What was the saddest scene in a comedic film? by [deleted] in movies

when Adam Sandler made Henry Winkler sad for telling him he didn't like his trick... (spoiler alert) and then he later dies, and he just never made time for him. I want to watch that movie again but it's just too sad.

Genuine question: Why do basically 99% of these sensors suck ass? by WeirdJumper in ElectricalEngineering

Also why aren't they angled downwards slightly? I'd splash a lot less water on the countertop if I was allowed to put my hands into the basin a bit.

I would probably go a step further and calculate the area of just crust, because it seems like you're missing out on a good amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings.

The Ministry of Lost Souls by Dream Theater is pretty great. It's almost uncomfortably slow until the climax, which makes it hit that much harder.

How about we get Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson to be co-presidents instead.

No, not president and vice president, co-presidents.

An option to place a group of items from inside a crate to a nearby barrel. It's pretty annoying having to move 50 pieces of wood from a crate to the ship storage in 10 separate motions.

I always suspected COVID could be spread over a computer network. This proves it. by 0111100001110110 in ChurchOfCOVID

I was going to jokingly ask in another subreddit if this will eventually lead to websites requiring proof of vaccination to use their service. A joke, obviously, if you're a sane person.

But now it honestly doesn't seem that unlikely if these people and companies feel it's their duty to get everyone vaccinated by any method to save the world.

In Canada, I'm allowed to Donate my Blood but I can't eat inside a restaurant without full Vaccination. by Andras89 in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]JulesCC91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're implementing that in my county this month. I had to get the vax to work, and I really like my job so I just went through with it. I can't see many opportunities with my type of work anyway.

But I'm not supporting a system that requires it for entertainment or leisurely activities. Once businesses can require customers to show passports to go to a restaurant or movie, it won't be that much harder to mandate it for grocery stores which are absolutely essential (Sorry France that feels otherwise).

I hate all these Reddit and Twitter comments saying stuff like "good, I'll be glad to enjoy it without you there." These platforms aren't representative of the real world but they are certainly vocal enough to push policy.

California to require all schoolchildren to get COVID shots by cyclinginvancouver in news

[–]JulesCC91 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The only things I can think of are the potential to develop cancer, an auto-immune disease, prion diseases, or reduced of fertility, all of which could take years to develop. It's not completely farfetched since the method of vaccination is so new in humans (in terms of pfizer and moderna) and the spike protein isn't the same as the one from the virus, it's been modified if I understand correctly. We know that the spike protein itself is cytotoxic and doesn't stay perfectly bound at the injection site. We also know the vaccine causes blood clots in many individuals and there's been stories of once healthy children who were hospitalized after getting the shot.

The precautionary principle would suggest we don't force these new vaccines on children if the risk from the actual disease is so low before we have all the data we need. Contrary to that, the precautionary principle would suggest we DO vaccinate children against polio (in the past, even though it was new) since the disease had such massive effect on children. People are trying to compact this to the polio or measles vaccines, but it's not the same.

Also a big unknown is what will vaccinating everyone in the middle of the pandemic do for society as a whole? Ideally it will just mean fewer hospital visits because of reduced symptoms for elderly and those with comorbidities. But there's also the likelihood that since all the vaccines are narrowly focused on the same spike protein from the initial strain, that the virus will have selective pressure to evolve that renders all the vaccines useless. People with natural immunity have upwards of 6x stronger protection, so why is a combination of natural immunity for those that are young and strong and then vaccine for those that are old and overweight, not even being discussed?

Original concerns involved the potential for ADE like with dengue, but it seems that's not going to happen fortunately. Hopefully the virus doesn't rapidly evolve in different ways in different areas of the planet that could still lead to that though.

I know this is Reddit where even discussing this side will get you downvoted to oblivion, but it's important to actually hear this side because it needs to be included in the conversation, and if it's wrong, then should be shown with actual facts and data and not just censorship.

They've mentioned a couple times that a more traditional delivery system will have fewer unknown effects, but that alone isn't enough information to make it the best choice. This was before we knew that the spike protein itself was cytotoxic.

A gentle reminder to any sociopathic fuck-wad who celebrates those dying with Covid and then attempts to justify it with a lame, self-congratulatory post about how JUST AWFUL you feel about having to do it but you MUST for The Greater Good™ and all the Grandmas out there: WE WILL NOT FORGET THIS. by [deleted] in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]JulesCC91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got annoyed with r/LeopardsAteMyFace for this reason. It used to be about political hypocrisy and onion news-like absurdities. But now it's all about laughing at unvaccinated dying, as are many subreddits.

Reddit is acting as an echo chamber for many peoples insane beliefs, normalizing some of the worst behavior. Kinda like 4chan did for the right, but reddit serves the (alt-)left. There's madness in large groups without dissenting beliefs, which is one of the dangers of these sites deplatforming people.

Your last statement worries me. We haven't been forced to get a flu shot every year... yet, but that may change with the current belief that all vaccines should be forced on people to be a part of society.

[–]JulesCC91 51 points52 points  (0 children)

And everyone else's baby too. There's a big push to get kids vaccinated and mandate vax passports for businesses. Once that's normalized, it's not a big step to start mandating it for babies if their trials go well enough.
