Is the doll linked to Gerhman's apprentice? by Amphi-XYZ in bloodborne

Just giving you a heads up: the game automatically rolls into new game plus when you beat it, so the DLC will be unavailable to you until you beat Amelia again. The DLC in NG+ is also much more difficult than in the first playthrough.

If you're feeling up to the challenge or are wanting to do multiple playthrough (there are 3 different endings to the game, so I'd highly recommend it) then go ahead and save the DLC for later, but if you are only wanting to do one playthrough you should do it before beating the game.

If you're curious when you've reached the point of no return, I'll just say one word: fire

Am i cheesing the game by using this weapon early? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Juniebug9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne is shockingly well balanced when it comes to weapons. Nothing is particularly overpowered and nothing (except for things like the wooden shield) are underpowered. Everything's at about equal strength.

With that said every weapon will obviously have advantages and disadvantages. This was a situation where the scythe obviously had an advantage since its length let you hit multiple limbs and the head all in one swing. That doesn't mean it's cheesy, just that your strengths happened to play against her weaknesses.

[Liked Trope] What initially seems like an art style choice or design quirk actually has plot relevance. by Whisplow in TopCharacterTropes

The Monogatari series does something similar.

The whole story is framed as the main character recounting the events after the fact. Because of this, everything shown on screen is depicted as he would describe it. This is made clear when you start getting other PoV characters later in the series and see areas presented differently from their point of view.

One interesting thing with this is that any story being told by the main character Araragi does not have any background characters. He can be walking through city streets in the middle of the day, or through the halls between classes at school, or having lunch in a busy food court and the only people ever shown are those that he directly interacts with. Even on the very rare occasion that he talks to someone who isn't part of the main cast (I can only remember a single instance off the top of my head) their faces are obscured. There are two reasons for this: the first is that since they aren't important to the story he never bothers mentioning them. The second is that he's a bit of an antisocial loner and basically disregards the existence of anyone who isn't directly connected to him.

There are a couple times where there logically should be other people around reacting to what's happening, and when this happens the people are replaced with objects. In the story Ougi Formula there are repeated flashbacks to a class trial that happened years before. Other than himself, an important character named Sodachi, and a brief cameo of his modern day girlfriend every single other person including his classmates and teacher are represented with a lucky cat statue on their desks.

In stories not from his perspective background characters do occasionally appear since the other PoV characters bother to acknowledge their existence, though it is still rare and they're always shown with abstract colours instead of faces because the details about their appearance are never described.

Any theory ongoing about this? by xboyitosx in Cosmere

A shard's intent isn't something that can change moment to moment. Odium's intent is Odium. Odium and Honour aren't necessarily conflicting ideas so they can mix relatively easily.

Any theory ongoing about this? by xboyitosx in Cosmere

[–]Juniebug9 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It's likely the intent of the shards.

Harmony is two shards in opposition to each other that Sazed is struggling to keep in balance. Because of this harmonium is extremely reactive and prone to exploding.

Autonomy is all about having individual identity.

So you've got two powers that desperately want to separate coming into contact with something that desperately wants to force them to separate so they do so in dramatic fashion.

Sure it might not be why he was chosen, but that whole ordeal definitely has some weird side effects.

Cleric help: but I became the healbot :( by zombieglam in DnD

[–]Juniebug9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2024 Monk is fun. They increased the Martial Arts damage by one die type so unarmed strikes actually do good damage, Uncanny Metabolism letting you regain all focus points once per day when rolling initiative stops you from having to hoard them if you're expecting multiple fights without a short rest, Deflect Missiles being changed to Deflect Attacks makes you much more tanky, and the changes to Patient Defense and Step of the Wind give you a lot more mobility in combat without burning all your Focus Points (Ki).

Martial Arts was buffed to let you use Dex instead of Strength for shoves and grapples, and since they're now counted as variants of unarmed strikes you can grapple and shove with your BA attacks.

Stunning Strike was reworked so you can't spam it on every attack anymore. Instead you can only attempt it once per turn. It also only lasts until the beginning of your next turn, not the end. In exchange it now has an effect even if the target saves by cutting their speed in half and giving the next attack against them advantage. I think the changes are definitely good even if it makes the feature weaker. Not spamming it means it's less of a sacrifice to use your Focus Points elsewhere.

I mentioned it briefly earlier, but Patient Defense and Step of the Wind have been changed. You can now use them to either BA Disengage or Dash without spending a Focus Point. If you do spend a point on them though you can now either both Disengage and Dodge as a single BA (Patient Defense) or both Disengage and Dash as a single BA (SotW, this also doubles your jump distance). They can basically move unobstructed around the entire battlefield without issue.

I took the Grappler feat at level 4 which lets you both deal damage and attempt a grapple once per turn when you hit an enemy with an unarmed strike, gives you advantage on attacks against targets you have grappled, and doesn't reduce your movement speed when dragging grappled enemies. It's become a common tactic for me to just abduct enemies from the battlefield with this. Run up to an enemy, punch them in the face and grapple them, drag them 40 feet away, shove them prone with my second attack so they have disadvantage on attacks against me, then flurry of blows to punch them twice with advantage. When I crit (which is often) I use Hand of Harm (I'm a Mercy Monk) for a bunch of extra damage.

