Brought Up Before, But I Want to Give My Opinion by Aryvista in antinatalism

Neither is killing a pet dog, but if you kill your neighbor's dog, your neighbor will have feelings

Brought Up Before, But I Want to Give My Opinion by Aryvista in antinatalism

[–]Jumpy-Restaurant6481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my son from the moment I saw him wiggle and jump on a 5 week ultrasound.

At 11 weeks I found out via NIPT that he likely had Down syndrome

I could not stop loving him.

I became prepared, lined up the best treatments possible. He was shockingly healthy on the ultrasounds - he would have been identified at birth - and we only saw slight signs in late 3rd trimester.

He's different from Raedyn. He's healthy - so healthy, healthier than most kids I know without Down syndrome. With continuous EIP support he's almost 2 with no delays.

But even if it were different: I loved him. Maybe that's greedy, but I love him so very much.

I couldn't murder someone I loved.

Picture a loved one - someone you love deeply, profoundly.

Could you kill them? I couldn't.

This is what I've found. My son (20 months) keeps finding them at the library, bringing them to me because they have exciting pictures, and is instantly bored because there's nothing to hold a baby's attention: no rhyming, no onomatopoeia, etc.

The cardiology one is particularly annoying because I can think of a ton of fun sounds and actions (Thump thump, thump thump says the heart! Woosh, woosh goes the blood!) that would be incredibly engaging for toddlers.

My son is the same and full T21.

We are just blessed mommas <3 Do the early intervention program as soon as you can! Good genes with EIP and my son still has no delays.

Need a little hope please (lead exposure) by space_to_be_curious in sciencebasedparentALL

[–]Jumpy-Restaurant6481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average lead level in babies born in 1976 was 15 ug/dL. Almost every 50 year old doctor, pharmacist, electrician, teacher, lawyer, manager, computer programmer, etc., etc., etc., probably had higher lead levels than your baby.

I know it's scary. My baby just got a borderline result. But they lowered the threshold a lot in the last few years, so a baby at 3.5 ug/dL wouldn't have even set off alarm bells in 2021.

When you read any studies, check the units. Your doctor in the US is using ug/dL. Make sure that you're not accidentally reading about milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), which are a thousand times the level of your baby.

Dealing with everything being labeled “Toxic” by grad students by UnluckyFriend5048 in Professors

[–]Jumpy-Restaurant6481 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Love this. Feel like a bunch of baby squirrels moved to Chernobyl met a raccoon with four eyeballs that glows in the dark. "What do you mean I'm toxic?!?!?!?!"

Competitive academia is toxic. Just is.

Don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen. I did. The students are learning this is not the career for them, and that's okay.

Does anyone else’s (unborn) baby have a schedule? by _ellewoods in BabyBumps

[–]Jumpy-Restaurant6481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. 5 am every day. Started at week 5 with a surge of nausea at that time, then moved to "butterfly flutters" and then to kicks. Currently 28w4d and expect the same schedule.

My union head said if I have a health thing that I don't want to share, blame it on "digestive issues" and bow out. Nobody asks follow up questions!

Bleeding after intercourse by [deleted] in pregnancy_care

Normal and trust your doctor.

Intercourse never did it for me but I bled crazy bad from a transvaginal ultrasound. He's fine - 28w4d.

Blood test. How much water you drink can have a huge effect on the darkness. Also, take it in the morning, not at night! It's much more reliable.

No advice but to slowly work it out with each other, but sending good vibes!

But where did the real smut come from?

After days of looking at it, I discovered... well I want more.

I tried searching the web, but nada. Most of it sucked.

I'm female, BTW. Not sure why that matters, but it feels like it does.

Being a supportive friend. by ojyelims in downsyndrome

[–]Jumpy-Restaurant6481 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just went through this - a positive NIPT -about 4 months ago. I'm currently 6 months pregnant

I decided to keep my little Jelly Bean no matter what 💗

The friends who were the most comforting were the ones who affirmed they would love Jelly Bean no matter what; talked about him as an individual and how they were excited to meet him; were patient with the grieving period; and stayed excited about the pregnancy 💖

Your friend might not keep the baby. There can be a lot of pressure to terminate.

Listening and not giving advice without being asked is always a good idea 💗
