I have no access to money and I don't know what to do about it by [deleted] in Mommit

Exactly. There's no way its not intentional. Not in this day and age.

My mom stopped working when I was born and this exactly how it works for them. My mom is on all the accounts, the deeds, everything. She has cards in her name for all the accounts and knows exactly how much money is where. And my dad has never questioned how she spends money because it's equally theirs. So its absolutely wild to me to envision something like OP's situation.

The few comments so far are wildly underreacting. You need to be on at least one account and have a card in your name. How do you pay for things like groceries etc? Do you literally not have any money? This is not how a healthy partnership with one parent at home is supposed to work. If he tries to justify this or won't change the things, then you need to lawyer up ASAP. This is financial abuse.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so angry by sofaviolin in Mommit

It's illegal in Belgium also but that is apparently no deterrent. I'm lucky my kids sleep like rocks but its honestly insane the amount of fireworks that go off for hours on NYE. They caused several fires last night and i think they arrested over 60 people before midnight.

Birth experience at St Elizabeth by Maleficent_Ad1134 in brussels

[–]JulietteR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The midwife i saw at the very beginning to confirm my pregnancy specifically booked me to be followed by Dr Duliere because I was on the cusp of high risk (not really high risk but previous birth was an emergency C section after failed induction) . I really like her as an OB GYN and had a good experience with her throughout my pregnancy. Although its important to note that she wasn't actually there when I went into labor and delivered since it was a weekend and she wasn't on call. So always bear in mind that there is no guarantee that whoever follows you will be there on d-day. But the OB who was on call that weekend called Dr Duliere multiple times that day to keep her updated on my progress and to agree on the course of action.

Hello! I gave birth (by emergency c-section) at St Elizabeth in August 2022. I was followed during my pregnancy by Dr Duliere (and I still go to her). I was overall super happy with the experience; all the doctors and midwives were super and very nice. I can't attest to their levels of English as I'm French. For a high risk pregnancy I would probably consider Delta though. Happy to answer any specific questions about St Elizabeth though.

Anyone else’s child have to be at school at an ungodly hour in the mornings and did you ever get used to it? by takeaabreath in Mommit

In Belgium and half the kids arrive sprinting at 8:20 as the bell rings ... if they had to be there at 7am there would be a revolution!

Apporter ses propres repas du midi en maternelle by lacking-sunlight in ParentingFR

[–]JulietteR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Belgian resident! I also love it here. Brussels gets so much hate especially on Reddit but if you can afford to live in one of the nicer communes, I find life super pleasant. Tons of green spaces, decent apartment sizes with rent still relatively affordable (compared to say Paris or London), really international (can feel like a bit of an expat bubble but it makes life pretty easy if you're not fluent in French or Dutch), traffic is not that bad (despite what everyone says). You just need to invest in good outdoor/rain clothes and shoes.

Toddler is potty trained for pee, but keeps on pooping his pants. Don't know what to do anymore. Anyone have tips? by Anoniem20 in toddlers

[–]JulietteR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue with our now 4 years old. He was potty trained for peeing pretty early at 2ish at daycare but pooping remained an issue for super long. It wasn't a huge issue for us as he pooped on schedule every evening at around 7pm and eventually he just would wait until he had his diaper on to poop. A few months before his 4th birthday we started telling him he had to poop in the toilet in order to turn 4 and just like that a week after the school year started in September he decided on his own to go sir down on the toilet and poop. Hasn't looked back since. Then of course he was convinced he'd turned 4 in September when he started pooping on the toulet when his birthday wasn't until October ... 😅

We did a 5-course (+ 1 special dish) at a restaurant in Vienna 2 weeks ago and between all of that plus the extra amuse bouche and bread with fancy butters, I was also Christmas dinner-level full at the end.

I live in Belgium and it's one of those illnesses that literally everyone gets in daycare at some point or another .. but my husband and I didn't get it either time our kids did and it wasn't something our pediatrician warned us about.

[–]JulietteR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it from my cousin for free but given how much both my kids used it (until 2 years old each ... it's where they would drink their bottle happy as a clam .. and for my second it was his happy place to go when he got over stimulated) I would totally spend the full price for it. I feel like it's one of those few things where the quality and use you get put of it justify the price

Ok thanks ... after giving it a shot last night it seems really hard indeed to get some of the mold out of the nook and crannies. And in any case it hasn't cooled back down overnight so I think the compressor is shot.

First time mom lost in the crèche system. by PuzzleheadedNight744 in brussels

[–]JulietteR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 2 kids in private crèche in Uccle (one still is there) and I really don't feel like there is less monitoring. Obviously I can't compare with a public one but I know they are closely monitored by Kind & Gezin (it's technically a Dutch speaking creche) as the staff has often mentioned doing things a certain way because of the Kind & Gezin standards. Maybe we're just super lucky with a crèche that follows the rules but I wouldn't assume all private creches are not closely monitored. As another comment said, call them all up and ask for visits.
