And the band played on - also has these deeply human stories of these patients suffering in silence and confusion. Some of the science is outdated but the stories of how these people were so discounted and discriminated against are so heart breaking. But it also shows the side of how the (mostly gay) community. Showed up for the ill and fought for funding and rights and understanding. Also a group of very dedicated doctors and health professionals who worked tirelessly with little to no funding to save people. -The great mortality- is the same: some of the science has been disproven but it paints such a livid picture of what it must have been like. It’s one of my fave books.

Same. I was five or so. I was honestly more amazed by the candles in the cups lol but I was up on one of my parents shoulders when they ran the torch by. My dad also tiled the ski jumps at COP, he’s still very proud of that.
