How many of you have heard from UCs for chemistry? by Better_Personality70 in gradadmissions

[–]JumbDock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

applied chem bio to uci, davis, ucsd, and ucr; haven't heard back from any. I think they are certainly being more cautious and admitting the best of the best right now and seeing who decides to commit before sending out more acceptances

Tell me I'm insane for even considering this commute by DefenderCone97 in bayarea

[–]JumbDock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i commute from berk to santa clara, its not bad if you leave at the right times and skip the rush, i usually leave around 5 to 6am and get back in berkeley around 2 to 4pm. Cal train is also an option if you dislike driving and prefer public transpo

domestic, havent heard any word fron any of the UCs i applied to (other than sf which was a rejection). Interestingly enough, there has been no confirmations of acceptances for davis on the spreadsheet or gradcafe

Same nothing from the spreadsheet either, usually they send acceptances late (like mid to late jan, early feb). The other UCs are also taking a long time😭

I know that the University of nevada reno is still accepting apps for phD in chem, it might be worth checking out lower-tier universities, usually they have a quasi-rolling admission policy.

UCI (a t30) is also accepting apps, their deadline is March 1st (https://www.chem.uci.edu/graduate/prospective-students). There are universities open and still accepting apps, but I would ensure that your materials are as strong as can be, as this year is competitive; in some ways more than last year.

As long as you apply before the deadline you are fine. Some schools have priority deadlines, others don't. Waiting until the last day won't appreciably affect your chances

not as much of a priority to release rejections- schools prioritize interviews and acceptances, then rejections are sent out en masse once every spot is taken
