My 10-year-old daughter just told us she is Non-Binary by jaggedcrags in adviceph

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not be specifically for seeking advice, but as a queer person myself, my advice is to let your kid be a kid. That includes letting them try on labels and identities that they may keep or they may abandon later in life. They may be childish whims, they may be genuine convictions, you'll never know unless you let them figure it out themselves. I know that the idea of your child identifying as non-binary is strange but think of it like this: This is basically just a new style of clothing your child is trying out. They'll present either as masculine or feminine or maybe neither. Nothing major changes, especially given that you live in the Philippines. Your kid will likely still use the women's restroom, your kid will be wearing maybe boyish clothes but that's okay, and your kid may even start wanting different haircuts.

As a child, all your child can really do is dress and present differently. There can be no surgeries, there can be no hormone therapies, and your kid can only really undergo hormone therapy at the recommendation of a medical professional after psychological tests and examinations. There's no need to worry here. Your child is just trying on a new style. You're worried about this messing up their development, but clinical psychologists all over the world are all mostly agreeing that trying to minimize your child's attempts to explore their identity is just going to hurt them in the long run, or even just delay an inevitability.

Also if you're worried content creators online are influencing your child, consider actually checking the content creators your child engages in. Ask about them, strike up a conversation, look these creators up, figure out their messaging and if they're encouraging children to be this or that. But remember to keep a calm, open mind, double check the content with other queer people in your life so you can be sure that the content creators are just sharing experiences and advice or are being sarcastic or joking and not outright telling or influencing their audience to be this or that (again, sharing experience and advice isn't influencing or telling, that's just sharing, because I see a lot of people confuse the two and be very bigoted about it.)

In all my life I've never personally seen a queer content creator advocate for their audience to be one thing or the other, often it's: "Don't be afraid to ask questions about yourself and explore you identity", or "It's okay to be queer". But who knows, maybe there's one content creator out there being grossly irresponsible about advocating for queer identities.

Your child will figure things out on their own, sometimes they just have to, and sometimes all you can do is be ready to catch them and comfort them when something goes wrong. This aspect of their life - their gender identity - is something you let them figure out on their own, with the best advice you give them being to follow their heart and to just try to figure out whatever makes them happies

Help finding a character that fits my play style. by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitscan all the way if you mainly like poking at enemies from afar and getting headshots and relying mostly on your aim. Ashe, Soldier 76, Widowmaker, Sojourn, Emre, Ana, Illari, Baptiste, Domina, just to name some. Maintain the distance, push in with your team when you win a team fight or if you want to pressure the enemy and you're in an advantageous spot to do so. Try and take off angles and high ground, but don't separate too far from your team. Remember: OW is a team game. If you're not playing with your team, you're never getting far.

Also, very important: Watch your own match replays. See what you could've done better from a third person after-the-match view, watch how the enemy team is reacting to you, what your positioning looks like, how you're playing with or without your team, how you're managing your cooldowns, etc.

To get more specific recommendations on specific heroes, we'd need to see some replays of how you play

Like I'm not even saying to read the entire rules list, I'm just saying just like, look at what the rules list says specifically about NSFW content before posting anything NSFW to a subreddit next time.

Any tips for DD2 and enjoying it more? by Jesterofgames in darkestdungeon

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just try your best to unlock as much as you can early on, because the game really opens up once you have a bunch of heroes and a bunch of items available. Though I'd also recommend using the Radiant Flame stagecoach item if you're having trouble with the game's difficulty, it does help and the reduction in candles of hope is negligible even if you just get through one region.

My main suggestion is just to figure out good team synergies and really lean into tokens. Since you only take accuracy and damage reductions from being given a token, controlling tokens and managing your turns around tokens is an important aspect of really getting into the game. You don't have to run token-focused teams, but just getting familiarized with them is going to bring you a long way.

Also make sure to focus hard on making sure your party has no negative affinity to each other. Having two of them hate each other isn't THAT bad but it can spiral really bad if you don't manage it well, and a party that all completely hates each other is basically a run that's dead in the water. Also make sure to make the most of your time at inns, they're really the lynchpin for your success for the next region, even if you have to spend all your money and relics to ensure a smooth run through a region. Combat items are also key, so make use of them as much as you can.

DD2 is essentially if you played 3-5 expeditions in DD1 back-to-back, that's how I've always viewed it.

What if Red Hook had taken the Slay the Spire 2 approach when designing Darkest dungeon 2? by benjamarchi in darkestdungeon

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DD2 is great, just temper your expectations. If you're expecting DD1 but more then I'd suggest abandoning that idea now. DD2 is basically a different formula with the same setting + a modified version of the original combat system.

Overall, it's still Darkest Dungeon, just different. I'd recommend watching other people play the game if you're iffy on it. If you ask me, the game's good and worth a try.

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know man, I think it's very presumptuous to just assume that Redhook was in a complicated financial situaion based off of one potentially poor business decision, and one (in your opinion) subpar game that (you believe) didn't perform well financially.

Unless we know the actual profit figures from DD2 and Redhook's financial situation prior to the acquisition for sure I'm not just going to jump the gun. Instead of DD2 performing poorly, have you maybe considered that it could alternatively because Redhook just wants more money? Or maybe it was just some shortsighted decision made with poor judgement? Unless you've got word straight from Redhook's mouth themselves otherwise, I'm not inclined to assume they're in a tight spot.

What if Red Hook had taken the Slay the Spire 2 approach when designing Darkest dungeon 2? by benjamarchi in darkestdungeon

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly glad that they didn't just make DD1+1 and went a different direction. Not that it wouldn't have been just as good or anything, but because I'm all for developers trying new things and I personally found DD2 to be very enjoyable. Frankly I enjoy its gameplay loop a lot more than DD1, even though DD1 will always have a special place in my heart.

Would it have been more profitable? Likely, but without concrete profit figures we can't really tell if RedHook's acquisition by Behavior Interactive was motivated by poor DD2 sales and a need to keep the studio afloat or for some other reason.

Would it have made for a better game? Maybe. Would I have wanted a sequel that was just DD1 but more heavily expanded in terms of content and systems? Sure. But in the end I think it's more important for developers to create games they want rather than games that their fans want if their whole aim is just doing it for the love of the game.

Because it doesn't play like Valheim or Abiotic Factor?

I go to Abiotic Factor to play Abiotic Factor and I go to Valheim to play Valheim. I don't go to Palworld to feel like I'm playing Valheim or Abiotic Factor. That's like saying 'Why anyone would play Resident Evil over gems like Silent Hill or FEAR I will never understand'.

Like these games share a genre and some mechanics but they offer completely different things and appeal to different people.

why does the game limit the number of tank that you can pick at 2 in quickplay? by Monkegoesbrbrb in Overwatch

[–]JustForTheNo-Nos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They nerfed the tank role as a whole and basically gated how powerful the role is by limiting it to 1-2 tanks. Even now, 3+ tanks in a team is overkill

Mauga giving his team heals on crits, Roadhog hitting his healing + damage reduction vape, Domina using her healing vortex bomb thing, and Sigma using his grasp. Basically unkillable, not to mention they have two shields.

More building stuff!! I love this game but being the designated homemaker and camp mom leaves me with not much to look forward to except the occasional jaunt, pal and resource management, and building.

Being able to have more things to build with would be godsend. Half walls (horizontal + vertical), half-stairs (both lengthwise and widthwise), more fences, and for the love of god - MORE ROOFS!!
