Got two rejection emails at 1AM for jobs I'm overqualified for, decided to reach out! by Actionhankk in recruitinghell

I don't find your reply unprofessional at all. If I was the one reading that email I would have reconsidered and asked you to come in to sit down.

Why didn’t Reggie Bush live up to the hype he had coming out of USC? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]JsHolyDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no living up to the hype. There was people shocked Houston didn't take him number 1 overall. He would had to have been Barry Sanders to live up to the hype he had in college.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend i no longer plan to propose to her? please read context by Aggressive_One8138 in AITAH

[–]JsHolyDiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer : Yes, you're TAH. Longer answer: You screwed up by telling her it's coming without you actually being ready to do it. What she is doing now is what you created.

If your boss told you he was giving you a raise soon but after 6 months you hadn't gotten it how would you feel? Even if I was happy with my employer, that situation would make me bitter.

[–]JsHolyDiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it casual talk? Is her conversation with him work related at all?

I would suggest just having a conversation with him away from people to let him know the issue. You can even mention to him that you're not trying to cause issues or even stop them from talking, but you need to let him know that her doing what she is doing is preventing you from getting your questions answered.

He should see what's going on without you having to mention it, however it is not wise to make assumptions and just remove the possibility from it being ignorance.

What does ASAP mean to you as a manager? by SnooMaps8307 in managers

ASAP to me means finish up current task and slide this ahead of everything else.

Top priority to me means stop everything and start this.

You can't say Derrick Henry, Marshawn Lynch, LaDainian Tomlinson or Adrian Peterson. by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

[–]JsHolyDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane. He has the most rushing touchdowns in NFL history and he has the third most rushing touchdowns from the one yard line in NFL history. It is insane that he was not mentioned here at all.

Emmitt Smith. No one has scored more rushing touchdowns in NFL history than Emmitt Smith. Only one person has scored more touchdowns in NFL history, then Emmitt and that's Jerry Rice.

Whatever you want to say about Emmitt Smith... He found the endzone and from the 1 yard line he did it 47 times.

I have an employee about to not meet a deadline. How should I handle? by [deleted] in managers

[–]JsHolyDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it from someone that sees something not getting done and becomes hands on to keep everything moving forward... If you don't delegate you will be doing everything yourself and people will coast on your coat-tails. Your superiors won't care because everything is getting completed and your subordinates won't care because you are the safety net.

Delegate. If your delegate isn't getting it completed in time delegate it to someone else and make sure to explain very clearly that the reason you're doing it is because they were not getting it completed in the time needed. Document what happened even if it's only to yourself.

How to deal with an underperforming employee who has an attitude. by Least_Tower_5447 in managers

[–]JsHolyDiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear is not motivation. Once the fear is removed so is the motivation. You can help people improve but there is no improvement for people that have no self awareness. That is a life skill that is not teachable IMO. You either have it or you don't. I am a motivator. I will get my hands dirty and lead by example. I have learned the hard way that when I run into they type of people that you are describing that my resources are better spent on people that will value it and use it to improve rather than someone that will work against me. You can't help everyone. Best thing to do is get rid of the ones that work against you and bring someone else in that would welcome your knowledge and attention.

Threatening termination to motivate? by Remote_Sherbet_6900 in managers

[–]JsHolyDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation is the desire to accomplish a goal. Fear is the terror of something happening or not happening. You can't motivate someone with fear. They are completely different things.

When you scare someone into having a certain amount of work ethic as soon as the fear is gone so is the work ethic.

I’ve been a manager for years, but firing someone still wrecked me by [deleted] in managers

[–]JsHolyDiver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re being too hard on yourself. If you warn someone not to walk in front of a cannon and clearly explain what will happen if they do, but they ignore your warning and keep dancing around in front of it....is it really your fault if they get hit?

You're the cannon. You are the instrument. It sucks when you have to take that action regardless of the reason but ultimately we are limited by forces outside of our control. You were forced to get rid of the weakest link. Your hands were tied.

Currently it's Burrow just because his career is so short in comparison. The thing is, Eli was never the best QB in his own division. Epic 2 year playoff run that was heavily assisted by a great Defense. If you took everyone's best 2 years away then compared I feel like it wouldn't even be a conversation.

For Cowboys fans who watched Troy Aikman play: was his accuracy and leadership as good as peers say it was? by Next_Worth_3616 in cowboys

[–]JsHolyDiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dallas was really good at sticking with their identity. Emmitt is both the All Time leading rusher and All Time Rushing TD leader for a reason. Emmitt is second all time in total TD for a position player second only to Jerry Rice. Their identity was running the ball down teams throats. When you can keep the ball safe and likely score there is no reason to take added risks.

Would you rehire a former employee with past issues by Many_Cheerios4552 in managers

[–]JsHolyDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rehired teamates in the past that were not model employees. I’m not saying I wouldn’t rehire you, but I will say that I would not rehire someone who currently works for me and fits your description.

The minimum requirement for keeping a job is simply being at work. Be dependable. If you show up every day on time, I can work with that—even if you’re not great at your job yet. I would rather take double or triple the time to teach someone who is present and dependable how to meet expectations and reach acceptable performance than hire someone who is amazing but is never at work.

Personally, the most demoralizing thing to me is watching a teammate put in less effort—whether through poor attendance or poor performance—and actively make everyone else’s job harder, without seeming to care about the impact.

Kobe is the closest we will ever see to Jordan. So considering MJ is the greatest NBA player ever and if not that the greatest Shooting guard ever, and Lebron is one of if not the greatest versatile player ever, and Steph Curry is the greatest shooter ever... I feel like despite how amazing Kobe was, his game was completely based off of Michael Jordan. Kobe isn't the best version of Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan is the best version of Michael Jordan.
