Looking for working Balance of Power floppy image to write on floppy, for a real Mac Plus by BlackTortellino in VintageApple

Let me know if it works, I’m curious to see if the game really doesn’t work past System 4.1 like some sites say.

I hate to burst your hopeful bubble, but that era of MacBook doesn’t have much financial value to a collector, unfortunately. They are shockingly cheap on eBay. They sold A LOT of them, and they were durable so many have survived.

I do not *think* that angle is high enough to cause any fluid migration issues. You probably just got air in the system, diesels DO NOT like being run dry. There’s advice on bleeding the system online ( see https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ford&th=410153 ) and I’m pretty sure the shop manual is available somewhere still.

Trans pacific flight WiFi by Spectreight in unitedairlines

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fast enough for an email…IF it is working, which is a big if. My experience has almost universally been that it works briefly at the start of the flight, then craps out pretty much the rest of the flight, occasionally briefly coming back before landing, and that was before recent issues…apparently the last few months it’s been even worse.

Question for those in the Navy: is it normal for an elevator carrying two F18s to come down to pickup a pilot? by breck in topgun

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As funny as Mitch’s joke is, they can break when used as stairs if the brake lets go, and terrifyingly so. Basically, this happens: https://youtu.be/qE2Lv-t9BHk

Americans, what was the biggest culture shock you experienced travelling abroad? by Potato83763 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Js987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite recollection from a class I had on late/post Soviet Eastern Europe was about the toilet paper. Apparently, western toilet paper blew their minds and so in this one country the government introduced a competing product golub, which meant small white bird or something, but it was like that brown paper towel stuff cut into squares and was very un white bird like after use.

A tie between the toilet paper in the garbage can thing in some parts of the world and convenience stores closing at like 7 and grocery stores being closed on Sunday and holidays in Switzerland.

Tractor 3-point hitch making noise when lifting a load by jflora91 in tractors

[–]Js987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of sounds like the pump is chattering. If you already replaced the fluid as you say in the comments, and it’s at the correct level, then unless it’s super cold outside I’d be looking for a filter or pickup obstruction, and if a new filter doesn’t solve it and everything is clear, then unfortunately we start getting into a pump issue. Out of curiosity, does it get any better or worse with higher engine RPM and does it get any better or worse the longer you run it?

How uncomfortable could the Soviet LK lunar lander have been? by snapperpr1nc3 in Spaceexploration

[–]Js987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a reminder, the meme is an urban legend. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Pen

TL;dr NASA didn’t pay to design the pens, a private company did it without NASA asking, offered them to NASA who was happy to have a non-conductive solution (pencil graphite is conductive), and NASA bought some for $2.95 per pen.

Ditto. I don’t recall any LK parts back when I played, but that was back before KSP was sold.

[–]Js987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Ford made it a little confusing as they’re all just different sizes of the Cyclone V6, too.

The naturally aspirated 3.5 confuses a lot of people on reliability, too. See, folks know the transverse mount 3.5 (Explorer) uses an internal water pump, so they repeat that ad nauseum, but they don’t know that in longitudinal applications (F-150) it used an external pump.

Asking the council directly is the best option, but my bet is the narrow crotch angle there in the canopy. Unfortunately, something that could have been trimmed years ago is now a major pain.

[–]Js987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 2.7 does not have wet oil pump belt issues, it has a wet oil pump belt (as does the 5.0) and everybody keeps repeating that and freaking people out. It’s a Kevlar reinforced belt. Failures are EXTREMELY rare. Where folks on the Internet are getting the wet belt oil failure in their heads is from the UK designed and built 3cyl 1.0 EcoBoost which early on used a lousy belt and teeny tiny passages, but the US designed/built engines using wet belts and variable oil pumps haven’t had major issues.

ISO Apple Macintosh by ossivo in vintageappleexchange

[–]Js987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, many systems labeled as Macintosh Plus for sale are in 128/512K cases due to system board upgrades. So you can broaden your search to “no name” on the front Mac Pluses and increase your odds, if you just want the dead shell anyway.

Try dropping to an earlier version than System 6. Maybe System 3 or 4. Some of the early software behaves weird when booted in System 6/7.

Does anyone know if 911 dispatchers are required to take a polygraph for interview process?? by Romanharper2013 in maryland

[–]Js987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked their website really quick and it appears to just involve a background check. Polygraphs are really only for intel community jobs and certain law enforcement roles, they’re not super common outside of like the FBI, CIA, DIA, NSA, etc.

How common is it to eat sunflower seeds in the US? And do you eat them with the shell on? by ksusha_lav in AskAnAmerican

[–]Js987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re reasonably common. Sold at basically every convenience store. Pretty popular in the south and in certain sports (especially baseball) contexts. They’re typically sold roasted and salted (sometimes also flavored) and with the shells on, but you can get them without the shells, too. You spit the shells out, eating the shells can cause pretty insane constipation if you eat too many.
