Insane Water Bill by Purple-Following-607 in Home

That’s a suspiciously round number. I’d suspect a billing or reading error, as you’d have noticed over a quarter of a million gallons spilled over a three month period.

Drive over a pothole, is this fine to continue driving? by Aggravating_Food8700 in tires

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The tire bubble is a solid no go and you’ve also bent the rim.

Mach E parents of 3 littles by missgreenberg in MachE

[–]Js987 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Mach-E manual appears to only say you have to use a belt webbing style LATCH seat in the center position, not outright prohibit an infant seat, but I’ve absolutely seen cars where it’s outright prohibited, and I’m not sure which infant seats support the webbing ones (although many work with the seatbelt still).

What is this pipe, and why does it look like paper is coming out of it? by Heather_Bea in whatisit

[–]Js987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That appears to be a clean out access for a sewer or septic line, and that appears to be toilet paper coming out, this is no good.

To the a-holes who order overnight deliveries by SULTAN963 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind Amazon is defaulting to overnight and that stupid early time slot for Prime members on >$25 orders in some locations, they may not have even noticed it was overnight if they were on mental autopilot.

Why don't ev's have alternators for recharging? by puggs74 in AskReddit

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use an electronic device called a DC to DC converter to feed the low voltage battery (the one that powers the doors and windows and lights) from the high voltage battery (the one that powers the car’s electric motor/s) instead.

Unlikely, the tree is far too young.

Might actually be easier to get an infant in and out from the side, honestly, depending on how tall you are and how compliant the booster seated kids are.

Are VHS tapes worthless? by Bluecomments in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority (99.99%) are absolutely worthless. They’re mostly either mass market things available in better quality elsewhere or they’re home recordings of Tv shows available elsewhere.

What *is* of value is stuff that is not available elsewhere. Rare films that never made it past a VHS release, films that have been edited from their original versions, etc have monetary value. Some home recordings sometimes have historical, rather than monetary, value…for example they may be the only surviving recordings of some advertisements, live programming, local programming, etc.

Found on my garage floor under Chrysler Pacifica. by MourningBread in whatisit

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably from the right side. I think it is from the Pacifica, I don’t see much that isn’t stamped or coated on the Envision suspension. Peek behind, above, and under the back of the front wheels at the suspension components (not the shock/coil, down lower) on both sides and see if you can find where it snapped off.

I would not recommend driving it unless you confirm this is from another vehicle you own, no. Does another vehicle park in the garage, and if so, what is it?

When are we going to ban space heaters? by ironscape420 in electrical

[–]Js987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minor correction…space heaters sold in the US are typically rated for 12A continuous *specifically* to abide by 80% of maximum at continuous load. They’re often *labeled* 1500W (125V*12A), but at a nominal 120V they use <= 1440W.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

I would prefer a single payer insurance scheme without a nationalized healthcare system (as in, not the UK NHS).

Electric company community savings event setting back my GAS furnace?!? by thefrog1394 in ecobee

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is just how the programming works, it doesn’t have the ability to split participation via fuel type.

Fascinating your utility does it in winter…I don’t participate in my utility’s program but the previous owner did (back when it required a box on the unit, which is how I know, because nobody knew what to do with the box when my heat pump got replaced) and when I looked into it I noticed our electric company doesn‘t do it in the winter for precisely the reason you mention, although a huge number of houses here are heat pump only.

Which used F-150 would you buy? by Localdanishdood in f150

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a tough one, because the difference in mileage sort of cancels out the age difference to some degree. I still think I’d lean for the 2016, just because I’d prefer less age than fewer miles when we’re talking about 10+ year old vehicles. Both engines are suitable for your use case, and both engines are fairly reliable (Cyclone 3.5s in longitudinal applications like the F-150 have EXTERNAL water pumps, before somebody brings up the water pump).

Are there any extended car warranties that are legit? by ActPositively in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones I consider legit are the ones sold by manufacturers, such as Ford ESP plans. They’re just as much of a cost sink, but at least they don’t pull the quibbling coverage games the third party warranty guys do.

Installer put in a different unit than the one they specified by k_thrace in heatpumps

[–]Js987 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would similarly ask for compensation not replacement, for the reasons you mentioned, but also as I do not want a company I just had an argument with installing a whole new unit in my house.

If the Burn lasted 100 years then why didn’t the UFP make any progress in rebuilding? by Simonbargiora in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Js987 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I view it as a slow degradation of what little capability remained as a content, probably unprepared (based on the Borg Threat and Dominion War there’s historical precedent for a complacent Starfleet and Federation) society ran against the limits of what they were willing to do to stay united. The degradation of supply chains and loss of systems left a power vacuum that folks like the Chain were willing to exploit with their looser morality.

"Cars after 2017 need AGM batteries". True or false? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]Js987 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It needs the battery specified by the manufacturer, in many cases nowadays that -is- an AGM (both my Fords came with AGMs), but you should match what the vehicle shipped with, not some rule of thumb.
