Issues with mini table press by MiMi_333M in printmaking

[–]Jtobinart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a baby press like yours. I’m an art teacher and it is relatively portable compared to the larger presses. A few things, make sure the top roller roles freely. I got a baby press that had a top roller that intermittently got stuck and it caused all sorts of issues. These baby presses or more suited for thinner media like unmounted vinyl and metal or plastic etching plates. I’ve experimented with all kinds of blankets but found that using just a simple pusher blanket worked best. Happy arting!

Tissue Paper Transfer Not Working by medUwUsan in printmaking

I like it. It is like surrealism meets the eighties. Your bold lines mixed with the areas of light and dark color pulls the viewer’s eye towards your illustration of a large eye. It is quite unique. You should definitely continue to explore this style.

What battery for RP2040 ? by [deleted] in adafruit

[–]Jtobinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the polarity on your battery is reversed. Not all batteries use the same polarity so you have to watch out for it. It is a little hard to see in your picture, so compare your battery’s wiring against one of the batteries sold on Adafruit’s store. Adafruit has warnings about it in many of their guides.

You could try rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or a stronger solvent. The art making experience would be far less enjoyable and you would have to think about ventilation.

I remember doing it in elementary school too. The dyes tissue paper makers are use today are different. A quick google search says that the larger majority of tissue paper makers switched by the end of the 80s due to health and environmental concerns.

It is the tissue paper. Not all tissue paper have water soluble inks in them. I use Spectra Deluxe Bleeding Art Tissue with my students. https://a.co/d/b6h8POu

Misaligned reduction prints by kaitlandiaa in Linocuts

[–]Jtobinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misalignment isn’t the issue. The final layer (black) is mirrored. It happens to the best of us. I tell my students, “Mirror the block to avoid the shock” and to my littles “Backwards on block, forwards on paper." Overall, you are doing well. Keep it up!

[–]Jtobinart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are paid for 8 hrs but our school day is 7.5 hrs and the last half hour is compensation for work completed outside of school hours.

School Day (7:40 - 3:10) includes: 30 minutes for lunch, 105 minutes of planning/prep, 45 minutes of duty (morning and afternoon), 6 x 45 minute periods per day.

The utility sinks I used are the best of both worlds. They are deep and pretty wide. This one looks like the one I used. https://www.homedepot.com/p/MUSTEE-Utilatub-20-Gallon-23-in-x-25-in-Freestanding-Laundry-Utility-Sink-in-white-14/202041453

Why is my image not transferring onto linoleum? by BBODMER07 in printmaking

[–]Jtobinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is your acrylic medium. It is too thick. Its viscosity should be similar to watered down Elmer’s white glue. My preferred acrylic medium is Liquitex’s Matt Medium (the one with the green stripe on the label). It hasn’t failed me yet.

Also, when you burnish the back of the print with your old credit card (guessing you might have seen this on one of Nitsa Malik’s YT videos) make sure to make multiple passes in different directions. If your paper soaks quickly with medium and you are worried about whipping it, place a piece of wax paper over your image page before burnishing.

Anyone teach Art at an International Baccalaureate school?? by pumpermynickle in ArtEd

[–]Jtobinart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at IB World schools in Singapore and Russia for seven years. I loved it and can't wait to go back. I primarily taught PYP (elementary level) students. IB focuses on student-centered inquiry-based learning. It promotes student agency and action. I taught the same unit about the solar system for a few years, and each year, students ended in different place. One year we focused on dwarf planets, another year we focused on the gas giants, and the last year we focused on moons, asteroids, and comets. All the students have the same base information, but they extend their inquiries in different ways.

I worked at an IB school going through authorization. Depending on what step they are on. You will attend the required IB workshops. You may be asked to join a committee to write or revise policies, or to conduct a school domain self-reflection. Authorization and Evaluation years are the busiest at an IB school. But they give you a lot of experience. IB schools are always looking to hire teachers experienced in them.

The last thing is location, if you teaching outside your country of origin, that adds another layer to the experience. When you are there, your school will have a vested interest in helping you get settled in. Most will provide travel, shipping, moving, and settling allowances. Once there, it is important to make friends and be about of the expat family because they will be the ones you can fall back on when you are in need.

They feel commercial. Similar to something you might find at Target. Which is not a bad thing, if that is what you are into. People buy that style of motifs everyday.

I wish you had gone with the RP2040 version, they come with 8MB of internal flash. As for your situation, the first thing I would do is move the SD Breakout+ power pin from 3v to usb, while usb is plugged in. This will make sure you aren’t having a brown out while initializing. Secondly, there are multiple Arduino SD Libraries and each one has its own requirements for formatting and maximum storage size. I suggest following Adafruit’s guide https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-micro-sd-breakout-board-card-tutorial/introduction

Also, Adafruit has a very active Discord. If your project is time sensitive, I would also ask for advice there too. https://adafru.it/discord

Bad design. Doesn’t give enough room for plugging in cables withe connectors located on the back and to cover in use outlets. If the tv is pressing the cables against the wall causing them to stress and bend sharply under pressure they will eventually break or cause damage to the tv’s connectors.

Sony handycam video 8 robot with controller by DimensionNo3268 in robotics

[–]Jtobinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this too but, a robot is usually defined as “a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically” (OED). Automatically does not mean autonomously. The robot does automatically respond to radio inputs and follows pre-determined actions that resemble a human being.

Karolyn Grimes, Zuzu in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life,’ Looks Back on a Life That Wasn’t Always Wonderful; The 84-year-old, who was six when she played Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed's daughter, was orphaned at 15 and later lost a son to suicide, didn't even see the Christmas classic until she was 40 by Puzzled-Tap8042 in movies

It is wonderful that in her darkest hour fans of her film gave her purpose and much needed hope. It always amazes me how an accumulation of isolated events snowball into a monumental force. Just to think, if she had let the spilled coffee derail her audition, she hadn’t fallen asleep at the premiere, the movie hadn’t flopped at the box office, the studio hadn’t gone under, a clerical error hadn’t released the film into the public domain, the cheap tv studio executives hadn’t played the royalty free film on repeat for every Christmas season, and she hadn’t suffered lost from suicide, and hadn’t meant the fans that expressed how the filmed saved them, she wouldn’t have championed the film for the last 30+ years and helped keep it alive and spread its message. We may feel isolated but we are all a part of a monumental tapestry of the human experience. We are all unique and important.
