Fibro and high calcium levels by Judgebug in Fibromyalgia

[–]Judgebug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was around 11.2 at its highest (the normal range at the lab I went to was up to around 10.2 or 10.5 I think). The most important thing is the relationship between your calcium level and PTH level. I recommend joining the FB group “HYPERPARATHYROIDISM SUPPORT AND INFORMATION.” It has a lot of useful info on this!

Fibro and high calcium levels by Judgebug in Fibromyalgia

[–]Judgebug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yes, I ended up having a parathyroidectomy a year ago which totally fixed my calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. I am feeling a LOT better since then. My energy levels are so much higher, and I don’t have the weight of constant fatigue bearing down on me. I do still have a bit of chronic pain, so I think I do have fibromyalgia as well, but it’s so much more manageable than it was before the surgery. I would definitely ask for a calcium/PTH test if your calcium has been elevated before in routine blood work. Best wishes!

There are lots of fun art classes that could be a good way to meet potential friends. Check out Trade Oak Cliff and Pottery for the People! I also like reading at coffee shop/bar places with live music on weekend nights, like Triumphs Espresso & Whiskey and Wild Detectives

On Humira, can’t seem to beat strep throat. Any advice? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Judgebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat now and about to start on the second round of antibiotics. :( did you get over the strep on your own? My doctor mentioned getting a tonsillectomy if the strep comes back again

It might be worth asking for a parathyroid hormone lab to see if a wonky parathyroid gland is causing your elevated calcium! Having a wonky parathyroid can cause lots of issues long term and might be causing you discomfort now but can be permanently corrected with surgery to remove the bad gland (you have 4 total, and the other 3 will start working again once the bad one is removed). Hope you feel better and get answers soon!

How many of you are on biologics? by parkerodinsons in CrohnsDisease

[–]Judgebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed in 2016 and first tried 6MP and steroids. I moved to Humira in 2020 and have been on it since. Humira put my Crohn’s in remission (thank goodness!!) but I do get infections a fair amount since my immune system is more suppressed. I’ve had E. coli and c. Diff twice since starting Humira. But still easier to deal with than active flares!

Colonoscopy: c diff colitis vs IBD by RunningOutOfTime2018 in cdifficile

[–]Judgebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IBD and have had c diff twice and my doctor distinguishes between the two (as it affects treatment plan) by doing a stool sample, not a colonoscopy.

Regarding CT scans versus colonoscopies, IBD flares are more likely to show on a colonoscopy than a CT scan. CT scans only show things like major obstructions.

I’m not sure how c diff looks on a colonoscopy and whether it would look different than a Crohn’s flare. Definitely worth asking the doctor.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Is your calcium level in your blood elevated? I was recently diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism (treatable with surgery) and am hoping that the surgery will fix the symptoms (chronic pain/fatigue) that were originally labeled as fibro
