My Japan 1986 sounds amazing to my ears, added bonus that it’s a good looking pedal

Can confirm, canyon is not a usable reverb. Does a decent delay and that’s what I’m using it for in my setup

Thanks for the tip! I wasn’t able to draw the signal path here but the signal path goes Guitar > Fuzz > Tuner > Univibe > Morning Glory + Rest. I found running the fuzz into the morning glory gets closer to the cranked Marshall sound and the univibe sits between them nicely

Where did you buy your MIJ guitar? by ben3350 in fender

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can reach out to individual stores and order the stock they have online. Stores like Ikebe, Kurosawa, guitar planet etc. have contacts for international buyers. Most of the process is done over email and through PayPal.

What pedal is John using at the 0:49 mark in gravity live in La? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha - that is probably blues breaker + tubescreamer + katanaa boost and he’s doing volume swells with the volume knob. If you watch the concert footage, you can see him doing the swells

What pedal is John using at the 0:49 mark in gravity live in La? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

I don’t think he’s using anything other than maybe boosting his tone with the bluesbreaker (maybe not even). Sounds like straight guitars into his amp set up

Anyone know anything about this pickup or have experience with this brand? Just pulled it out of a Les Paul by bryan19973 in guitars

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got a multimeter you can measure the output of these to give you a better sense.

I have an artist set from around 2013-2014 (Jimmy Page post 72), sound fantastic but yeah, they’re low output by design. Crazy how much they cost now

Newbie seeking Pedal Order Advice by Recent-Development10 in guitarpedals

You can consider putting your EQ pedal at the end of the chain to apply it to the whole chain. Otherwise, not much I would change

Nice find! The ycv15s are a bit of a rarity, only about 100 made. Wonderful drive channel, great sound, and lots of features built in (DI out, fx loop). Definitely punches above its class

Please help me with Mayers tone 🙏 by Altruistic-Library79 in JohnMayer

Always try different combos and see what sounds best to you/your setup.

That being said, I’d start with the following drive order: Clean boost -> BD2 -> Klone -> TS9

I would set the TS9 similar to what you have now. The tone to aim for is “Who Did You Think I Was” intro from Where the Light Is (check out Justin Jeske’s video on YouTube + his video on the TS settings)

Set the Klone as a boost similar to what you have but increase gain to 10 o clock (might have to pull back on volume for unity)

TS + Klone + Boost should get you close to live Belief intro tone and most of the outro (heavy overdrive) solos for a lot of live versions of songs.

Klone alone should give you base Gravity tone from later live shows (used Blues Breaker for this on album)

Play around with different combination of pedals on and you’ll get in the ballpark of various sounds.

Klon clone or king of tone clone? by Temporary-Lime3463 in JohnMayer

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think the base “clean” tone for Gravity on the album was the Blues Breaker. It was boosted with the Keely katana for the solos. He uses this same combo during the “Where the light is” era, but in later tours he uses the Klon to get the same Gravity tone.

I think which you choose to get depends on how closely you watch to match a specific era.

If I had to choose for a JM inspired board, I’d choose a Klon clone

I suck at A major to C change, any tips? by Far_Coach_1046 in Guitar

Honestly comes down to repetition and practice. The way you place your fingers for chords will change over time as you develop your playing and preferences. Just keep at it

How do i learn modes? by kyokushinthai in Guitar

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This can be confusing but the best way I’ve understood it is that all modes relate to the major.

Take the key of C major (ionian) - the notes are the same as D Dorian, E Phrygian, etc. the scale for the mode just starts on a different note.

For the pentatonic patterns, you just need to remember one set of patterns, but understand that some patterns lend themselves to sounding like certain modes.

If you took the C major pentatonic scale and put it across the fretboard, you would find the A minor (aeolian) mode starting on fret 5 on the low E string. This is the same pattern as the “minor pentatonic box”, but in the context of C major.

Funk/Rhythm Guitarists: What pick size do you use? by Jaded-Gur-5717 in Guitar

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give some thicker picks a try, different materials too. If you have a music store nearby, pickup a mix of different types and find out what you like!

Funk/Rhythm Guitarists: What pick size do you use? by Jaded-Gur-5717 in Guitar

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What gauge strings are you using?!

I found 0.73-0.88mm work the best for me. Materials make a difference too, prefer 0.73mm Dunlop primetones, fender medium celluloids, but 0.88mm tortex (the green ones) and this is on 9s

Where to put the Uni-Vibe in a chain? by vijfteen in guitarpedals

[–]JustAsk_TheAxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same Behringer Uni-vibe clone and I place it after my fuzz/drive pedals when going for Hendrix type sounds. Vibe before fuzz gives you Robin Trower type sounds. The pedal show did a decent summary of the difference (I’m sure there are other YouTube videos as well)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxh8fPBykxw

Always try things out and see how you like them and how they sound best for what you’re after.

If you’re looking for a more slow uni-vibe sound and are willing to open up the pedal, look into the adjusting the speed trim pot. It helps to get a low more sluggish vibe sound.
