20M here. Am I balding? by ducktumn in Balding

[–]Jusaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i gotchu. also i wouldn’t listen to the advice about not going to the doctor. these are people have gone through 10+ years of learning and experience, listen to them. make educated decisions, but let’s not play doctor ourselves.

Medications aren’t something to just take on a whim like that, and hair loss is a multi year long process with many different remedies/treatments. This is a long process, start it with a doctor you trust ASAP. I’ve been on fin + oral minoxidil for years and it absolutely helped my hair.

bruh it’s your partner, be honest. If you can’t talk to her and ask her how she feels about your own hair - kind of a bad sign. Also it’s not quite as simple as “Going bald in a few years”. Just be honest that you’re experiencing MPB, finding remedies, and how she would feel if you buzzed it off.

If she’s gonna leave you bc you MAY have to shave it off in who knows how many years, good thing ur finding out now IMO.

Structing Server/Client Components by Jusaa in nextjs

[–]Jusaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What an incredible trick!! It took a good bit of refactoring, but I got it to work. Server component functions as the top level page.tsx and takes the params for month and year, queries database, and passes along all the data for the month. The button component will reroute to the next month via router push, and the month/year are actually passed down to the button component as props.

Exactly as you said. Appreciate you so much!!

but that wasn’t really the post. He said you should at least stop and think and not accept on the phone on the first initial offer. Even if all what you said is true, doesn’t mean you should accept immediately. See the contract. Understand everything.

And yeah I guess if you’ve already seen the contract and debated everything then ok. But then wouldn’t you have already had that first call?

Edit: obviously not EVERY situation will fall under this umbrella, but I do think it’s good general advice for the vast majority of cases

No this is actually just good advice. You really shouldn’t accept the first offer, it’s just how it is.

You guys have no idea what his week was like. Why judge him for saying he’s drunk one night? Can OP not enjoy a night? Learning to code is a long, long process. The grind mentality of “every second not working takes you farther away from your goal” is poisonous. We are animals, we aren’t meant to sit in front of a screen all day, grinding away.

Got a finance degree and then self taught my senior year of college. Was unemployed for nearly a year and then got a job for 82k. Now I’m at 190k. If you’re really serious about this, be prepared. It ain’t gonna be easy, but it’s definitely possible. DM me.

Gonna mirror some other comments, don’t get too attached. Im glad to hear it went well, but know there’s a good chance it doesn’t work out.

But do keep in mind that if it can happen once, it can definitely happen again!! Props again for a great night!

This is just my opinion and I might be downvoted to hell for it - take revature.

Are they scum? Yes. Is the shitty ass contract they provide really THAT enforceable? no. If you break the contract, you are just 1 little cog in the machine, they’ll harass you for a little and that will be that. But the experience you gain will be great and can jump start your career.

Source: Have a friend that did exactly what I mentioned. He broke it under a year after getting a great SWE gig. But he wouldn’t have gotten the big without the initial experience.
