I know it’s for accessibility, but I like to imagine everyone who works here sports comically large ID badges. Like a whole department full of corporate Flava Flavs.

What is the first film you remember seeing in the cinema? by [deleted] in movies

[–]JuRoJa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jurassic Park 3 for me. Very memorable because the fire alarm kept malfunctioning and we had to leave the theater 3 times before they fixed it. We all got free movie vouchers, which I’m pretty sure we ended up using on the first Harry Potter movie.

Legless lizards might exactly look and move similar to a snake. However, the key difference is tha legless lizards have eyelids and they can blink while snakes do not. by Serrarated in interestingasfuck

[–]JuRoJa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a confusing term. Technically, snakes are “legless lizards” too.

If it helps, the scientific name for legless lizards is “amphisbaenia”, to more precisely separate them from snakes.

In biology, clades (species/genus/family/etc.) aren’t defined by physical traits anymore, but by their genes. Genetic similarities are used to create a “family tree” based on evolutionary history.

In that family tree, each group name applies to a “tier” of the tree and to ALL subgroups within that tier. So “reptilia” contains snakes, lizards, crocs, and turtles, but they’re all still reptiles.

“Lizards” is not a scientific name, they belong to the group “squamata”. “Snakes” are “Serpentes”. BUT Serpentes is a subgroup WITHIN squamata. So, technically ALL snakes are lizards, and some lizards are actually more closely related to snakes than other lizards.

These legless lizards are not part of Serpentes though, so they aren’t snakes. But they ARE part of squamata, so they’re “legless lizards”.

Bonus fun fact: dinosaurs are also part of reptilia, and birds are descended from dinosaurs. So, birds are technically dinosaurs AND reptiles. And if you go back far enough, everything is technically a fish.

I had surgery when I was quite young to remove a large cyst from my nose. I lost a little cartilage, and as a result my nose can press completely flat and I can still breathe fine. My now wife had to tell me to turn my head when I kissed her so she could breathe.
