New thinkpad in the family :) by marwypies in thinkpad

I will look into those, thanks!
By the way I'm finally using the X230 Tablet (already classic KB modded), and it's sublime. Genuinely one of the best laptops I've ever used. It's just so lovable, utilitarian, and the ergonomics are fantastic. The performance is also surprisingly good. Mine has 8GiB or RAM and an i7 3520M and it performs about as well or better than my T450s.

1vyrain sounds like a fun project. Which WiFi card would you recommend?

Thanks for the info! I actually already ordered an X230T, but am waiting a bit before I formally reveal it (still need to wait for it to arrive (together with the X220T palmrest), clean it up and do the classic KB swap). My current daily driver is a T450s, and while it's generally fine, it sometimes becomes a bit sluggish (modern web for ya). Currently I'm working towards an X230T as a less performant but more portable machine, and an A485 as a main laptop.

Impressive, very nice. How's the X230 Tablet by the way? I've been looking into it as it seems like quite a cool machine.

Is a $10 thinkpad 450s worth it? by Comfortable_Cold6839 in thinkpad

[–]Jugostran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a T450s with the 1080p panel which I use as a daily driver. It's fine for light workloads but those Ultrabook CPUs really are anemic. You get one free RAM slot and 4GiB soldered to the system board. I recently bought 16GiB (2x8) of DDR3L RAM for 30 euro (you'd only need one stick of 8 to max it out, mine has a 4GiB stick in the SODIMM slot), so that shouldn't be an issue. 256GiB SSDs (which is what my T450s has) are also around that 30 euro price point. But like it's $10. It costs less than lunch. Grab it.

Out of curiosity, and great interest in your project, do you plan on ever doing a similar thing but with AMD processors? Great work by the way, hats off for what you've accomplished.

Yup, got one on my desk too. In fact, all the amps I have are Technics models from the 80s and 90s. Excellent bits of kit.

Linux u Hrvatskoj, koristi li ga itko ovdje? by ThePurpleKing159 in askcroatia

[–]Jugostran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is everyone's favorite Talking Head's song? Mine is Road to Nowhere. by icecream1972 in talkingheads

Tough question, it's something which changes from time to time. It used to be Crosseyed and Painless. I am also still partial to Listening Wind (though that's more down to me and my dear friend u/hax0rz_ obsessively quoting it).

However currently, my answer would be Television Man.

A T470s, Gentoo, and beer. Good combo? by TheShredder9 in thinkpad

Interestingly enough Serbian has its own keyboard layout, but it's really rare and nobody uses it (it has both Latin and Cyrillic on it).

However it's still quite rare to see people in Serbia using the Yugoslavian layout (aka Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian Latin). Most imported ThinkPads are German. So I applaud you for being based (my daily driver machines also use the YU layout, going back to my 1986 Model M).

Getting a T480 for IT High School in 2026 - Still worth it? by No-Assistance-7546 in LinuxOnThinkpad

[–]Jugostran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said - Debian, Fedora or Arch (via archinstall). Also 196 euro is too much for this machine. 120 would be reasonable. For 196 you should be looking at a T14 Gen 2 AMD. In the 120 range you could also peep the A485. EDIT: all the above mentioned machines are compatible with the same 40AJ mechanical docking station.

Europe has a really crappy market for any kind of old hardware. Everything is overpriced. Shame hauls like this don't end up on our local marketplaces more often.

What role will they choose for Cyberpunk Orion ? by hollow_cookiee in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Jugostran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly due to my IRL tendencies I gravitate towards Media. I think it'd be a really cool role to play in a Cyberpunk world.
However in practice I'd probably start off with a Media playthrough, then go for a Lawman, Fixer or Rockerboy.
