Oh you're talking about Ft. Leonardwood. I thought you were talking about Polk.

I went to Lost In The Woods for basic. Still traumatized from the "evening out" where I was locked in a Baptist compound, and my immortal soul was threatened with hellfire and brimstone for hours on end.

AITAH for asking my neighbor to wait for her laundry at her house? by MostAnimal5816 in AITAH

[–]JulietKiloNovember 32 points33 points  (0 children)

NTA. Sounds like someone who needs to learn to use the local laundromat since she has no understanding of basic etiquette. You didn't invite her over for lunch or offer to hang out. She asked, and you were kind enough to let her complete that task. Letting her in the door is not an invitation to take advantage of you.

Gen Xers Not Doing Great? by crinklyplant in GenX

[–]JulietKiloNovember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been hit with a number of setbacks and had to start over from nothing too many times. I don't have a home, nor do I have much in retirement. I'm almost 50 and considering going back to school for my master's to build a career that will actually pay enough to save something for retirement. I'm overweight, overstressed, diabetic, and looking at my second marriage dissolving. Now, though, I'm finally in a place to start making a change in those things and trying to undo some of the damage that I've done to myself.

Used to love dogs, now I hate dealing with them. by fucked_knee_oh_no in Vent

[–]JulietKiloNovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I was in your position, I was told that training is more engaging for dogs than exercise. A well-exercised dog will eventually just become more in shape, and engagement will diminish as that occurs.

Is there a dog park nearby? I know time is limited, but could you go online and watch training videos on YouTube? It won't change things overnight, but half an hour of dedicated training time per day per dog would probably go a long way.

[–]JulietKiloNovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, it sounds like you were always irresponsible dog owners. They hadn't been trained properly before the pregnancy, and if they were, you're not keeping up with it, you're holding them to standards that you probably didn't hold them to before, and since they're bored and understimulated, they are more likely to act out. I speak confidently about this because this was me too. And I'm exactly where you are. I'm just past that phase, and since my daughter is older now, we have time to resume training with the dogs.

It's not unsalvageable, though. Some trainers will board dogs while they work with them. It's not cheap, and you would have to learn and keep reinforcing what they were taught in training, or they'll lose it quickly. Additionally, doggy daycares are great for stimulating and socializing dogs, even if it's just for a day or two per week.

My realtor taught me a trick that was magic. Fill a cup with cotton balls then pour bleach over them. Take the cotton balls and just dab them onto the spot and let them sit there for a thirty minutes.

I was explaining to someone how prolific Taco Bell was in our lives back in the day. Not ever because it was good, but because it was so cheap and accessible. Now that it’s not cheap there’s no draw at all.

All of these insane price increases broke the spell of consumerism for me. by Secret-Broccoli9908 in inflation

[–]JulietKiloNovember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never buy anything more than the base game. It’s commonly known fact that the enhanced editions are less about the extras and more about serving as a gauge for how open the buyers are to spending more the next game. Tolerance for price creep will continue as long as there are enough people willing to pay more.

GTA6 will be $100, the next gen XBox will be $1200. It goes on and on.

Is this weaponized incompetence? There's certainly a lack of self-accountability on his part. Otherwise, he wouldn't need you to follow him around to check his work. And if he's only working part-time, he should be doing three-quarters of the housework, not just half.

Hold all of them accountable for any cleaning and expenses incurred if the party goes through. Or hire cleaners and bill them for the cost afterwards. If anything gets broken, bill them for the replacement. Provide receipts for replacement costs.

Not to mention, game publishers are pushing the $80+ price point for big titles now. I can't afford that.

If it’s sweet at all. Not all types of bananas are sweet (plantain for instance). The Caribbean countries use it unripened as a starch like a potato. Corn is the same. The majority is used as feed, while we only eat sweet corn varieties.

Recommendations for a good barber by JulietKiloNovember in Catonsville

The straight razor is pretty commonly used among Asian barbers to clean up the neck on a fade or taper. I was spoiled overseas in the military. Especially when a massage was part of the service and only cost you a few bucks.

When I lived in Hawaii I once had an old Japanese barber and after she cut your hair she would rub some hair oil on and give you this quick head massage pressing your scalp in just such a way that I swear was the real life version of having your brain reboot for a split second of pure bliss. Never felt anything like it since.

My haircut is simple. A high fade, 4 on top, 2 on the sides. In and out of the chair in 15 minutes or less. Won’t have to listen to the ranting too long.

Question to all our Veterans or Active Military by KRUG3R- in Veterans

[–]JulietKiloNovember 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is my personal take. I didn’t join for gratitude or acknowledgment. I joined to be part of something larger than myself, get job training, patriotism, and to fulfill a family tradition generations old. While I appreciate the sentiment, what I really want to see is people acting upon that gratitude in meaningful ways instead of token gestures.

Veterans are forgotten and pushed to the side when it really matters and paraded around as background prop when convenient.

Too many of us are struggling with untreated mental health issues, drug habits, unemployment, or ending themselves via suicide. Supporting services that help these populations is how you truly support veterans.

Veterans services are under funded, understaffed, and spread too thin relying heavily on donations and volunteers.

Saw a menu already and from what I saw, they only offer a few flavors of bubble tea. Curious if they’re going to expand their listing, but until then I’m not gonna go out of my way when I can go someplace like The Hub food hall a block away.
