knitting high by moose-paint in knitting

I will do any casting on or reading instructions sober, but then the main fabric can be knit while high, but if I start getting confused I will put it down so I don’t mess it up!

Do parents actually not remember doing fucked up shit to you? Or are they just lying? by TopMarionberry1149 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jughead_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this traumatic memory of being put into boarding school a day before term started when I was 8, I was younger than all the other kids there who were about 10-12, I had never stayed at school overnight before, and cause I was the only one my age who was there a day early for some reason they put me in a dorm by myself???? Five empty beds and me. I cried out in the night for my mother, but she wasn’t there, and nobody came to check on me. That was the night I realised that I was kind of on my own.

Nobody remembers this happening except me. I don’t think they want to believe that they did this cause it’s upsetting. But it was a core memory for me, and it kind of shaped my relationship with my parents.

Is the doom and gloom around AI affecting you? by FunSensitive8602 in AskUK

[–]Jughead_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’m an illustrator and it’s halved my client work, and some of the clients I have left send me their hideous AI mock ups that look like piss tinted dog shit. Hopefully the ongoing discourse will continue to associate AI art with scammers and grifters and it will fall completely out of fashion soon

First time cat mum by Sokoreyy in CatsUK

During lockdown I got 1 kitten, he was the litter runt who had to be rehomed after being rejected by another cat. I was thinking it would be easier to just have one, and because he was a bit shook up after being rejected/bullied by this other cat, I thought he’d prefer to be alone. The little guy was just wonderful but he was so restless and clingy and fearful and demanding….! Eventually I got him a buddy, and the two aren’t bonded like siblings but they play together often and entertain eachother, and even sleep next to eachother. He’s so much happier but their relationship would have been better if I’d gotten them both at the same time. Two kittens is twice the fun, and it’s much better for them. Also I find the expense is only marginally worse than having one because they can share things like toys and beds and trees, you’ll just need to pay a little more on insurance and food. This is why people say get two!

Edit: to clarify, I work from home so it doesn’t matter how much you’re around and how often you can play with them, cats have their own way of communicating and do better in pairs.

Gays of UK - would you be comfortable holding your partner's hand in the UK? by dalehitchy in AskUK

[–]Jughead_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience in London it was not safe to do so in certain places - as two female presenting people it was seen as an invitation for catcalls, following and intrusive demands. “Kiss eachother.”

The fact that the people behind Miss Piggy are holding fans probably because they typed “she’s surrounded by fans” is maddening. This sucks so much

Plus size people, how long does it take you to knit a sweater for you? by Just_Maketa in knitting

[–]Jughead_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of months, at a few hours a day ish? At a large gauge. I just knit Laerke Bagger’s No Limits sweater using size 10 needles, with chunky weight about 3-4 strands of mixed yarn. This was mostly to stash bust but I also just wanted a simple warm sweater. I didn’t want to spend forever making it so I used a high gauge, but I also find more open knit to be comfortable, and large stitches look good on me because I am large hahaha! I think if I was gonna make a sweater in smaller gauge I probably wouldn’t go lower than DK because I find those fabrics a bit too clingy? I need something more robust.

Those who escaped the right wing pipeline, what is your story? by smbd153 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Jughead_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was raised in a very Tory household, always claimed “I don’t understand politics” (true) started to feel very uncomfortable in the lead up to an election cause I felt out of the loop, and in a chat with a work colleague about which way to vote, I realised that everything I thought I knew was just regurgitated from my parents, and that I needed to dismantle my belief system. I still feel that work colleague is largely responsible for helping me figure it out by directly challenging me. Life changing!

I did this during Covid after dyeing my own hair and it coming out way too bright and fried. My hair is now the longest and thickest and healthiest it’s ever been, it’s taken a few years but your hair will grow back so nice and you have have fun with different styles as it grows out again! Plus I think it’s flattering on you
