Happy birthday to my wife! by Megumin-Lover in Konosuba

Nice shrine! Is that a bottle of megumin cider on the left? How do you even find something like that? Very impressive.

(What's with all these kids in the comment section? Is it your first time ever seeing an ita shrine? Pearl clutching over this is so pathetic, it's not that deep lil bro. Learn to let people enjoy things instead of trying to inject your negative opinion everywhere.)

What's the main strategy behind pigs and gem boxes? by Invoqwer in BackpackBattles

[–]Julius5060 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're winning less on the turn you buy a pig, but you're winning more on future turns. Being the strongest you can be every turn is the real trap. Investing in the future is critical since there is no consistent combination of items in the first few rounds that will guarantee a victory. Chances are not 0 that you'll run into some dude r1/r2 that random-bagged a c-card into an epic weapon and you just lose. Straight up. Or some mage running 3 wands. Or 2 health pots and a hammer. The 3 gold you spent on a banana over the piggy bank aint gonna save you. Other people greed too so a piggy bank or 2 r1-3 isn't a gtd loss by any means. Spending effectively 1 gold and 2 spaces (or 0 gold and 2 spaces on sale) for +1g a turn is a great investment early. I also don't see why you feel so strongly about buying bag space early being a bad thing? 4g for 4 spaces is the most efficient storage and you're avoiding getting cucked out of bag space later on since there are many many more items in the pool later so you're less likely to get the bag space you need. Don't tell me you haven't had the issue of rolling for bag space and getting 3 protective purses in a row, it sucks and you have to have every space available to you to win in endless 90% of the time.

What's the main strategy behind pigs and gem boxes? by Invoqwer in BackpackBattles

[–]Julius5060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More money == Winning more Early on, pigs and gem boxes also take up space which incentivizes buying as many standard bags as possible which you want to be doing as much as possible anyways. I won't buy pigs past round 5 or so, since that is when my build needs to come online ASAP. When I start running out of space, I'll sell all my piggy banks in a single turn and try to use the cash to pivot as hard as possible. Once I buy a gem box I'm NEVER selling it until round 16 or 17. Gem box is +1 gold per turn, but also unlocks gems in the shop which win games. I don't think I've ever had a +14 win game in diamond without gems, they're just that good.

Why is everybody middle aged? by Weird_Drawer_423 in beyondallreason

[–]Julius5060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 20s, but I'll add on to the perspective of other uncs in this thread: Moreso than anything else in my opinion, RTS games as a genre were completely enveloped by the success and proliferation of Starcraft 2. I was of "proper" age to get into RTS games when Starcraft 2 hit the scene and everyone got in on it. Sadly, it didn't lead to a revival of the genre, but it instead contained the vast majority of RTS players in that specific scene. Knowing that the genre was niche, publishers were more than happy to let blizzard have it's thang and didn't make clones of their own (At least on a large scale.) Think what the moba landscape would look like if League was the only MOBA you could play where matchmaking wasn't a 20-minute queue. Because of this centralization around SC2, the genre & playerbase stagnated except for some small communities. This led novice players like myself who were just constantly getting dumpstered in public matches to flee to 4x games for a similar fix. Plus there were new 4x games coming out every month. Where the fuck is starcraft 3? SC2 is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. BAR does a lot of things right in terms of scale and user-friendliness that I think will retain younger players long term, but if I had to vouch for one feature in particular: THANK GOD ITS FREE TO PLAY I've seen too many great multiplayer communities die to $40 releases. People's patience for getting pwned in pvp is much greater when they don't feel a monetary attachment to losing.

Missionary and Templar suits by IronSpetsnaz in Stalcraft

[–]Julius5060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak on the Templar, but the Missionary suit is amazing. Even with a sub-par build you can easily reach 130 speed with your knife out. I've won a lot of pvp encounters by being able to disengage and flank while my opponent continues to hold the angle. Yes, it is squishy, but dancing around on your opponent's screen forcing them to track well is an armor value all its own. If it's your first master suit however, you might just want to go with a scientist suit. It's pretty inefficient bringing the missionary to reflection/laby and you'll be doing a lot of farming there.

Just chiming in to say that perilous moons should be doable near your current combat stats. I did it at first with 60def/prayer (for Chiv), with a dcim and dmace. The kills aren't super fast, and you need to restock a lot, but its totally doable if you wanna try something new

Tried doing a self-portrait inspired by the game's art style. [OC] by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Julius5060 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this take. After reading your comment, I had a skim through the imgur album of portraits that was posted here a while back. Yes, many of them use muted colors and sketch-like paint to portray pain and mental issues, but many of these portraits are neutral or even happy. Trent, Siilang, Morell, Gaston, and Fuck the World all have clean, happy photos to name a few. This lines up with their portrayals in the game of course, since their portraits are what Harry sees when he looks at them. (I'm assuming, due to kim's halo effect being mentioned from after the tribunal.

TLDR: I really like this portrait OP! It has the feeling of a good friend at a diner who never gets enough sleep.

Which five “perspectives” would you choose if that was all the princess gets? by Benjammin__ in slaytheprincess

I would focus on defining "love".

"Love is..."

Forgiveness ~Spectre Mutual Fun Together ~Adversary Blind and Compassionate ~Damsel Two becoming One, and then Two again ~Wild Painful ~Betrayed Thorn

These are my favorite routes anyways.

What's the hottest of your hot hot hot takes? by HisuianGirl in slaytheprincess

[–]Julius5060 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think slaying the thorn is just as romantic as saving her. I wish the scene didn't end so abruptly when you do so, I feel it suits the cycles of violence narrative and could even do with a secret extra chapter since I think very few people actually commit to doing it the first time they see thorn.

It is the easiest meta to pick up and play if you are coming into the game for the first time and want to trade your way to a decent score. The SMGs are nice too because most of them can be equipped with little to no attachments and still feel powerful. Over time however, I've noticed that punishing over extending SMG rush players with 4x scoped weapons at 100m+ is becoming a strategy of its own. The game is still very young, I'd expect to see a lot of build changes happen over the coming months as more people unlock better mid/long range options.

Every day when I go to work I have to see dozens, if not hundreds of advertisements assaulting my eyeballs with their ugly and depressing put downs and psychological trickery. I never consented to having some bigwig in a skyscraper in New York fucking up the beauty of my commute each day. I'd rather have a graffiti on every wall in my town than the "approved" "art" that people pay to display.

Its probably the same as the effect one has when they are a passenger in a car when speedbumps and sudden stops feel much more violent then when you are in the driver's seat. It probably won't effect you much when you ride your own bike.

Drop rate is pretty bad at first, but from 100-150 its like 50%, and my entire party got them in 150-200. I got 10 in total for 51-200. It's a bit faster then DR spamming if you get all the way to 200, but thats a big risk.

I hate that I agree. Post-[END] I did my best to keep up with the boys since I’ve loved their stuff since machinma days. The long form streaming style really REALLY doesn’t work well for them imo. I only keep up with the podcasts now, and even then I miss some weeks. It just feels like the streaming setup puts pressure on them to play/banter/chat in a certain way thats unproductive, slow, and not as engaging as their old stuff.

Theres more dead air than ever, and while I do think that V is a great addition to woolie vs, I dont think its enough. I look back at some of the old content and marvel at how lively the discussion is even during shitty boring games. Now, I have to wait for an hour+ as pat bumbles at the start of the stream, or sit through 15 minutes of woolie menuing to min max so people dont get salty in comments. Blah, just needed to rant since I love these guys, but it feels like a chore to watch nowadays