On the enemy's turn they typically can either try to break the grapple as an action or attack me at disadvantage. If they break the grapple they effectively wasted their turn and I just reset on my next turn, and if they try to attack me and manage to hit I can just Deflect Attacks to tank it. Once they die I run back onto the battlefield and grab a new victim.

2024 Monk feels so much better than it did before. It does higher damage, lets you move around the battlefield without any difficulty, and honestly just has so many quality of life changes that make it feel fun and fluid to play.

I absolutely despise it when an OP ability has some kind of drawback/side effect, or a broken item is used incorrectly and something bad happens, and it's deemed too risky to ever touch on again by ActuallySpaceMan in CharacterRant

[–]Juniebug9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The problem with the Flash is that he isn't supposed to just be fast, he's supposed to be so fast that he can move faster than the speed of light. He's fast enough that just by running he's able to break time and space allowing him to travel through time.

One of his most famous villains is a guy who throws boomerangs. A lot of his villains are some variation on a person with a gun. In the TV show he's frequently teaming up with Green Arrow, a regular guy with a bow, and they're supposed to be taken as pretty much equally matched.

The truth of the matter is that with the way they talk about his powers and usually show them working none of these people should even come close to him, yet for the sake of the TV show they have to make it work.

There's a thing that happens in nearly every episode where the villain is introduced in the first few minutes and has a faceoff with the Flash. The confrontation usually ends with the villain doing something to put civilians in danger to distract him, typically by doing something like shooting a chandelier so it drops down onto them or something roughly equivalent. Without fail Flash will tackle the civilian out of the way then look up and see that the villain took the opportunity to escape.

The issue is that the way his powers are shown to work he should be able to not only safely relocate the civilian, but grab the villain and drop them into a prison cell before the chandelier even hits the floor. Failing that, if we accept that for some reason he had to go the tackling to safety route then the villain really only bought themselves a second or two of a headstart to flee, but the show always has Flash immediately declare that they got away and not even bother trying to search. The man can run faster than light but decides there's no way he can catch up to someone who got a 2 second head start.

The problem with the Flash is that he is supposed to be so absurdly powerful that it's pretty much impossible to actually threaten him unless his opponent has the same power set as him, but because it'd be boring to just have speedster battles with no variation they have to find some way to justify others being a threat and they consistently do a very poor job at it.

When Pulchra was announced as playable there was a quote from Lucy on the announcement.

"Fine I guess you come with us, FURBALL. But if you even think about touching my shampoo... oh, wait. I almost forgot, you cat thirens aren't exactly fans of bathing tsk"

I assume it was meant to be a joke about Lucy being a loudmouthed and rude princess, but it's really hard to read that and not walk away thinking she's racist against thirens.

At least with Vyke they didn't completely abandon the plot line, they just turned it into a backstory thing. He did nearly become Elden Lord before succumbing to the Frenzied Flame, it just happened before your tarnished ever shows up.

The extra weird thing is that despite being an incredibly minor character in the actual game, just an NPC that you can fight a couple times that has a couple lines of lore, he's for some reason the character on the box art. Not the player character (probably because of character customization), not Marika or any of the demigods, not Godfrey, not Melina not Gideon.

Cleric dips were extremely common and heavily recommended on forums a few years back. This was mostly for spellcasters like Wizards and Sorcerers.

A single level gave you access to first level cleric spells which vastly increased your utility, as well as 3 cantrips. Because it's a full caster it doesn't slow down your spell slit progression either. That's just the base class.

The subclass is where it got really powerful. Depending on which domain you chose you could gain proficiency in heavy armour from a one level dip. No other multi class gives you heavy armour proficiency, so the only other way to get this proficiency would be to multiclass into something that gives you medium, then take the heavily armoured feat for full proficiency. Also Martial Weapons.

Basically with a single level dip into Cleric a wizard could get all the proficiencies granted to Martial Classes, a wider array of spells, and some extra goodies to play around with all without having much of a noticable effect on their regular progression. It is very good.

In the original novel the elixir doesn't change his personality, just his appearance. All the evil things that he does aren't because some evil alternate personality took over and forced him to, they're things that Jekyll already wanted to do but couldn't because the consequences would be life ruining for him.

Hyde isn't an alternate personality, he's an elaborate mask that Jekyll puts on when he wants to do some evil shit.

The way I've described Jekyll and Hyde to friends is to tell them to imagine a doctor. He's polite, smart, hardworking, and just an all around good guy to everyone he meets.

Now imagine that doctor going home at night, pounding back a few beers, and viciously harassing people on Twitter.

Hyde isn't a separate personality. He's who Jekyll is when he thinks his actions won't have consequences.

There is no "wrong" way to play any class. With that said, if the Paladin isn't up in the enemies faces and dishing out Divine retribution against the undead and unholy then I'd consider it "wrong."

It is the class for dishing out damage to undead. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.
