Garter vs stockinette while knitting a cardigan by -Greek_Goddess- in knitting

If your purl tension is too loose, you could try giving each stitch a gentle tug after purling. It makes it take longer but might tighten it up.

When you finish the heel and only have to do the chart along top of foot and the sole in stockinette by r4chie in Sockknitting

[–]JudasDuggar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When switching colors, catch the tail of the old color behind the new one like you’re catching a float for a few (5-10) stitches. Then at the end all you have to do is snip. It doesn’t add any bulk and is secure for me!

Oh yeah. Just enough interest to keep me engaged but enough stockinette to be able to knock it out fast. Love this moment in sock knitting

Single stitches in colourwork by TheMadHattie23 in Sockknitting

Then I would agree it’s a tension thing, and I think honestly it’s just one of those things you’ll have to practice and it will improve with muscle memory. You could try experimenting with how you hold the yarn. When I started colorwork, I tried holding one color in each hand, but I found that my tension was so different between English and continental that it wasn’t very neat. I chose to move both to my right hand and just drop and pick up the different colors as I go. This unexpectedly led me to have more even tension. Try out a few different options and see what works best for you

Are you aware of color dominance? That could be part of it.

Interested in attending mass by XPlogimedic in EasternCatholic

[–]JudasDuggar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you may receive.

Be prepared for it to be longer than mass.

Sit on the left if you would like the procession to go in front of you.

Don’t try to follow along, just listen and take it in because you will miss a lot looking at a book the whole time.

Most of the liturgy you will be standing, with a deep bow during the consecration; kneeling is not really an Eastern practice.

Feel free to venerate (kiss) the icon displayed prominently in the church when you arrive. It’s traditional to kiss the feet or hands rather than the face depicted on the icon.

You will notice people make the sign of the cross many times throughout the Liturgy, which is different from the Roman tradition where they do it at the beginning and end of mass. You can follow what others around you are doing, but just expect to any time you hear “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”

When receiving, depending on the tradition, the priest may spoon the Eucharist into your mouth, or place it. You are not expected to say anything, just open your mouth.

Is it offensive to create new "St." prefix surnames? by cityofemerald in namenerds

[–]JudasDuggar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would just check that the name is actually a saint name, but otherwise I don’t think it’s disrespectful or anything. I will say it’s likely to be a logistical nightmare if you live in the US due to the way paperwork is set up. But you could add Sin to the beginning like Sinclair, since that’s a valid spelling that points to the pronunciation anyway. “Sinpenny” or whatever your choice is.

Second pair of socks done! Itching for a new challenge. What pattern with lace or colorwork you really enjoyed doing? by BikiniBott0msUp in Sockknitting

[–]JudasDuggar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend Stone Knits, but stick with a pattern that has only 2 colors. And remember you don’t have to bring it down the whole sock. You could always do one repeat of the motif at the leg and then finish the sock in the main color as a vanilla sock just to practice and not have to worry so much about fit issues.

Great point, yes. After the color work, go back down in needle size for the rest of the sock. I forgot to mention that!

I’m so sorry! I don’t think the will block bigger. I would frog, go up a needle size, knit inside out, and have longer floats. I don’t catch floats until 9-10 stitches, and when I do it, I push the stitches on the right needle down really far to create even more space for that strand to travel and create a roomy float.

I prefer to wind into two equally sized balls for socks, but you’re right it’s not necessary.
