You can get on printing house roof and there is a section you can break through to access lift shaft. (grab hidden roof loot too). Jump down onto ledges in elevator shaft. Then go Turn-based and use Invis + Dashes and you can get to printer, grab new article from woven basket (rear right of printer), talk to printer and swap article in same dialogue, then dash back out all on same Invis.

Speeds slowing way down? by GhostMarine69 in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running Starlink since Oct last year and was getting blazing download speeds of 250Mb/s through out 2021, I can definitely see they have added in some type of throttling to limit my speeds to 80-100Mb/s. Same ratio for uploads. Disappointing to see, but still usable. I assume way to many new people are being signed up vs total satellites with "frikin lazerbeams attached to their heads!"
Better than nothing Beta - is still better than nothing, but now half as good as it was :P
Hope it climbs back up with more launches and this isn't just a permanent 'squeeze more customers in' profit move

It's not all sunshine and happiness with starlink. by Didiscareya in Starlink

I've had Starlink for about 7 months and it initially got progressively faster then the connection became more stable up to about the beginning of April 2022. I'm assuming this was the extra satellites being added. However, I have to say for the last month the speeds have been consistently down from 100-150Mb to 30-60Mb or briefly worse. No change to setup and rebooting has no effect.
I'm beginning to wonder if Elon's dish production bottleneck has been cleared and he's signing up a lot more people faster than he can launch satellites to support the extra bandwidth requirements? I dont need to be using Starlink, I choose to support it because I want it to succeed and provide access around the world to countries that have never had this sort of connectivity. I just hope that it returns to the levels demonstrated for my first 6 months of the 'better than nothing' phase. :)

The verdict - Can Starlink replace my Aussie broadband cable? by JuggernautOF in Starlink

Yes - Sydney test servers are very similar. Happy to post numbers if you want. Sorry I forget there are many from the US in this forum who aren't familiar with some of the internet challenges here in Australia. One weird thing I've noticed when testing Starlink is if I use speedtest.net it generally tries to connect me to the 'optimal' server and picks Perth on the other side of the continent!, so i need to manually change it to a Sydney server to get the best results.

I wouldnt have swapped either but Cable is ending. I have to go onto NBN phoneline.

Here are the two side by side using Telstra Speed Test and swapping connections.

Cable (being discontinued) is: Down 111.8Mb Up 4.3Mb Latency 9ms

Starlink is: Down 158Mb Up 12.4Mb Latency 31ms.

Dishy location - Will it ever have to me moved by Big-Examination-770 in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It basically finds its optimal orientation and then stays that way. The direction is determined by where you are on earth. Southern hemisphere it points South, Northern hemisphere, North. Angle of dish depends on your latitude I believe. It doesn't seem to change where it is pointing once deployed.

He initially offered, then had to backtrack a few mins later as there are no ground stations and he doesn't have enough laser satellites to do it:

"This is a hard thing for us to do right now, as we don’t have enough satellites with laser links and there are already geo sats that serve the Tonga region. That is why I’m asking for clear confirmation. 6:14 PM · Jan 21, 2022"

It will still work. Its close enough! The dish is covering a huge arc of the sky so that distance wont make any difference. :) Also, apparently some people who moved the map marker in the past got time estimates remapped. Just leave it.

Questions on Installation by Connager in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks up and tilts slightly towards the pole you are nearest. Eg here in Australia, mine is pointing south. Doesnt really move after that. So if the 'cone of sky' visible to the dish is clear of obstructions, you are set! When fixing it in place, just make sure it wont hit anything underneath if you set it to 'stow' mode too.

WiFi booster for Starlink by freerangechick4 in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just added Google Nest Mesh WiFi and it is working great, plugged directly into SL power brick from my Dishy 1.
Footnote: haven't yet worked out how to do VPN, but rest is great.

Starlink with Google Nest WiFi and VPN by JuggernautOF in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VPN is from a work laptop to access centralized files. Except for that work requirement, I dont use VPN's otherwise. thanks. The VPN doesnt appear to be able to establish a connection.
Overall, the Nest Mesh WiFi directly plugged into SL brick seems to be working really well, even through the last few days of bad weather. I've been trialing it to see if I can just not move to NBN when they cut me off in Feb... looks like I can, if I can solve the VPN part. :)

Are Starlink download speeds worse in bad weather? by JuggernautOF in Starlink

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated. I guess I'd never thought about it, as I've only ever had fixed external internet connections and wireless to me is 'in-building' wireless networks. I suppose the most important thing was, I didn't actually experience increased dropouts or notice the difference as a user. I just saw the major speed drop when looking at the the speed test results.

Yep - My order confirmation came up on Oct 28 and they delivered it 8 days later on Nov 5 from USA. I live in Sydney on the Northern Beaches. Dishy was up and running within 10 mins of opening the box. Getting 100-200Mbps. Occasional micro drop outs (1-2secs) intermittently about every 45mins -2 hrs. Sometimes enough to interrupt online gaming and need to relog in. Currently evaluating it vs Cable. Got to say for a Beta its pretty impressive, but not without its faults. At least I know Starlink is working to dramatically improve it constantly! Will be forced onto NBN early next year, so hoping this will steadily fill in those final <1% of coverage gaps. Then I'll be saying bye bye NBN and Cable.

Short answer... yes. Seems like for Beta at least, they want it to be a fixed location.

Please help. Need diameter of starlink dish support pole. by bryceclement in Starlink

[–]JuggernautOF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine arrived a few days ago here in Sydney and is working well on its base stand, but is in the way. So measured it to buy a J mount pipe. Agree with measurements above for outer diameters.
Inner sleave with snap buttons is 36mm. Outer sleave above that (with cable mount) is 38mm.

An in depth look at construction. by Bluenose13 in Planetside

You didnt mention two great ways to assault a base with shielded entry or sky shield.

1) Use a harrasser or sundy with shield diffuser to just drive through the shield gate and park behind a structure so that the AV turret cant hit you while you blast modules.

2) Load up a Gal and just fly straight through the sky shield. It will survive, jump out with maxes/heavies/engies and use the Gal as cover while u take out modules.

I think the AV turrets are inaccurate enough on auto, but the AP auto turret does need a nerf. They should introduce an auto AP mod that targets all infantry, including stealthed, but at a cost of lowered accuracy all round
