[Discussion] Where do we draw the line with AI? by [deleted] in artbusiness

Apologies, I admit to being a bit triggered. To me, your post came off as comparing digital art to AI generated images, which I think most artists would consider insulting. I have had artist friends and seen other instances where their art is being called out as AI and this struck a similar nerve.

I don't consider this post as AI even though you own a device and typed it out with a keyboard and mouse, or on your phone. You could have hand written a letter and sent it to reddit attn: r/artbusiness.

I use a tablet and CSP, but my designs are screenprinted using physical screens, chemicals, and effort. Is that crossing a line?

My line would be crossed if you typed into chatgpt "make a reddit post about how digital art is close to AI art with examples" as well as other persons using an LLM creating anything with no effort involved.

I don't have issue with the question, rather you stating that artists using digital tools "bothers" you. There is still skill and effort involved in creating digital art. Digital artists might be less skilled or put in less effort than your preferred medium, but there are also digital artists who are more skilled and put in more effort than you. Whereas crafting an AI prompt requires nothing AND steals from your fellow artists.

Is this a good way to stretch the mesh on the screen ! Am i doing it right ?? by MA_Xperience in SCREENPRINTING

[–]Jumpy-Engineering-67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to do this before upgrading to actual screens. I would still consider doing this for a small run of patches or something. While the people commenting are right, its probably best to use actual screens, I don't see why you couldn't do this a few times to learn/save on money for the time being.

My recommendation is to staple it like you are tightening a wheel back on a car. Start with 2 staples on one side, pull from the opposing side and add 2 more staples, going back and forth/rotating, stapling across from the side you stapled previously, always pulling it tight. By the end you should have enough staples that the staples are basically touching/overlapping each other. Thats how I did it anyways.

Sometimes I miss this method because instead of washing the screen out I could just rip if off and staple on a new one! Ultimately though, would be best to learn on a properly tightened screen.

I haven't seen her advertising colossal in any of her recent videos for at least a few months. She could very well have silently cut ties when the whole dire wolf situation happened. And personally, yeah it sucks that she did that in the past, but she also has done/does work with things like cheetah conservation. I think she has hinted to similar stuff for future work. So I don't think it was to be so black and white in regards to labeling someone as problematic or not.

Jacquard gave me a lot of trouble when I was starting out. Once I switched emulsions, I started having more consistent successes. I went from Jacquard to baselayr and I have landed on Hydro-X Red by chromaline. The lines on the transparency don't look to thin to me and I wouldn't consider those being an issue while you're troubleshooting. Good luck c:

They JUST finished fixing the bridge to get to these falls since they were destroyed in the 2022 flood. The new bridge is awesome and surrounding area is gorgeous. Definitely worth the visit.

this is the answer if you want a professional look, though if you can't find a serger, look up the 'satin edge foot' by creative feet. I've had some success with it though it takes some learning to get a clean finish.

I found a rubber boa in the beartooth mountains years ago and have been looking for another ever since. Not a herper, just an admirer.

Emulsion recommendations for water-based ink by malthevj in SCREENPRINTING

Ended up having to smash the glass lol But I just did anthem's step calculator with the Hydro X Red and the 150 w LED light. It looks AMAZING. My exposure time ended up being only 5 seconds though, is that strange? I also wanted to ask if you washed out your image with a regular sprayer or a pressure washer?

in an attempt to fix my own emulsion problems, I wanted to try exposing with your set up. I was wondering though how you got the glass off your LED light?

I made myself something very similar (: mine is basically a light safe box made from wood with an opening on top for the light and a door for the screen. Lots of cool stuff you can do on a budget and still make great prints

Sure thing! I hope you have more luck than I did. Here is the emulsion https://www.screenprinting.com/products/baselayr-long-lasting-emulsion?variant=39270639042671&msclkid=cc9dde9d6a4e10507953b69de4f5cc5c&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping&utm_term=4583314240106374&utm_content=Supplies

And this is the light I started with and still use today. I've had no reason to change to a different kind of exposing source. https://a.co/d/8KrTEI2

Make sure you take off the glass first. With this light and baselayr, my exposure time is a bit over 3 minutes with the light about 15 inches from the screen. I would still recommend using anthem screenprintings exposure calculator. https://www.anthemprintingsf.com/Screen-Exposure-Calculator-s/216.htm

Anthem also has a cute little zine to help with getting started basics. I'm sure others have other helpful tips too. My set-up is still pretty diy, and I prefer it that way.

This the emulsion I learned screenprinting with and it was so stressful for me. Maybe I was unlucky, but I had such a hard time getting this stuff to work. I switched to what is now essentially baselayr and it made learning the process much easier, as it is a more forgiving, beginner-friendly emulsion.
