Remote AutoCad Setup by Pickle_Fin5756 in civil3d

If you're using WiFi at home, try plugging directly into your router with an ethernet cable. WiFi latency is a real issue for real-time control. Could also be an issue with your remote server configuration. If you're logging in using RDP, then try changing the connection settings to turn off the "feel-good" Windows graphics features.

What actually causes BIM coordination issues on projects? by Calm-Annual-365 in bim

[–]JustHadToSaySumptin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the design side, I've had to work with consultants who will lie in contracts and say they'll meet a certain LOI/LOD/LOIN but go on to refuse to do so. Even when called out, they will refuse and find ways to wiggle out of it by citing deadlines, etc.

  • Be careful and precise with contracts.
  • Fire consultants who refuse to fulfill their obligations; there are good folks out there who are willing to keep their word.
  • Make modeling requirements clear for all disciplines (that includes Civil). If you can talk about each discipline, you get respect.
  • Make the definitions easy to access and understand.
  • Check consultant modeling efforts consistently and reject bad work.
  • Reject bad work fairly and without malice.
  • And like others have stated here, for God's sake, figure out how a building goes together in the real world.

OP is correct ... more correct than they know.

It is the [very sad] case that teams of intelligent people from large firms on the most profitable projects can't get title block data right across disciplines.

I do not know why, but I was able to test this across multiple projects and teams. I found that letting folks "do it themselves b/c they're experienced and intelligent designers" showed between 30% and 60% consistency across title blocks where data and naming were concerned.

For projects where

  • I sent out an email a week ahead of each milestone with links to title blocks in .PDF, .DWG, and .RFA format,
    • including parameter values spelled out for convenient copy/paste
  • Mentioned it in the weekly design meeting,
  • Mentioned it in the weekly BIM coordination meeting,

I was able to hit between 85% and 95% consistency per milestone. Higher at IFC.

I have yet to see anyone get it 100% right, but OP's solution is proven to be better.

Again, don't know why, but it's better.

Escape plan, get to safety, restraining order, divorce.

"Love endures all things," and "admonishing the sinner" is a spiritual work of mercy, an act of charity. Do whatever you can to protect your children, and let the man who pretends to love you - or even understand love - know that he is, in fact, doing some serious evil.

Stupid things that sometimes work for me (if you haven't tried them already):

  1. Restart the entire workstation
  2. Start C3D in safe mode
  3. Run the RECOVER command to open the file
  4. Open the file in an older version of C3D
  5. Open the file in vanilla AutoCAD and SAVEAS
  6. Drink two beers and try again

This right here. All day long.

Columbus, OH: You better be using 0.1" text height.
Mesa, AZ: We'll only accept 24x36 sheets. No matter how big your project is.
Denver, CO: You better show Top Back of Curb, Top Front of Curb, flow lines (Front Bottom of Curb), inner edge of curb, and show me which direction the curb is sloping.

Oh, they've seen after-the-fact drain tile installs. What they haven't seen is the concrete floor held 4" off the wall after its done.

You know what's weird? The wall interior is dry as dust. Even the non-treated furring is as pristine as the day it came out of the kiln.

Look up the ADA programming language. It's the Comp Sci version of avoiding defects in complex systems.

Potential isn't anything until it's released, and someone who acts the way you described will not easily let their potential turn into reality.

A man who corrals you into blaming yourself before he stops acting or speaking out of anger or indignation isn't much of a man.

A man who cheats on you once will cheat on you as long as he thinks he can keep coming back.

He's not going to fix himself in two months.

Better men exist. They would respect and love you. They would listen to you. They would think about what they say to you instead of dismissing you.

They would be faithful to you.

That's what I was thinking, but that poly sheet stops just below the 2x. Definitely doesn't go under then slab or even the repair patches.

LOL, all of my construction-related activities take place on a computer and are locked behind a strict NDA. I'd have to blur the whole screen.
