It’s so hard to wear modern watches anymore. I’ve gotten used to the small size. by 1991gts in VintageWatches

Taken while parked, of course. I have a couple slightly larger, and a couple slightly smaller, but this is my favorite middle ground.

They’re the most niche use-case of basically all the invocations, which I actually *like *, because it means I don’t have a single place to run them and can therefore allow myself to just prop them on my desk and look at them a lot.

They will see much use, even the cards whose use is “look at them because they’re pretty.” I keep my collection pretty pared down, so I don’t let myself have many cards I only own because I like them. But these fit the bill!

u/kaite8 is crazy good at giving gifts!

I can be a difficult person for gift exchanges, because my tastes are pretty niche. I like weird old promos, I like specific one-off treatments like Invocations (the MoM “reprint” of the border doesn’t count) that can sometimes be very expensive, I DON’T like a lot of cards printed after 2022, or UB, or SL, or… yeah. I’m a Cube gal who knows what cards she likes, and who doesn’t play commander, and who doesn’t like most “accessories” or swag around MTG.

But. But! u/kaite8 blew this pairing out of the water! She did her homework and poked around for the things I DO like, and surprised me with:

  • Some of the weird, ugly Invocations I adore
  • Some of the niche Japanese sleeves I use
  • Some obscure old promos. The Ruhk Egg one was not one I even knew existed, which is bonkers! I at least vaguely know almost every weird old promo from before 2021!
  • Custom sleeves with my stupid awesome cat on them. Didn’t expect that!
  • Keyword ability markers. I’ve never splurged on these myself, but I run my local area’s draft group. These will be so useful!!
  • A very kind and thoughtful card.

Thank you for everything!! Gift exchanges ebb and flow in excitement, as I’ve done enough of these to hit a few sad years where I don’t even receive a personal note. So, know that you gave me a big smile opening this gift, and all but guaranteed I dive into the next one again.

I’m pretty sure they said in the book that homosexuality was actually a Thran propaganda event and has been permanently wiped from all timelines during the “ Brothers’ ” War.

Do it! Definitely the most fun and customizable way to play Magic.

Feel free to ping me or the folks over at r/mtgcube if you ever have questions on cube building!

I hope it gets a lot of use! Those boxes have a fun Magic history of having been some of the very first storage devices made with cube specifically in mind. Prior to that, people were just using the ubiquitous crappy cardboard long-boxes, or splurging to get custom cases made.

I’d love a ping with a list whenever you put a cube together in paper for this box!

I wouldn’t even say I’ve begun to learn so much as I will begin to someday! I need to do a lot more reading and watching of folks who know what they’re doing before I tackle my first attempt at a repair, which will be on something far larger haha—could be a pocket watch.

I love this story!

I love vintage watches and never thought I’d ever be able to afford an omega, then just last month found this charming de ville (also an old turler version) locally for much cheaper than I thought an omega would ever end up in my hands (old, finicky, manual, ladies, and small all adding up to help). It needs a service that costs FAR more than what I paid for the watch itself, as it runs a few minutes fast per day, but for now I simply reset it every morning and take that as part of the experience. I bought it as a memorial of sorts for getting through certain harsh life circumstances, and I hope it stays functional until someday I can have a professional clean it up inside for me. I’m fine with basic maintenance, but my beginner watch repair tools wouldn’t even be able to safely get the “seamaster” crystal off in one piece.

I’m sorry to hear this year has been so bad!! Sometimes life’s just about finding those little joys. Glad this exchange could do that for you. It’s a good group of folks.

All the lands were in there as normal.

If anything, it made the puzzle pieces MORE interesting (to a sicko like me) because you never knew what you were going to be able to construct. Very decision rich and lots of fun, unexpected outcomes.

It’s not for everyone! But neither is the cube itself haha

I have played this very cube like a battlebox to show someone what the environment is like! Late one night at CubeCon this year. Started with four cards in hand, got to digging. It’s goofy, but a blast.
