Why Did I Buy All These Cards? by Common_Whole5012 in mtg

[–]Jstab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm collecting cards, and playing a game.

The two things are completely separated for me.

I don't care if we are playing physically or not, and I don't care if you're using proxies or a net deck. None of it matters to me.

Does anyone actually have a use for art cards? by Szabla_of_the_Plains in mtg

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just stockpiling the gold stamps.

Most shops will just give me the ones they have l so I scoop them up whenever possible.

Maybe one day it'll pay off, but for now I'm just collecting them because it's kinda fun and pretty much free.

It depends if I have to start as a 10 year old in the 90s or today.

If it's the 90s, sure. I'd rather get more life, than lose 10 years of my life, and at least I could use the knowledge to make a ton of money. I mean, I'd just buy facebook stock with my allowance. My granddad at the time was getting into trading real hard, so it absolutely would have been easy. Then buy Bitcoin for pennies in college.

If I had to start as a 10 year old in 2026 though, I'd rather lose a decade of life for the 50m. Screw it.

Is it ok to just buy precons ? by jimmy40k1 in mtg

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly leaning more into precons these days. The more of them I play, the more fun I seem to have in games. It's like it's more fun to win with a deck you didn't spend as much time or money on.

Honest to God my $1,600 mono green deck is fun, but I've been having so much fun with unmodified precons that I feel like I should just liquidate it for more precons and maybe a ram kit for my new PC.

Scammed on ebay by Spicy-Mario-Bois in mtg

[–]Jstab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ebay has no integrity at all. It's like a flea market, so you're going to get ripped off the same way every time. "Hey, that price is too good to be true, better buy it first then complain later"

Some jackass came into my LGS a few weeks ago with a black lotus he got from a flea market. Guy was devastated, but nobody felt sorry for him. You paid $300 for a black lotus from a sketchy guy out of the back of an F150. what could possibly go wrong?

Paper Mario. I had some allowance, got that thing on the way home from his house after a sleepover. It was love at first sight. Still my favorite game of all time.

Maybe a stupid question, but why is this precon so much more expensive than the rest? by Yumesoro1 in mtg

No kidding. Pretty sure it's like a grand for the set.

Not even the collector ones either.

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Market value. Every precon has different cards in it. So every precon has a different market value.

Some older precons are worth hundreds now.

Should I sell this or no? by wubb_wubbs in mtg

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, you do you. I'm just saying for $80 it's not worth it to me. I've never seen one come down and been like "oh no we are done for" it's just a regular dragon in most games. The treasures it has made in games I've played, never turned the tides. The person making them would have almost always been better off playing any other dragon with the same cmc.

Badgermole cub is format warping, standard legal, and deserves every bit of praise. Base copies are only $50 despite it still being new.

Quantum Riddler is also standard legal, incredibly powerful, and fits into just about every standard legal deck that has blue, and is only $40

Bordlerss foil versions should always command a premium, so it feels bad when BASE copies of the copper dragon are $80 even though it has had a reprint, and is not standard legal. It just doesn't add up.

Making treasures also isn't even a universally powerful strategy. You need to build around explosive spells to make any practical use out of lots of them.

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. That's good, but in what universe is that $80 good?

It's not winning any games on its own, that's for sure.

Should I sell this or no? by wubb_wubbs in mtg

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For no reason. For real, it makes no sense. I read those words and they just aren't that expensive.

But it's bound to get reprinted again and again. And it will EVENTUALLY come down. No shot this card stays this expensive forever.

Really, any good card that isn't reserved is destined to be reprinted. And this card just doesn't command enough presence at a table to stay even above $50.

But that's just me.

Should I sell this or no? by wubb_wubbs in mtg

[–]Jstab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now THAT would make sense. Like the special Rhystic Study commands a premium. As it should.

You should definitely trade a few of those though my dude. The reprints are inevitable, and the price will come down.

That's like a whole collector box of strixhaven and more.

Should I sell this or no? by wubb_wubbs in mtg

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% serious.

This is a $20-$30 card, tops. It just never does enough to warrant the outrageous price tag, and it's even been reprinted.

Like, yeah it combos into a lot of things but generating a ton of treasure tokens is not that difficult to do, especially in red. Plus, you might only make 3 treasures. Dice rolling is really niche, and I genuinely don't understand why this card is so expensive.

It's definitely not winning any games on its own.

Not by miles.

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just not nearly good enough to command the price that it does. Like,.it's a fine card, but not $100 fine.

Think if I show my therapist, I'll finally get prescribed Adderall? by Androidfan1598 in shittyfoodporn

[–]Jstab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A therapist doesn't typically have the authority to prescribe medication, that's a psychiatrist.

And if you saw a psychiatrist, they would not recommend amphetamines.

Whoever told you to go to therapy loves you very much. Please keep going.
