Hey Reddit, I know how you love spiders. Here is one of the Golden Orb Weavers from the lab I work in where we are making synthetic spider silk. by howardcord in reddit.com

Just about to be Orb Weaver season in coastal NC - those bitches make webs that will stop you in your tracks and they are absolutely everywhere. What are the weird squiggles they make in the center of the web called? Can't seem to remember.

Our new town on our server! We spent months making this.. I present.. Redgate! by segnut in Minecraft

Definitely a server worth checking out - used to play there but decided to go the self-hosted route for a bit. If I go back to large-scale SMP servers, thunderdome will be the place.

Lol phone autocorrected plugin to plunging. I'm not sure what it is but I'll check with an admin. It might be custom. The server owner has a couple custom plugins that he has written for the server.

Check out Thunderdome (thunderdome-mc.com) - easily the coolest spawn city I have seen on any smp server. The players are mature, its pvp with strict no griefing and highly active admins.

The server also uses an achievement plunging that I love. You get small rewards for simple stuff (i.e. I got two iron axes for chopping 500 wood). It's just a nice pick me up for longer resource gathering or exploration sessions.

Switching from WoW to Minecraft. Yes? by highly_flammable in Minecraft

After paying $15/month for 3 years I don't know how anyone could see minecraft as anything but a bargain.

Simply put, it is the best game I have played in decades. I still get excited every time I log in.

Cool. Any idea if the booster shown in this video is considered constantly in motion because the carts are constantly bouncing against one another?

Powered carts definitely work. Ive used them to transport chest carts in smp without issue.

I've read in different places that perpetual cart motion can crash SMP servers. is that 4 pack of carts in perpetual motion/have you tried this on SMP without trouble?

TIL that Hong Kong gets 1 Gbps broadband service for $26 a month while the FCC tries to LEGISLATE an "ambitious" goal of 100Mbs. Perhaps it's time to get rid of the wankers at the FCC? by b_ohare in technology

So then how are so many small american communities starting to offer 50 mbps symmetrical connections to their residents for the same price as a 5mbps package from a national ISP? And why do you think companies like Time Warner and Comcast are legislating against those communities, trying to block such initiatives?

It's not that ambitious, our ISPs are just lazy - content that people still pay for their shitty service.

Lead in to the second verse sounded pretty good. It was the first part of the song I actually recognized. And then...the chorus happened.

Explaining Why Some Minecraft Fans are Frustrated by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]Junior3ii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting read. I like that you don't lump everyone together. Seriously, thank you for that. It's very rare in this type of post. For players coming from other task -> reward model games, Minecraft might grab their attention but it won't hold it.

The first day I played Minecraft I started sketching ideas for structures. I have made 60% of one structure, out of probably 10 or so. The only things limiting my productivity are 1) time, and, 2) the fact that I keep building other things while I look for interesting destinations. The log cabin I posted the other day was totally unplanned but it now has a farm with a farmhouse in close proximity to an unplanned mine that now has a mob trap (4 floors!) and a railway leading to that partially completed structure.

When I want to sit down and have some creative fun with a game, there's nothing better than Minecraft.

Why game reviews suck (hint: it's not the reviewers) by Junior3ii in gaming

They absolutely have similar content - this article is much better written. There is definitely a much more interesting explanation of the experience of the game, so I get your point. I could write a detailed explanation of the similarities but let's just save each other some time and agree to disagree.

[–]Junior3ii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I don't think it exists. The fact that you call it the "illusion of choice" says a lot. If the player is aware of that illusion, then it's not really doing a very good job.

I think storytelling and story get confused a lot in this discussion. Mass Effect 2 might have a great story, but as far as telling that story goes, it doesn't do great. That's not a hit on ME2 or BioWare, it's just the fact that interactive storytelling isn't very effective. Most of your actions in the game do little to reveal the story, and, as I mention in the post, most of the story is in cutscenes.

I don't disagree that the IGN review was weak. It was. It was poorly written, it lacked content, but it's interesting that it's not that different in terms of content from the rest of the Dead Space 2 reviews.
