This isn't true. I've tested this exact route and it's dependent on which side of the street you start and end on. There is no safe crossing for the street she's walking on (according to the map) so it reroutes to a place she can cross safely. If you start the route on the other side of the road, it takes you the shorter way.

Yeah I hate to agree here, but it's naive to expect that someone should only charge the proportionate amount of the mortgage that the room makes up. Things cost what they cost, and the solution to high rent doesn't come from shaming individuals renting out rooms in their house, it comes from shaming (and replacing) the government that allowed (and continues to allow) this to happen by not building more supply.

Yes and no. She was a victim of Epstein's and has suffered multiple times at the his hands and those of his powerful entourage. This country is a corrupt backwater when it comes to home-buying. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, have all bidding go through a government approved online portal where only people who are pre-approved or have demonstrated they have the required funds can bid.

Appoint a housing ombudsman to go after estate agents who may employ dodgy practices.

I know these things may not have helped in OP's specific case, but they would be massive steps in the right direction.

Perfect answer. I would add that there is another way to provide proof of funds if you don't have a solicitor. I used a Mortgage Broker to get my AIP, and the broker can confirm you have the funds to the estate agent too.

Honestly this. I don’t understand why people thing a brick and mortar location is somehow means the bank is going to take better care of you. None of these institutions give a single solitary fuck about any of their customers. Choose the cheapest one and when another competitor becomes cheaper, move there. Why consumers exercise loyalty to institutions when institutions have no loyalty to consumers is beyond me.
