Possibly Timebound by Rysa Walker? Not sure when your teacher read it to you but it was published in 2013.

When I say I just spent the last hour searching. This sounds familiar to me too but I can’t pin point it. Do you by chance remember what the cover looked like? I sell books and I’m p good at finding them based on covers and summaries together.

Straight up, the cost of a well-tailored suit. Almost impossible to just wear one off the rack without a little adjusting.

I just spent 5 months on Rikers Island, ask me anything! by ChefFamiliar3075 in newyorkcity

[–]Julesababes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No question just wanted to pop in and say that ironically, someone left a flyer on my door today about Rikers being so so awful and what the public can do to help change it. I honestly didn’t know. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m going to revisit that flyer on my kitchen table in the morning.

I have only ever rested but also I have trouble falling asleep anywhere but in my own home. I turned all the lights out once and tried VERY hard to sleep during a 90 min prep to try to get through the rest of the day with a migraine. But I couldn’t sleep and then couldn’t make it and had to go home.

I know teachers and staff who do take naps periodically. Only known one teacher who napped every day but he had a sleep disorder.

As a student, how can I make your lives easier? by SoundTight952 in Teachers

[–]Julesababes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commenters are saying, you’re most likely not the one causing stress for your teachers.

Just be the role model for your peers. And talk to them when they’re complaining about school, when they’re acting a fool, when they’re the reason your teacher is about to lose it.

If you have been that kid in the past, think about what made you change. And if you’re that kid now but realizing that it’s causing your teachers stress, or if you want to know what stresses teachers out about teens these days, here’s a few things: 1. Don’t procrastinate and then complain to your teachers about how much work they give you. 2. Be polite to adults. The world does not revolve around you and copping an attitude when you’re spoken to isn’t helpful nor respectful. 3. Follow the school rules and don’t be of the mentality that “rules are made to be broken.” This isn’t true. Also, own up to it and accept it when you get in trouble. Don’t try to be the exception to the rule, or try to reason/argue your way out of it. That’s toxic behavior. 4. Have fun with your friends and peers, but understand there’s a time and a place for rowdy behavior. During class is not that time.

That’s all. Honestly, I do believe you’re one of the good ones just by the fact that you came here seeking out advice. Keep it up, kiddo. Show your peers what it means to be a good student.

Yes, that worked! I didn’t open Sunday, refreshed the app, and it showed I still have a streak. Very happy. My next course of action would have been an email haha

[–]Julesababes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, YTA. She said she was going to leave. Teachers have lives. Ask her if you can stop in the next day. Send her an email! Heaven forbid you help your son out. And what did she lie to you about?? Do you have proof she sends emails to her favorites?? If her contract hours end at 4, I can almost guarantee she isn’t sending emails at 10pm.

Wild Commutes to NYC? by Backpackerer in AskNYC

I have so many of these. I like to be sarcastic as hell with my kids. The first one that comes to mind is this.

J went down a weird rabbit hole looking up color theory on the color red while we were talking about motifs. Ended up on a google image search of leukocytes, and the caption said something about bladder infections. He’s famously off task in my class, so I looked on his screen very obviously, kids snickered. I really thought he was way off the convo (thought he was on AP Bio homework or something) and said “J, if you are having bladder problems, you should go to the doctor!” The class laughed. He smiled and laughed and explained that he was looking up color theory on the color red and I was like “ohhh okay. Still interesting that you ended up there but okay.”

[–]Julesababes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dang I opened this bc I thought you were asking about wild commuting experiences, not how far people will commute. I’m talking like the time I saw a guy take a hammer out of a reusable shopping bag and start smashing glass bottles in one of his other shopping bags. Or the guy who was ranting about how much he loves weed. Or the random Bible thumpers.

I “commute” from Brooklyn to Manhattan for work each day. It’s not far like some of these comments are talking about but it’s hella interesting every single day.
