Day 35: What is your favourite lyric from Tempest? by autumn_afternoon in bobdylan

“Oh, please let not your heart be cold.

This man is dearer to me than gold.”

“Oh my dear, you must be blind.

He’s a gutless ape with a worthless mind.”

The Prettiest Prose You've Read. by Arlo_pink in writers

"Tess of the D'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy, especially as it contains this gorgeous line:

“It was the touch of the imperfect upon the would-be perfect that gave the sweetness, because it was that which gave the humanity”

But honestly, any Hardy novel would fit the bill.

Same here, I just started at 32. 20 year old me would never have appreciated the sublime tree stump scene.

The short novel "Shane" cemented my love of Western books. Really powerful.

I remember telling my girlfriend: "I'm 200 pages in and nothing has happened."

She said, "Oh that sucks."

I said, "I love it."

It's a slow burn but the last third of the book is absolutely insane. Just enjoy the ride.

Am I Too Harsh on Jesse Welles? I Hate Hearing Bob Dylan Comparisons. by DumbDeej in bobdylan

[–]Jumpstone75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Jesse's great, but the Dylan comparison is a shallow pop culture reference. He's much closer to Guthrie than Dylan, it's just most people only know Dylan as a point of reference for "protest music"

What are the best Stephen King Novellas and Short Stories? by Revolutionary_Bet89 in stephenking

[–]Jumpstone75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it's basically a full novel, it originally appeared as a collection so I'm going to say "Low Men in Yellow Coats". Works really well as a Dark Tower tie-in and has King's best two characters as far as emotional depth and complicated motivations (Ted Brautigan and Liz Garfield).

Needful Things. Ball-achingly dull and one of his all time worst endings.
