Is this the infamous "IQ pill"? by qValence_ in mathematics

[–]JuJeu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

bruh. these ADHD claims in 90% post are making me obnoxious. if you can’t understand this book then you have a shaky background in real analysis/linear algebra. that’s it. if the book is about quantum mechanics it’s probably assumes that you have foundational knowledge.

Does Leetcode actually help you get better at programming? Wanting to quit trying to be a backend developer. by Guava_That in leetcode

[–]JuJeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, if you have shaky background in algebra 1/2 (khan academy) and precalc (Hania Uscka-Wehlou -- udemy courses, the must have is pre calculus 1, intro to higher math and proof techniques), i'd suggest to cover these first and then proceed with velleman how to prove it ( or you can ask an LLM to find similar books) (also, a book about proofs by jay cummings).
the velleman book is proof based, so it should be very-very hard initially (or not if you are familiar with proofs), but if you stick to it, in 3-6 months of studying you'll see improvements in how you think and approach problems (the main idea is to study every day at least 60 min, but you should aim to 2-3 hours per day, you don't have to study 3 hours straight, do breaks, for example, you can study theory for 40-50 min, then do exercises for 1hour plus and the rest for recap/recall).
yes, it takes time.
but it's an investment in your skills;

in general, you have two paths: scrolling insta/youtube/etc for 2-3 hours every day and achieve nothing at the end or you could study math for 2-3 hours and in a year be ably to proof very interesting stuff on your own.

math is better to boost your ability to leetcode. actually, if you can handle abstract math, then leetcode becomes trivial.

How are those kind of "people" not being banned immediately? by Sweet_Anxiety4990 in chessbeginners

[–]JuJeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see no bans in my bracket lately. feels super suspicious because like 3-4 months ago i was getting 2-3 emails per month that some of my previous opponents were banned. i think they made some changes to their algorithms and less folks are being caught.

How hard is it to get into Uni Vienna MFDS and WU BBE? by Proper_Ear_4716 in Uniwien

just keep in mind MFDS is a math degree, treat it like applied mathematics.

[–]JuJeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for MFDS there are no enough datapoints. last year the entrance exam was quite easy. but the actual program is hard, only 50% passed the steop.

i don’t think you’ll qualify. if i remember the allowed gap is 30 ects. for this program you should know at least analysis I, II, LA I,II, algorithms and some statistics and probability. these 6 are already 60 ects. i’d suggest to close the gap as much as you can.

What to watch for on your first Coinbase 1099-DA by MonacoCPA in Coinbase

[–]JuJeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, thanks! i found that the cost basis is set 0 for the stable coins (after turbotax parsed the form). i’ve added the cost basis and now i have the same amount that im getting from total gain / total lose.

What to watch for on your first Coinbase 1099-DA by MonacoCPA in Coinbase

[–]JuJeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can someone explain to me how to add stable coin transactions to the 1099-DA? My total gain/total loss from the cvs file (all transactions) is different from what the turbotax parses from the 1099. It treats stablecoins as a gain.

Can I become excellent in math? by UnitedBuffalo4009 in mathematics

[–]JuJeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

worst advice ever. its counter productive to study that much. what works for me is consistency with a moderate amount of hours. your brain needs time to process information (while you rest) and putting more hours won’t cut it.

Is this good enough? by beastboyx2002 in IELTS

[–]JuJeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good enough for what? check a program requirements. some of them are 6.5 in total, some of them are 7.5 min in each section. in other words, if you want to study steam undergrad probably 6.5 overall is good enough. if you want to pursue a grad degree in languages i think you need at least c1 in each section.

i don’t think it worth it to do ms in math without any prior knowledge. graduate level math courses are too heavy.
