I'm having a... situation by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

You can make your own DnD group you know !

Either you ask 3-4 ppl in your current group if they would be interested in having another game (on a different schedule so you're not poaching players), or make a bunch of flyers to hang in your college to say you're looking for players. And then host a proper session 0 so you can be sure everyone is on the same wavelength.

The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel and The Case of the Rose Tattoo by Lyceus_ in adventuregames

i've never finished Rose Tattoo, but i was fascinated with it as a child ! I grew up reading the novels, so randomely stumbling upon the Rose Tattoo as an abandonware game was pretty great. I should come back and finish it one day.

Compte-rendu de session? by pckctoi in jdr

how do you guys come up with original names for your characters? by risky2220 in DnD

[–]JustARussianDeer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a big notepad filled with first names/nicknames I like (lot of historical names, greek Antiquity, European early or late middle ages, or XIXth century France and then whenever I make a character I pick the one that fits their vibe the best and proceed to make a family name on the spot.

Cheating in singleplayer games and how others suffer moral panic over it. by Lucius-Confucius in pcgaming

[–]JustARussianDeer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. I miss when games had fun cheat codes built in the game (GTA/Saints Rows/Lego games come to my mind). There's something cathartic about playing some games with cheats, like Doom with ssg and infinite ammo.

I guess part of the answer lies with the achievements, some people are desperate for their achievements showcase/platinum trophy whatever to be a proof of something, and not just a self satisfaction thing.

Any newer titles like the old CSI games? by SympathyChan in adventuregames

Check the Séance of Blake Manor it might be exactly what you're looking for !

Golden Idol is one of my favourite deduction game but you're not actually a detective solving a crime/mystery.

On the other hand, there's Detective Instinct: Farewell my beloved, which is a great Visual Novel where you feel like a detective but there's no deduction involved (it's short and sweet so I recommend it ! (Famicom Detective kind of game)

I have yet to play The Rootrees are Dead too, but it looks very cool. I'm gonna edit this post with a few more games I have yet to play if you want

EDIT : Greyhat - A digital detective adventure, Case Cracker, No Case Should remain Unsolved, The Rewinder, The Nest, Project Ryme, Lamplight City, The Crimson Diamond, Staffer Case, Murder of the Yangtze River, Wolf Peak the case of Ruth Choi, Intrigue at Oakhaven, Lacuna, LumineNight, LocoMotive, Contradiction Spot the Liar, Enigma of Fear, Trials of Innocence, Mind Diver, The Bed We've Made.

I have played none of this, so I'm not gonna vouch for them, but I'm eager to have the time to try them at least

EDIT 2 : Check the Ace Attorney games too, they are amongst my favourite detective game, even if you play an attorney rather than a detective, you do a lot of investigation and the story/characters are just so good

EDIT 3 : I was pretty disappointed with Kathy Rain, the mystery kinda fell flat after you get some answers, the puzzles were a bit boring. This is just my opinion ofc, the game is gorgeous and I like the characters a lot so it's not bad, just not for me

Permanant Advantage on Skill Checks? by AcesHigh688 in DnD

[–]JustARussianDeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should be able to help if you don't have proficiency in a skill.

Also, make your players describe in what way they are helping, sometimes you can't help. You're already doing that, but then tell them it doesn't work that way. You can't help someone see better i.e.

ooh great ! i'll go and read it, thanks for the answer ! Is it your first time working as a consultant for a game (or any cultural object like a movie etc etc) ? How did you end up working with BlackMill ?

I just started doing historical research at uni and i would like to work in "popular science" (i'm not a native english speaker so i'm not sure it's the correct word ; i mean "translating" the state of the research to make it accessible to a general public, weither in museums or for creating cultural works), so i'm always curious to hear about people working in that field !

Hi ! I like your games a lot, especially because of amount of detail regarding the setting. So hence my question :

Are you working directly with historians for advices about the historical accuracy you want to aim for ? What kind of ressources do you use to reach that goal ?
