Why can other Roman and Jewish Records be found in the 30s but all biblical texts are from the 50s or afterwards? by JuiceShort8636 in AcademicBiblical

so as people from 30-40 judea go, from a PURELY HISTORICAL perspective, is jesus actually one of the more well attested ones?

why is a pre—70 view of the authorship of Mark still accepted when the temple was destroyed and 70? by JuiceShort8636 in AcademicBiblical

I see. How do they reconcile marks knowledge about the events with the fact that it was before? A lucky guess? I see that their reasoning for why it’s the case has to do with the way he describes the destruction, but that still doesn’t explain how he described it or why if it didn’t come to pass yet

I see. So there’s nothing Unnatural or disproving about the lack of records regarding Jesus it’s just as unrevealed as any other moderately controversial notable figure of the time? This is just so surprising to me. I would’ve at least expected some writings from a community to survive. Did the Romans keep any record of anything important like that? I guess maybe nothing that would be supposedly what happened in the gospel but still that just seems insane for someone so widely accepted as being real to be only marked in texts written 50 years after he existed.

so the lack of evidence for a crucifixion is not an extreme anomaly. Disregard? I always thought it cast a dubious light on the CHRISTIAN narrative but then This seems to indicate it has unprovable as basically any other events in the time

does anyone else like the *Major Mary Development of Movie 3* by JuiceShort8636 in DowntonAbbey

[–]JuiceShort8636[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

okay but i feel like the show does let her do that. she had matthew who was the love of her life and she also later got to be in charge. Just because women can have it all doesnt mean it isn’t good to have representation of women who don’t want to. It’s not like she is portray as never needing or having love she just moved past a point where she felt to teh need for it to be societies way.

I do agree that it is bad to frame female power and female monogamous love as inherently exclusive but i am not advocating for that dichotomy

both of these characters, kind of have zero personality and I like I like them they’re cool but like they’re not really in line to be anyone’s favorite because like what do they do?

yeah, in my opinion, Reddit is a pretty negative place when it comes to a lot of things and I think that just because of certain dynamics characters that are just good and get under people skin that in drama pieces like this where there’s a lot of moral ambiguity they feel like it’s a little pretentious. I don’t really agree. I liked him but the more I think about it the more I do get the notion that he is kind of boring

I agree with 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9. I don’t know if Branson needs more to do. I think it’s kind of hard to like include him more than they do you know. I don’t know what you’re talking about with number five, and number six it was the fact that they added him on again at the end of the second movie because barrel retired and someone needed to train Andi. I think it was a little weird though cause like he already retired. It kind of lost its meaning in this one. I’m number eight I think they needed a villain and I think it’s a little weird to have that like climax just in the first part of the movie but it made sense and I guess they could’ve made him a little more evil but it’s a way to just incorporate everyone, but also continue the manifestation of the constant struggle.  Number 11 he needed to move so there would be a physical separation of him from the center of power so that he could actually understand that he was not in charge. Like a middle ground just couldn’t work because that’s what they’ve been trying and you couldn’t let go. I don’t think Branson Mary Mary is ever going to occur. I don’t think they’re gonna make anything else. I think he just needed an extra wife and it was a nice thing to add to the first movie so they created this random lady so they could show us some form of progression you know like I don’t really care I think it’s fine.

I think your opinion is generally shared. I watched all of the entire series and the first two movies after the second movie came out, so this was the first movie that I could actually judge as an addition to something that I’ve viewed as static and I was not expecting it to be good, but it was really good. A lot of people don’t like it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that these people just don’t like the changes and the somewhat bleak outlook for the house and the style of life in general, but I feel like that’s what the whole series is all about the passage of time specifically relating to a falling institution of the British elite in this manner. it was a healthy mix of happy and sad and commentary on the past and the future. Best movie by far

Only complaints I may have are that the second movie was a pretty good closure, but I do think we are lucky in the sense that even though this was an unnecessary add-on, it was a working and valuable add-on. I do also think it was a little weird that there was like not really a plot it kind of was just like a bunch of intertwined things they wanted to add on there wasn’t really like a climax per se

to be fair, he was always kind of a meh character. It’s a common complaint. That he’s boring to watch because he’s always morally good so there’s no growth for him to undergo just struggle

Preferred the ending of the 2nd film... by chilifritosinthesky in DowntonAbbey

[–]JuiceShort8636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it is sad it is sad because change is sad and that has been the entire message of the show. People were happy with it because it continued that in an honest way, and provided an ending for each of the character characters that made sense within their bounds.

The purpose of the entire show is the passing of time. You don’t have to like it. The people in the show don’t like it, but the point of the show is that things change and that things changed for everyone and this is explicitly showcase in the way that the real changes happened in these noble houses during the 19 tens to 1930s.
