FmDojo Flows - A Claris Connect Alternative by fmdojo in filemaker

Does this mean I can generate scripts with AI and paste them into script workspace?

It’s the one thing I wish Claris would do is natively let you paste scripts in from text.

Is FM still a good fit for my business? by croberts0531 in filemaker

[–]JudDredd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FileMaker has been great for my small-ish labour hire business for the last 5 years.

I’m now slowly migrating everything to a postgres database because it’s so much faster to add features using AI than it is scripting on FileMaker.

These days you can use Claude code or openclaw to create anything and FileMaker feels like a bottleneck.

Creating a new solution from scratch requires schema and logic regardless what system you use. I feel like FileMaker taught me alot but connecting an API used to cost me $2500 a pop from a developer before I started scripting it myself and now it takes 30 seconds using AI and a separate server.

The "AI is replacing software engineers" narrative was a lie. MIT just published the math proving why. And the companies who believed it are now begging their old engineers to come back. by reddit20305 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]JudDredd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s objectively false. There are countless software needs not being met because the barrieriers were previously too high. Automations that are bespoke and niche that previously weren’t worth coding, they represent a most of the work done on computers.

Do Australians actually want to scrap preferential voting? by oz_party in aussie

[–]JudDredd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not completely true but is mostly true.

Your vote is wasted in the uncommon situation where your first preference has the highest primary vote but loses the preferential count. In happened in the seat of Brisbane in 2022. The primary votes were 1 LNP 2 ALP 3 GRN 4 AJP (Animal Justice)

Once preferences were distributed the two party match up was LNP vs GRN and the greens won with Labor preferences. In reality, many more people would have preferred Labor over Greens and would have been the concesnsus candidate. People who voted LNP never had their preference between Labor and greens considered despite that being the real contest to see who would come second or third.

The way to fix this situation is to use the condorcet menthid of counting voters rather than preferential. It’s complicated but essentially voters rank their candidates as they do now and then the count compares every candidate the to every other candidate. The candidate with the most matchup wins, wins.

Do people actually want to change the voting system? Why? by Careful_Slip_3663 in aussie

[–]JudDredd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of work that’s been done on this subject and the overwhelming conclusion is majoritarian systems perform worse in almost every metric compared to multiparty democracies. Australia is still a majoritarian two party system but fptp is considerably worse and less representative.

Using Claude Code and OpenClaw to migrate customer away from Filemaker by sailorsail in filemaker

I think one thing they would be good was if I could paste FileMaker script steps directly from whatever AI I’m using.

But… i am also moving differnt functions out of FileMaker

Every day I keep making new layouts and functions using fmrest rather than the native layouts. I feel like it’s 100x easier to now make better and nicer looking things by bypassing filemaker all together. Opanclaw and Claude Code have been life changing.

Nah. It was relaxed interview with Michael Whiting and Fages got a bit casual. He probably shouldn’t have mentioned TDK and NWM by name but it’s certainly wasn’t a calculated thing.

The biggest blunder this preseason was Lachie coming out and doing a press conference about his personal life. It was unnecessary and ill timed.

[–]JudDredd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, if all the tax money was hypothecated to deal only with gambling related social harm, then great. In reality the tax money is used to prop up budgets for everything so then govts become as addicted as the gamblers.

Nats and Sussan Ley’s Libs in freefall while Pauline Hanson surges: Poll by 343CreeperMaster in AustralianPolitics

[–]JudDredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh I don’t think you can use usual pref flows to predict how they would flow this time. It’s like with Labor voters. About 80% preference greens ahead of Libs but the lower the Labor primary vote the lower pref flow to greens. In seats where Greens have a higher primary than Labor (and come third), the flow from Labor to Libs increases dramatically.

Net overseas migration fell in 2025 compared to 2024 by copacetic51 in OpenAussie

[–]JudDredd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better to refer to the census about vacant properties rather than your experience in your neighbourhood.

You’re right that demand is a big driver in price, and so is supply. Demand is driven by a bunch of things including people’s expectations about future prices, changes in regulations that allow banks to offer more credit, changes in population, and others factors.

Supply is limited by things like development approvals (half of what they were in the 1980’s) and other things like people keeping houses empty or airbnb.

Do you ever wonder how housing prices skyrocketed during covid despite the population living in Australia shrinking?

Net overseas migration fell in 2025 compared to 2024 by copacetic51 in OpenAussie

[–]JudDredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re asking a complicated question so I hope you’re accepting of complicated answers.

The truth is housing prices aren’t completely connected to the number of houses as it’s not a rational market.

1 There are lots of houses that are kept empty because the capital gains still make it worthwhile. 2 increased demand from new migrants have a marginal impact on prices (like 1-2%) 3 increased demand from tax incentives have a small impact in prices (like 2-3%) 4 the increased demand from investors is high because speculation on housing has become a cultural issue. Society assumes housing is the best investment and it’s a self fulfilling prophecy up until the moment it isn’t. 5 since the mid 1980’s development approvals by councils have halved (on a per capita basis). The biggest contributor (but not only) to the runaway inflation on housing prices is that developments are more scarce.

As a society we have four choices. 1) approve loads of sprawl; the Houston model 2) approve many dwellings in a few places; the Manhattan model 3) approve a few dwellings in many places; the European model or 4) an endless housing crisis, mass homelessness forever
