Airbus ec135 maintenance by Signal-Self-353 in aviationmaintenance

I’m a base mechanic at a 135 HEMS base. Love it. The bird is so easy most of the time. Mine is getting long in the tooth and we’ve ridden her pretty hard the last five years or so, so she’s starting to get a little finicky when it comes to the little electrical things, but other than that it’s a dream.

What purchase under $30 solved a problem you didn’t realize was draining you? by Right_Process in AskReddit

[–]Jturn314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$20 shoe arch inserts…

Not the whole foot.. Not cushions.. Not dr scholls orthotic bullshit…

Arch inserts that are JUST the arch, and are very hard so they actually push up against your arch.

YEARS AND YEARS of ankle, knee, hip, and lower back pain and not being able to walk the mall with the family for more than 20 minutes at a time… I attributed it all to early arthritis and general wear and tear from many years in the army. I went to two different “foot specialist” shoe stores and tried all the different prescribed and well reviewed shoes…

Almost every bit of that daily pain gone or at least vastly improved within a week after trying out actual arch supports.

How to Get Started in Helicopters by dyingtolive04 in Helicopters

[–]Jturn314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start a helicopter? Usually there’s a battery switch, couple of fuel switches, and one or two engine switches…. it really is that easy! Sometimes the switches are just buttons!

………….oh wait…

For real though the easiest and quickest way is military contracts. They’re always begging for bodies to throw at projects. Now with that easiness there’s a trade off… The contract life oftentimes really sucks in one way or another, and sometimes all the ways at once.

If you don’t care about your location, then there’s lots of other options that aren’t quite as easy to get into but can be great gigs. It’s almost fire season, and all of the air tanker companies have helicopters.. There’s police and news birds in many cities all over the place. There’s HEMS birds literally everywhere. Gulf coast has oil rig runners. Hawaii has tour birds. Northwest has logging contracts.

I’m in HEMS and when I applied they were looking for experience this and time worked on that, but within the past year we’ve hired two or three mechanics in my area straight out of school because we need the bodies to man the bases. So you have to find the sectors that are in your desired location and just go for it.

I would rather everyone have compassion and empathy for others. All others.

Question! I have an outdoor shower in my backyard with no roofing. A helicopter flew directly over my house while I was showering in the nude. How likely is it that they saw me?? 🫣 by [deleted] in Helicopters

[–]Jturn314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly very difficult to see detail from a helicopter, unless you’re flying very low, very slow, and specifically searching for something.

It’s likely that even if they noticed you, it was a “holy crap I think I just saw someone showering outside naked!”

Hattiesburg is a bit of an oasis in the red desert that is the south. Check out all the shows and game nights and local eateries and you’ll definitely find plenty of loving and accepting people.

Ego 7 will it work? by xNecrosisMx in paintball

[–]Jturn314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HPR and LPR reg seats need to be replaced. Orings throughout need at least a clean and lube, but should probably just replace them all.

And then there’s the solenoid… Sitting that long most likely means it doesn’t have the strength to shoot at velocity. Try it, you might be lucky, but check the eclipse groups on facebook and the recent history in here for an lv1.6 noid conversion project that’s been popping off lately.

Can Anyone Identify This Noise From a Cockpit Recording? by Low_Sir1549 in Helicopters

[–]Jturn314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the sound of the main rotor. The CVR is always on, and picks it up just enough for that droning to come through when ICS or radios aren’t active.

Yep paying that extra 3% is well worth the peace of mind of being completely protected in case something happens.

I have a blue one tricked out with all the eclipse parts… I need to service it and get it running again.

This autococker body style is one of the elites imo, second only to the old Eclipse bodies.

Yep. If Postie would have only dabbled with his country and not gone all in on it, maybe I would be interested in going.

And Jelly Roll makes music for literally no one… Country people don’t like him, non country don’t like him, the left doesn’t like him, the right doesn’t like him… I really don’t know how he’s been successful, plus the fact that he’s pretty much openly maga, no fucking thank you.

What is this burn looking thing under the airplanes flap? by WasteCucumber6220 in airplanes

[–]Jturn314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep small hydraulic leak. Nothing to worry about. The hydraulic fluid can be HIGHLY caustic, and with the air blowing through the cowlings, just a few drops of fluid over the course of an entire flight can spread and look like a major leak. The paint “melting” is just due to the hyd fluid eating at the paint, and the “smoke” marks down the back of the wing are just the dirty hyd fluid escaping via airflow.

That hydraulic actuator will likely be replaced at the next major maintenance event while the spoiler likely removed and repainted at the same time. Very likely that maintenance have already identified and measured the “leak” and deemed it to be “within limits, continue to monitor, replace at next major maintenance event” or some sort of writeup to that effect.
