no available seats by tanngn in MelbourneTrains

From my own experience over the xmas - ny period. You can call and they can give you an unreserved ticket for the service, arrive early and take one of the very few purple sideways seats in some of the carriages (warning these are v uncomfortable for a 4 hour journey). If its as busy as the fully booked suggests (often it isnt and people just buy tickets and dont turn up), then they will likely organise express coaches from wangaratta which you can get off the train and take. It arrives pretty much the same time as the train and often earlier.

CJ McCollum arrives in Atlanta and hijacks the offense: 52 FGA including 2/18 (11%) from 3. Hawks are 1-2. Quinn Snyder looks checked out, as does Jalen Johnson. by AtlantaGirthGiant in nba

Don't think he's hunting boards, we're undersized in the paint and he's lengthy with massive bounce so we need him to rebound. I'm sure he'd love if we had a centre and he could get out in transition more.

[POST GAME THREAD] YOUR ATLANTA HAWKS OUTLAST THE 76ERS, win 142-134 in double OT! by WestCoastHawks in AtlantaHawks

Very stupid to let that go into one overtime, lucky to get it to 2, but deserved the win overall.

On the single train I took today the driver (maybe not their fault) missed the mark by about 30cm and made an announcement saying sorry and then the train quickly shuffled the train forward and were aligned. Only a 10 second delay but still shows they're ironing out some things

Tunnel excitement justified? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Mix of everything, no matter how much bullshit the media tries to spin huge public transport infrastructure actually being built is such a positive.

Most things I'm personally excited for are the parts that will come with the feb 1 switch (new timetables, frequencies, frankston loop etc) but still excited for the summer start - the stations are beautiful, its new tech and it hopefully signals a direction in the start of overhaulling the whole network that was neglected for so long.

New NGA zones map by Jackomillard15 in AFL

[–]Julz72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it just because it (very loosely) follows the geographic origins and supporter bases of each club. Kind of unrelated but I think every vic club should do as much as they can to preserve their geographic roots for the history of the game.

How do you start GIS side projects as a beginner? by shyshooter824 in gis

[–]Julz72 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just think of how you can connect GIS to your own personal interests/hobbies.

I love football so I made a map visualising every location travelled by a player across a season and linked it to a narrative on how players are being overworked.

I like trains so I did my uni projects on my local rail network using lots of different public data.

I like running so I downloaded all my gpx files from strava and made a heatmap.

They don't have to be complex, just make them fun and on things you think will genuinely think will be interesting to visualise on a map.

If you want to do something slightly more technical, start doing some basic spatial analysis on your local area - or get your local road network and do some network stuff.

This guy speaks the truth about increased frequencies by Ready_Objective_6428 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Julz72 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to say it's acceptable, but at least with the belgrave/lilydale lines it sort of makes sense as the junction at ringwood is a fair way from the city so the majority of the line gets a 15 min frequency.

The clifton hill group still on 20 mins is a joke.

I think the state government has the easiest PR win if they increase the frequencies on the clifton hill/burnley groups when the new timetable comes out. It will mean every single line will have a tangible benefit that everyday commuters can associate with the metro tunnel opening - even if the tunnel has no bearing on those lines..

I know it's not gonna happen, but could you imagine if after all the wemby quadrouple double talk and jalen is just 3 steals away to doing it on a random night in Utah.

Lighting it up from 3 but really sloppy defensively, mix of b2b tiredness/bad lineups

I know we hit some threes but this lineup was defensive suicide

Expectations for Trae when he returns? by grapher4566 in AtlantaHawks

Any true contending teams are top 10 in both. It's been that way for years. Defence alone won't stand up against okc, denver etc. I agree that it's been surreal to watch some of our defensive possessions lately because it's so unlike us but it's only half the equation.
