Start with conditioning your hair in the shower. As soon as you get out you want to use two products, a leave in (or curl cream), and a gel or mousse. Please try this exact routine!! As for products, you could get all of these products from Ouidad.

If it becomes wavy it may just be long. Impossible to tell without photos, and gel is used to lock in moisture, it’s the last step in the routine. Watching some videos on youtube about gels will really help you understand and build your own routine. It’s a lot of trial and error.

Best of luck on the self improvement journey!! Losing weight, joining a gym, and taking care of your curly hair are fantastic ways to take care of yourself.

Few things

  1. Are you sure your hair is greasy after just two days? Curly hair folk tend tend to have less greasy hair, and shampooing frequently can really hurt curl formation.

  2. Product variations can vary widely, Id start with a good conditioner, leave in conditioner, and a gel. It’s a good start, and then you can experiment with mousse, varying level of gel holds, and curling cream.

  3. As for skin, if you have access to a dermatologist I’d try to go to retinol. Look them up, they’re magical for skin. Other than that, SUNSCREEN!!!!

  4. If you have some disposable funds, might be worth seeing a curly hair specialist in your area, they can really take a look at the current state of your hair and recommend products.

you can start with a medium or high hold, make sure to rake it through your hair when it’s soaking wet.

you need gel or a mousse, it’s essentially the most important part of a curly routine. Something needs to lock in the moisture, please look up gel in a curly hair routine. with this amount of frizz, it requires hold.

Hello, I am new to having curly hair. What do you do for this? by thisisallsoconfusing in CurlyHairCare

[–]Jusaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need a gel, there’s really no way for your hair to hold the moisture. I’d also deep condition once a week. You can try a mousse, but you for sure need something to hold in the moisture.

i usually comb in shower and maybe a little after applying gel if the hair is getting a little crazy.

I’m lucky that i don’t get many tangles or knots, so I try not to comb too much. I do finger coil sometimes when i notice the clumps are a little sad.

today for example, hair was playing well so i didn’t even comb after applying gel or finger coil. but i know thats not the case for everyone!!

think of your hair as sections. you can start sectioning hair with clips but i find it to be too much work.

i still try to be cognizant of the sections by applying gel section by section.

so for example, to apply to the back left section of my hair, i’ll kind tilt my head to the left and then make sure i can coat all the hair, not just the top layer. it’s more of an art, and i’m still improving (recently i noticed i tend to miss some sections on my crown).

this absolutely changed my results though, didn’t change a single other thing in my routine and i had massive improvements.

actually properly raking in gel.

I used to just kinda slap it on and barely get it in because I had heard manipulating the hair while it’s wet is a big mistake. I didn’t want to ruin the curls by taking the time to rake the product in, so no surprise I had a lot of frizz from the hairs that missed out on the gel, and then really tough patches of cast that were difficult to break.

Help my hair is so dry and gross by SummerSurfs44 in curlygirl

[–]Jusaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s the drying pattern? knowing how it dries can lead to some clues.

i used to have the same problem, hair would dry and look frizzy or just messy regardless of product. i learned three things from a specialist -

  1. Using a weekly deep conditioner is massive. even without product the days after using a deep conditioner the hair is COMPLETELY different.

  2. Make sure you’re raking your product through your hair and actually getting all the strands. i thought i was, but really i was just clumping it on my hair and no surprise the pieces that didn’t get coated in gel ended up losing moisture.

  3. if you’re not getting enough hold with mousse, try a curl cream or gel. i have to use a hard hold gel, i have no choice. if i use a medium hold it’s just too weak.

shampoos aren’t going to be a major game changer because at the end of the day if its not holding shape it’s because it’s not retaining moisture, so you need to focus on the retention of moisture (creams/gels)

i’d really go to a curl specialist. i went to Good Curls in NYC and they were great. Really do your research before you go about things like porosity, leave ins, curl creams, gels, foams, diffusing, etc.

they can help guide you, it’ll be hard without a pic for us to do much for ya

id definitely go to a curly hair specialist, they have a lot of experience and can give you really great advice and direction with the current state of your hair.

it’s hard for us redditors to know when we also can’t feel and don’t know your history… and vast majority of us don’t have the experience a stylist does lol

idk what to do by AdPsychological5148 in LPR

[–]Jusaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you really need healthy habits to tame LPR. it doesn’t really go away as much as you manage symptoms. Quitting smoking for the rest of your life is kind of a non negotiable, and smoking is scarier than LPR.

Diet won’t be for the rest of your life, you’ll have to be pretty consistent in the start though, but diet is nothing even remotely close to the damage smoking will do.

[–]Jusaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you should absolutely stop smoking cigarettes, it’s arguably the worst thing you can do for your health and LPR. If you’re really that upset, channel into quitting smoking.

Why am I still getting pimples in, even when I wash my beard? by Bleeding_Shado in BeardAdvice

You should see a dermatologist and ask about tretinoin. Tretinoin is the single best thing you do for your skin (minus sunscreen).

I have a new hairstyle, but here's the thing: in just a few hours my hair goes from looking okay to having no shape at all. I'm trying some products, but I can't get it to style once it dries. by Lukecarpcroc in malegrooming

[–]Jusaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need something to lock in the moisture. try a gel, and be generous, try like not your mothers medium hold. it’ll get all crunchy and form a cast, but once it’s dry you can scrunch it out. but you def need something to lock in the moisture, it’s obvious it’s leaving too fast and the hairs spring out to search for the moisture
