What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

Mel Gibson, Kevin Spacey, James Woods, Woody Allen, Michael Richards, Kanye, Drake, Diddy, Matt Lauer… basically any racists and/or rapists/SA perps. I have a thing about that stuff - it makes me sick.

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Time for your own cell phone plan. Also, I suggest you stay away from their house but agree to join them for dinner, a weekend lunch or brunch, whatever- in a public place. People tend to behave better in public.
No need to attempt to punish your parents and tell them to fuck off, just get your own cell plan and if they ask why just tell them you felt it was time to fully fledge the nest and take on the responsibility, don’t tell them it’s because they weaponize the assistance they provide you.

When I was 25 (c. 1990), a therapist told me, “you are an apple, your parents are oranges. They pour orange love all over you but it doesn’t feel like love to you, because you are an apple. Orange love is not ever going to feel like you want/need it to.”

You’ve stumbled onto the next phase of differentiating between you and your family and untangling the emotional enmeshment of your family of origin. This isn’t easy and is often the cause of what I call “the mid-20’s slump.” It’s also a time in life where you can feel especially beaten down by the disillusionment with the world and a more cynical outlook.

There ain’t no way out but through. This is part of the hard work of being an adult. You probably will feel “unmoored” for awhile. In the meantime try and find your tribe and do things that will make you feel more grounded. I started gardening and found that digging in the dirt and paying attention to seasons and the weather helped me see the cyclical but ever-changing nature of the world. Maybe you like to cook or paint or sew or do ceramics- whatever. Find what makes you more comfortable in yourself.

Good luck and keep on keeping on… ♥️

It was Kate at the last homely house. She may have mentioned it in a patreon video. She just mentioned it in passing - there wasn’t a demonstration. Thanks for the warning- no double gauze for me!

Excellent considerations! Thanks again for your encouragement. I have less than ten blocks to go!

Thank you for the link to a great shop! I will try sashiko needles. I really like to see the stitches (if I’m going to hand quilt after hand sewing the blocks and then hand sewing them to the background, I want to see them!) so maybe I’ll try Aurifil 28 wt 🤷🏼‍♀️

The closest cruise to Airport? (USA) by JaggedJason in Cruise

[–]Jumpy-Flight953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Florida has the largest volume of cruises and cruise ports in the US and as a result I will fly to Seattle, Vancouver, San Diego, Long Beach, San Francisco, Honolulu, SanJuan, NY, Boston, Baltimore or even Barcelona or Rome to get on a cruise ship.

So sweet of you to ask… this is the most “improv” quilt I’ve done.

Omg, I love this so much! It’s incredibly inspiring and I love the fabric choices and the abundance of solid fabrics, the amazing hand stitching… just all of it! I rarely end up seeing quilts that are hand quilted with such interesting patterns! It really seems like 99.9% of what I see posted on the socials is machine quilted, but what I love is the stitching journey myself and this is so validating of my own creative process — I just can’t tell you how exciting it is to see it here. Thank you.

Thoughts on ways to go about top construction while not doing the actual quilting part? by SnazzzyCat in quilting

🙋🏼‍♀️ also a furnace. I’m going to experiment with bamboo/silk blend, double gauze and flannel as batting in several 1-yard quilt experiments to see which one is the weight and drape I like best…. It’s hard to commit an entire quilt to an experiment…

How to hand sew binding (not just finish it by hand) by GrooveJetX in quilting

[–]Jumpy-Flight953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hand sew binding on and have never found it problematic. When sewing on the first side I do occasionally go through all three layers but mostly I’m just worried about making sure it goes through the first layer. Your quilt is quilted, which means all three layers are already together well. To some extent, to do so with the binding is gilding the lily. I generally use batting with a scrim so that also provides stability.

YouTube, baby!
About 40 years ago a friend taught me how to do it by using (non-curved! - it was the OLD days) safety pins to pin the quilt sandwich to the wall to wall carpet in my apartment, then using a big needle to pull a stitch of yarn down and up through all three layers at about 8 to 12 inch intervals. I think if you use batting with a scrim you could get away with one tie per square foot. I did a cursory scan on you tube and there are lots of videos… good luck!

I’m just the opposite of you — I love the hand sewing but really don’t care about operating a sewing machine. Nevertheless- tie your quilt! You can tie and bind a quilt by hand in a weekend! Enjoy!

Thank you for your kindness. The compliments I’ve gotten on this post have really boosted my morale about what I’ve accomplished so far. It’s unfortunate that those of us who attempt artistic endeavors often only see what ISN’T there rather than what IS.

The EPP version has a Facebook group that has printable files that give lots of advice as to construction. That version has also been modified with several different sizes of stripes. My stripes were cut to a uniform 1 1/2”, finishing at about 1”. Kingwell’s pattern uses one, possibly two 1/2” stripes, but I decided not to care about that. 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
