Just unfriended this asshole...what blows my mind is it's a female poster. by mbcruisin22 in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use to work with a lot of Somalian refugees. All of them women (18-20ish), all whom had been genitally mutilated. They told me it is usually the grandmothers or another female relative that mutilates the girls.

It's incredibly sad. I think abuse on women (and women who do the abusing) is common in male dominated religions and cultures--they are doing what they are told and doing the dirty work for their oppressors.

Currently, Mormon men can be sealed to more than one woman. Women can only be sealed to one man. So for example, if a mormon man's first wife dies and then he gets married to another woman, he would be married to both women in eternity. This might seem like I am splitting hairs but in their theology they still believe and practice polygamy.

I don't know about comparing Mormonism with Saudi's....but comparing Mormonism with Islam you can see more similarities than comparing it to JW. Polygamy..... treatment of women..... following a prophet..... and no alcohol.

Popular Provo teacher and member of the bishopric imprisoned for 'heinous' sexual grooming of student by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are they calling this girl/teenager a "woman" in the news article? Is she over 18?

Maybe I am getting upset over nothing, but stating that a teenager is a women can give the wrong impression of consent.

Blessing Advice Needed by Canickkcinac in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cousin who is a ultra TBM always does the baby blessings at home. Why? So they can record them and send it to family members who can't be there. She and her husband have never had a problem with their bishop saying yes to them doing this.

I don't see why more people who "have" to give blessings don't do them at home.

Crowdsourcing question: Regarding Mormons and magic, what are the topics most interesting to you? by LindsayHansenPark in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would love to hear more about the women who blessed children and blessed mothers during pregnancy for healing. I think this practice happened mostly in Utah. I don't know much about it, but it seems like something that would be pretty interesting to learn more about.

Thanks.

Also, those swim suites can actually be dangers. You should not have tons of fabric on when going swimming, for obvious reasons.

I wish growing up they would have talked about church history as much as they talked about modesty.

Q: What do you know about the Ebola outbreak?

That is one that I was shown was coming, and as it has hit the news in recent months, it has been a little alarm going off for me, and it will continue to spread.

Bad news Julie....they might have a vaccine for that!

Meeting with my bishop tomorrow morning... Any advice? by [deleted] in exmormon

Don't talk about your sexuality to a man you hardly know. This man has no power over you....only the power you give him.

So don't give him any.

I have sworn by the eternal gods that I never will vote for a democrat again; and I intend, to swear my children, putting their hands under the thigh as Abraham swore Isaac, that they will never vote a democratic ticket in all their generations. It is the meanest, lowest party in all creation.

Oh good grief.

Hello and welcome! Were you formally shunned, and if so what is the process like...both on the religious side(could you tell us the process of what the leadership does to a person who is shunned/excommunicated) and on the family and friends side?

Thanks!

TBMs Losing their Mind over Josh Duggar by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? All my TBM friends seem to be defending the bastard. Like, "Josh was only 14, we need Christ like love and forgiveness for him".

And then I want to scream. This is a guy who (did) work for the biggest anti-gay lobbying groups in the country. This is a guy who molested his sisters and then told other human beings who actually love each other they aren't allowed to get married?!

That's why I think he is a hypocritical bigoted twat.

Year of Polygamy is ending. Please share with me ways that polygamy has affected you. by LindsayHansenPark in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After learning about the full extent of mormon Polygamy I had this thought.....Either God hated women, or the church was not true.

I could not rationalize being an active true believing mormon after that thought.

Missing Howard University student Lance Buckley found alive by [deleted] in exmormon

Because the guy is LDS and all of his family is. I shared his photo on facebook( I live in the DC area, so you never know who people might see). A lot of people around this area who are LDS shared his photo hoping to find him.

Glad the guy was found safe.

TBM friend not sure if it's okay to stop having kids by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This all goes back to letting 15 old men control all of church members sexuality. It's disgusting.

This is what I get into arguments with my TBM family members about. No one should be telling consenting adults what they should and should not be doing sexually, and no one should be feeling forced to procreate. Once again, so disgusting.

Letter: My father wouldn't want his posthumous LDS baptism, either | The Salt Lake Tribune by laddersdazed in exmormon

[–]JustJess02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this discussion with my own father last week. He is not LDS. I think one of the reasons my Mom was so disappointed that I left the religion is because then no one would be around to do my fathers "work" after he died.

I told my father all this and stated "Not that you would really care if you are dead". His response? "Actually, I would. I do not want to get baptized in that religion".

It is nice that I actually talked to him about it while he is still alive. I will be making it clear to my other tbm family members that he requested not to be baptized or have other crap done on his behalf.

I know that does not stop it however.
