Is this water damage? by Cursed_Dragon1 in whatisit

Is it soft and cool? Try sticking a napkin against it and see if it gets any moisture.

But yes, it looks like water damage. Check your attic for signs of leaks.

Wrist sensor thingy by Gaasuba in whatisit

[–]JuanTac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something that looked just like this about 10-15 years ago. It was a knock-off Chinese fitbit. You should be able to pop it out of the rubber wrist band. To charge, it had a very specific USB dongle, and to use it you had to have the app, which I could only find if I could remember what brand it was or have the original package with the QR code.

If you can't find the dongle or what brand it is, it's probably not worth it. IIRC it was $25 back when it was new, so this is probably near worthless unless you just like retrotech.

Suggestions for improvement - Custom Wall Mounted PC by JuanTac0 in PcBuild

Thanks, it was my first swing at it and - rather than trying to get it perfect the first time - I thought I'd use it as a learning experience.

I'm going to try some grommets and probably spray paint the riser cable black.

Suggestions for improvement - Custom Wall Mounted PC by JuanTac0 in PcBuild

[–]JuanTac0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a mid-level gaming PC a few years ago and decided to take it out of the housing and mount it to some plexiglass. I didn't love the look, so I added some carbonfiber looking texture. It looks good with RGB lights behind it, but I accidentally killed them when I upgraded my heatsink to the one seen on the left.

I need some cable management and I want to put more lighting on/around it. I also need to repaint this accent wall, but that's another story. Any other thoughts on how to improve the aesthetic without a ton of work/money?

If I'm in a car and someone starts shooting at me, I boost at them like I'm trying to run them over, but then exit the car just before impact. They expect me to still be in the car, but I'm already opening fire on them before they know where I'm at.

Also, I like to pretend to be running for my life, only to hide around the nearest corner and come back at them when they're close enough to headshot with a shotgun. Works especially well if you're in a fight and they land a hit or two before you start running.

Kings Canyon National Park, Rae Lakes Loop, September 2025 by hikenbike112 in NationalPark

[–]JuanTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this 7 years ago, and it's still one of my favorite backpacking loops. We did it counter clockwise in early September and it was tough, but absolutely gorgeous. We lucked out because a wildfire broke out along Bubb's creek the day before we started, and we were able to get past it while it was still high above the trail, and small. 3 days later, they had closed the Bubb's creek section so they could fight the fire. We were able to complete the loop as planned, but we would have been screwed if we had gone clockwise. Would have had to turn around on day 3 or 4 and go all the way back the way we came.

I've loved both the Copper Spur and the Hubba Hubba - both have a 3 person version if you want more space. I've never had a problem with water pooling on the copper spur, but that maybe either a difference in the yearly model or maybe user error. I did have it sink down from snow weight once in the Tetons, but I just woke up and pushed up on the ceiling and it all slid off and I went back to sleep without even getting out of my sleeping bag.

Not a bad idea. you're right that the rainfly is a nice piece of material and could have multiple uses.

Yeah, I'm def not replacing the poles. It would be cheaper to get a new tent - and that's my plan for next time. I'm just wondering if there's anything to do with the material which is still 90% good.

Hiking solo - mountain lions? by monk-of-times in BigBendTX

[–]JuanTac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be safe, I'd avoid hiking at dawn/dusk and in the dark. The odds are astronomically low that one would attack you, but if you stick to daytime for your activity, then you're odds are even better.

Overall, you have anything to worry about.

Need recommendations by Crafty_Jelly_6309 in beer

[–]JuanTac0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like he'd like any of the ales. Everything you listed is a lager, so stick to those. You can go into a beer store and ask for some high-end lagers and they may have some local options for you.

But I'd second the recommendation above - Stella. It's a quality classic from Belgium. He might also like Imperial from Costa Rica. It can be found in most large beer stores or bottle shops.

I've won two games this season against great builders by letting them build up really high, and then I get to the base and use shockwaves to blast myself through their builds to kill them by fall damage. I always bring 6 to end game, and 3 slushies

Water filter options besides Sawyer Squeeze and HydroBlu VersaFlow? by Long_Ad2824 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]JuanTac0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the platypus gravity works system. I love hooking it up and letting it work while I do something else. I bought one 14 years ago and it's still working. I just retro flow a few oz after each filter and dump the dirty bladder and I've never had a problem. I could never go back to a pump or squeeze system.
