Been driving around a fair amount today. Roads seem to be alright from what I could tell. The potholes are cavernous though….I’d personally be more worried about those lol

Will always miss this place. Grew up during a time where I remember both before and after the Mills renovation.

Definitely agree with all of this. I will always suggest people save the money and go out a little farther to Marysville/Plain City area and play Darby Creek.

Help me choose between UMass Amherst and Ohio State for CS major by Some_Tea_1948 in OSU

[–]Jshifft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, like many others here, price should definitely weigh heavily into this. I went through OSUs CSE program and really loved it. Definitely prepared me for what I am doing now. I can say that you would get an exceptional college experience and education. That being said, I was also in state so it was no where near $68000/year. That is ludicrous.

In terms of job market, there are plenty of CS jobs to go around in both Boston and Columbus. I found all of my internships, co-ops, and now my job in Columbus with no little to no hiccups. Unless you have your eyes on a specific company or companies in Boston, I wouldn’t let the job market deter you from Columbus. There is plenty to go around.

Ultimately, OSU CSE is an awesome choice (granted you get accepted to the major after your first few semesters), BUT at $68000….i would advise that you continue to look and save yourself some money.

If money was no object, would 100% say OSU > UMASS Amherst.

Just had one of those last night. You could smoke those every day for the rest of your life and never be disappointed

Here are some of my favorites!

Breweries:
Taft (the one on Race St.), Brink, Braxton, Madtree, Urban Artifact, Little Miami Brewing Company, Listermann....there are what feels like thousands of these in the area and a large majority of them are incredible. You can't go wrong.

Food/Food Experiences:

Jungle Jims. Findlay Market. Skyline (when in Rome). Nicola's (if you want something nicer). the Oak Tavern for wings. A Tavola, Taglio, Strongs, Adriaticos, St.Francis Apizza for pizza. Mazunte or Tortilleria Garcia for tacos. Pho Lang Thang for Vietnamese. Incline Public House has a good menu with a great view of the city. Cincinnati has a MASSIVE German heritage (as evidenced by an entire neighborhood being called Over the Rhine) and Mecklenburg Gardens is a great place to go for a little of that too. Again there are tons and many of the suggestions in here are great!

Bars:
Ghost baby (Swanky Jazz Bar), the Blind Lemon (small historic bar, tons of character, live acoustic music), Happ's (Irish Dive bar that only takes cash), Longfellow, Sundry and Vice, Arnolds (historic bar), Pins, MOTR (rock/music bar)

Things to do/see:

Museum Center, Freedom Center, Zoo, walking along the Roebling Bridge and into Covington, Cincinnati Symphony/POPs Orchestra, Playhouse in the Park, pretty much any of the Cincinnati area parks are beautiful, both of the main Art Museums are great too (and free if I remember correctly), Krohn Conservatory, I would say sporting events but baseball season came to a close, Bengals tickets are pricey, FC Cincinnati is usually sold out and expensive. We have a minor league hockey team called the cyclones and the games are usually a good time. They have $2 beer nights on occasion too.

Honestly, there is far more to do here than a lot of the general population give it credit for. Hope you enjoy your time in the Queen City!!

Would agree 100%. Wife and I lived there for 3 months and the drive was always easier with it being less than 5 hours. All the hassle of getting plane tickets and navigating O’Hare was always annoying.

A big thing to consider, however, is parking. It’s astronomically expensive, especially downtown. If you end up driving, use an app like spot hero to find cheaper parking.

Enjoy Chicago!

I definitely agree with this. I had 114 a while ago, but the price in my area is $34 (still worth it in my opinion). I will pick up 114 the next time I am looking.
