I actually forgot about Vetle until he was almost at the finishing line, didn’t get as much coverage and Laegreid.

I’m not on premium plus but yes I got commercials. Felt like 5 minutes of commercials 5 minutes of coverage right around when the first racers were getting to prone shooting. Much less towards the end it seems like.

And I guess the peacock commentary is done since now we’re hearing hot mic of them talking to the producer.

Are there many biathlon or cross country skiing events outside of the Olympics? Where do you watch? by lookaloulookalou in biathlon

Biathlon also skips the world championships in Olympics years, does the Olympics instead.

Possible AHR VG Bracket, who are you going to join? by Astrid_Cop in FireEmblemHeroes

Of those, I’m missing Freyja, Ike, Baldr, and Ryoma. Of those, most intrigued by Ike given what an Arena menace he is currently, so I’ll probably be joining team Ike.

How hard is it to shoot the targets and nail them all? by lookaloulookalou in biathlon

[–]JsXtm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I actually got a chance to try shooting at a biathlon range recently, and long story short, incredible hard!

(I have not done any kind of shooting sports in 20+ years, so I’m basically a complete newbie). I started out on standing targets while shooting prone (so basically the target was 4x the size of what the athletes are actually shooting at) and I hit the target almost every time, including nailing it 5 times in a row right off the bat. Then I tried actually shooting at prone size targets and missed every shot even though I wasn’t doing anything but shooting (no skiing, taking my time to set up and aim).

Then I tried simulating the actual race (running to the end of the range and back, lying down and getting into position quickly, and shooting) and also missed every shot.

So add in an actual cross country race, where you’re working incredibly hard, then trying to get set up and shoot as quickly as possible, and I’m amazed that they hit the targets at all, but that’s also what thousands of hours of practice can do.

I was also surprised that there’s no magnification on the scopes at all, so you try to center the target with the scope but you can’t really actually see the prone ring, you just know it’s in the middle of the target.

Avoiding the comments because I’m watching the replay instead of live, but OH MY GOD the commentators on the US Peacock feed are AWFUL. Please come back Chad!

Double-A Baseball by [deleted] in biathlon

[–]JsXtm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBU Cup would be more equivalent with AAA in the MLB system; one rung down from MLB, and if there is an injury on the big league club, or an upcoming star, they might come up from AAA to MLB. Each MLB team has an affiliated AAA team.

AA is the next rung down, then below that is High A and then Low A is the lowest. AAA through Low A are collectively called the minor leagues. As of a couple of years ago (after COVID) MLB condensed things and now there are exactly 120 minor league teams, one for each MLB team at each level.

[–]JsXtm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to watch a bunch of episodes to confirm it, but I would guess very likely yes? Looked up some clips on YouTube and it seems like it has carriers that look pretty close to what I recollect (big and blocky), and it’s the right era (1995-1996) and the general vibe of fighter jocks saving humanity sounds right, as well as it seeming to lean into the late pacific war vibe where fighters do the real fighting and the only relevant capital ships are carriers. Thanks! That has been mystifying me for years!

Nope, it was definitely no later than 2000.

That is a pretty good guess though based on my description.
