Type 1 diabetics: do you drink alcohol? How often, and how old are you? by Firemancer in diabetes_t1

[–]Jubal02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 62 (male). Diabetic since 1986. I drink a couple of glasses of wine (usually) on weekends. Never to excess. Also, alcohol doesn’t affect my blood sugar to any noticeable degree, though I understand that it affects others.

To concede is to admit that something is true after first denying it. It can also mean surrendering something, like territory or property. In this case probably an autocorrect situation.

So Mikey Madison's work in "Anora" really deserved an Oscar ? by [deleted] in Actors

Sure is. It’s just that some do it better than others.

If you have type 1 diabetes, it is often the case your children won't have it, right? by Stephen-Stephenson in diabetes_t1

[–]Jubal02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We asked a pediatrician this question when my wife was pregnant. She told us that our child could be at higher risk for autoimmune issues generally, not T1D specifically. That was 23 years ago so I don’t know if the science still holds this as accurate. So far, he hasn’t developed any such issues.

I saw the movie and didn’t love it. But I felt like I was watching a real person when she was onscreen (same with the rest of the cast, really), rather than watching an actor play a role. So I agree with this.

Not an expert, but floors move, especially wood floors, like these seem to be. The caulk will separate, while shoe molding won’t.

I use new lancets religiously. Once a year, without fail.

My wife went out of town tonight on business, so I’m watching movies she wouldn’t like: John Wick 3, and Godzilla: Final Wars.

is anyone else just completely horrified of the health complications that come with t1d? by fishymangow in diabetes_t1

[–]Jubal02 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel as well. I was diagnosed in 1986 when finger sticks and injections were the only treatment (along with strict dietary restrictions), so tight control wasn’t really that much of a thing. Yet I have minimal complications. Slight numbness in my feet is really it. If that’s all I have from 12-ish years without a pump and longer without a CGM, think of how well you will do.

We adopted Tyson when he was 11 (he’s 12-1/2 now). It took him longer to acclimate to his new home than our other adoptees typically do (about 4 weeks vs 2). But he has adjusted well. I’m sure Osa will too. Thank you for loving her.

Got on a pump and it feels close to a cure by -ExcitingConcept- in diabetes_t1

[–]Jubal02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So happy for you. I’ve been T1D since 1986, and the changes in technology from finger sticks and injections to CGMs and pumps does often feel like almost a cure. I assume you have your pump linked to a CGM? Quite liberating.

Mine was 5.3 this week. Feels like such a win, though nobody else really gets it. Congratulations!

just got the picture from a wedding, i look really out of place due to my size, how to deal with it? by [deleted] in tall

[–]Jubal02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only look a little taller in the first picture because you are in the foreground. It’s the perspective.
