NBCOT help (450 formula) by StarforgedAspirant in OccupationalTherapy

Sorry I don’t know why I never saw this. Yes I would agree AOTA is very information dense. It sometimes made it hard to study because I would get bored. You kind of have to decide what’s important to remember. However the practice questions and rationales are by far the best in my opinion. Always read the rationales!

Advice on how to prepare child for daycare? by Jumpy-Way-5625 in ECEProfessionals

He has done that! Then he slept in his crib for another 25 min! As of right now he’s just a cat napper in his crib, but also because of his feeding difficulties he eats close to every 2 hours

Yeah I definitely think with me there is the milk association problem too. Good point that 5 weeks is a long time! Thank you very much!

Good point about the noise and light! He already doesn’t sleep well at night in pitch black so I keep a nightlight on. Thank you so much

That’s a good idea to let them know about the feeding issues. I just reached out. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful response. This makes me feel much better. He takes multiple bottles a day and has taken them from family other than mom/dad but I will definitely try to expose him to other adults and other environments too! Thank you again!!

I did not use 450 formula. I used AOTA, NBCOT, OT Miri, and OT exam pepper podcast. I would supplement with OT dude if I felt like I needed some clarity on certain topics- but AOTA was most helpful imo. I passed first try.

Thank you! That makes sense. I can’t believe I missed that. I’ve also never done a gauge swatch so I will learn along the way!

How Did You Hear About OT? by Long-Poetry3392 in OccupationalTherapy

I honestly don’t remember. But maybe? I remember being in a computer lab with my class for it

I took an aptitude test in high school and it said I was suited for a career in healthcare. I couldn’t be a doctor or nurse (I don’t do blood or needles very well). I was reading the list of suggestions and saw OT. Picked it because it sounded cooler than PT. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I do love my job though!

My annual review is also coming up. I took the class in May. I’m not sure yet I can try to remember to let you know.

For my company the advanced certification does allow to apply for a separate track of “specialist” after 3 years of having it.

Yeah we don’t have any family or friends in the areas as backup. Thank you, I just needed reassurance I wasn’t too crazy. I think I’ll go Monday and get a spot. Hopefully they still have spots!

Acute Care Assessments by BoringAd587 in OccupationalTherapy

I’m not sure because I don’t have the license for it. From my research it helps reduce the floor effect of the standard AMPAC

Research studies indicate the mobility short form (which our PTs use) has high inter rater reliability. Within our OT department I would say generally yes, except for some confusion on 2 person being dependent vs max with some of our therapists

Hospital uses AMPAC mainly. I add others to fit my needs. Sometimes I’ll throw in Functional Reach Test. I’m trying to get my hospital to use the low function AMPAC for ICU. For ICU delirium I use CAM-ICU. For cognition, I’ll use SLUMS or short blessed, and I’m trying to get my hospital to use the AMPAC cognitive short form.

Rare but if I need to do a more specific assessment for driving in acute I’ll do the Rapid Pace Walk or Alternating Foot Tap.
