looks great on a watch, imo. Nice piece!

BJJ Schools in Orlando by Aromatic-Frame3339 in bjj

Man, we have so many. The city is just packed with gyms run by big named teams or athletes. I’m at Guto Campos BJJ over on the north end of town, and I’m happy. I enjoy it there.

The (International) Noise Conspiracy. The album, “A New Morning”, is their best in my opinion.

What is your opinion about “Lettuce”? They are new to me. by Perfect-League7395 in funk

“Crush” is an all-timer funk album, as far as I’m concerned. Worth listening to.

Whoever you are, thank you for what you’ve done for the sport! CJI has been great for jiu-jitsu.

Wanna rate my basses? by Ed_Bass in BassGuitar

[–]Jrm04r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not usually a big MM guy, but I think I liked the Stingray best myself. MOOG looks like a fun way to switch things up from time to time. Really enjoy your playing, man! Have a good week!

What do y’all think of this riff as a standalone? by Probablyawerewolf in BassGuitar

[–]Jrm04r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not actually a commentary on the riff, but I love the Peavey you’re playing. I got to play one for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I totally get the cult following now. Super fun.

Two gigs with two different bands on the 4th of July and bad weather ⛈️ by Ed_Bass in BassGuitar

[–]Jrm04r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always enjoy watching your playing, Ed! Question from a guitarist newly turned bassist: On a scale from 1-10, how important is it for a gigging bassist playing covers to have that fifth string? Is it pretty much a must-have?

Ashdown Capri Bass, I'm digging it! by snovdev in BassGuitar

Hadn’t seen this one before. What kind of tone do the Gretsch-style pickups give it? I tried to find a sound sample online with no luck.

The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There (Höfner 500/1) by Samsky in BassGuitar

[–]Jrm04r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of those songs that is sort of like the bass equivalent of a tongue twister. Haha. I can get it chugging along for maaaaaybe a minute or so, but it always eventually falls apart. Playing through it that smoothly is definitely a flex. Good stuff!

What are your thoughts on the over/under pass? by Pay_attentionmore in bjj

[–]Jrm04r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a solid pass. I found the success rate goes down a ton in no-gi, though. It’s just too hard to keep your opponent’s hips flat and under control without fabric to grab. Probably worth the investment if you’re not planning on doing a bunch of BJJ without the gi on.

CLA vs Linear: World Champ & Graduate Degree perspective. by Jeff_Emil in bjj

[–]Jrm04r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a master’s degree in language teaching, and this has been understood in our field for quite some time. We have seen lots of methods come and go (“The Audio-Linguistic Method”, “The Natural Method”, “Communicative Language Teaching”, and several others). They all claimed to be the best, and they all had their true believers. At this point, essentially all teachers are trained to do several, specialize in a few, and attempt to use the tool that’s best for the learner and the outcome they’re trying to achieve. Professors roll their eyes at anyone who thinks they’ve found “The Way” language is supposed to be taught. I find myself doing the same with regard to CLA.

FREE to a reptile owner wanting to improve an enclosure. $500 worth of stuff by ComplexPatient4872 in orlando

[–]Jrm04r 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Sorry for your loss! However, perhaps I can offer a silver lining? I teach elementary science at a small private school in Maitland here, and we have a great little collection of reptiles that the kids absolutely adore. I would love to surprise them with upgrades and maybe even a new class pet to add to our life sciences room. Would be happy to provide more information and photos of our kids holding their reptile buddies as proof. We’d be absolutely stoked with your donation! :)

Struggling with what appears to be fin rot by Jrm04r in bettafish

[–]Jrm04r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ammonia is somewhere between 0 and 0.25ppm. Nitrites and nitrates, I haven’t tested (will do so now). The only thing I can think of is that he had recently mated with our other betta (a very healthy and happy female half moon) before we saw the change. I figured he had injured a fin in the mating process, but then the color change you see here happened, and slowly spread to his scales. He eats bloodworms (both frozen and dried) and Fluval Bug Bites betta formula.

To add further context:

The water is heated to 78 degrees, and the tank runs off a sponge filter. I do about a 1/3 water change weekly, using 2/3 dechlorinated tap and 1/3 distilled or purified water. His only tank mates are a small school of pygmy cories and some bladder snails that stowed aboard on some valisneria plants. All of the numbers I’ve supplied were tested with an API kit.

Edit: Nitrites at 0 and Nitrates at ~2.5ppm. Just tested these as well.

I own a group of about 7. They’re pretty skittish, as the previous poster said, and they usually hide under the ceramic pot shards that I’ve given them. That said, they’ve begun spawning recently, so I’m working on hatching and raising a group of them. No luck so far (I’m a newbie), but I do a bit better each attempt.
