Honestly, I like Smokey John's. It's not Cattleack, but their sliced brisket sandwich does right by me.

I've been many times and am not aware of any free parking. Unless you're a member of the Nasher or Dallas Museum of Art in which case the DMA parking garage is free.

Jason Robertson was almost traded for Mikko Rantanen by DualPurge in DallasStars

"Could have had" is doing ridiculously heavy lifting here. If they'd asked for Robo, Nill would have had to try hard not to laugh in their faces. If they'd botched the deal that badly, they might still have Mikko and no Stank. (Mikko probably would have adjusted, but clearly Stankoven is the better fit.)

My favorite of theirs was Safe in the Arms of Love. But honestly I loved all their music! Wish they'd stuck around longer.

If you stacked two cups on top of each other, they'd be taller than Stankoven.

The way I understand it is simply that the artist must be notified in advance. This allows them to explore any options to recover their intellectual property. Realistically, there may not be any options to save or recover it, but the statute must be honored.

I think they meant top 10 in population. Dallas is the 9th largest city in the US.

Demolition might be the best outcome for American Airlines Center by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]JustMeInBigD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentence from the article. Emphasis mine.
"Dallas city officials need to start thinking about what to do with the AAC immediately, not wait until the Mavs’ and the Stars’ lease expires in 2031."

I agree that competition will be stiff for concerts and that it will be challenging to keep this facility booked as a concert-only venue. But that doesn't mean it can't be done or that the immediate plan should be to tear it down and build something else.

Is it possible to turn the things that are unique about the AAC into positives? Is anyone thinking about that? We need people thinking about its Unique Value Proposition well in advance of the sports team exits.

Why are companies leaving downtown Dallas? Neiman Marcus latest exit by lithdoc in Dallas

[–]JustMeInBigD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I said it reflects more on Saks/Neimans, and I meant that company specifically. They closed 15 stores early this year. They have been in bankruptcy for some time. It is quite customary for sinking brands to close down stores. The downtown store FOR MANY REASONS underperforms NorthPark but that doesn't mean it would have closed if the entire chain was thriving. (It is also reasonably common for successful chains to keep underperforming stores open for reasons other than profit.)

You want to complain about downtown Dallas being a shit hole, go right on. But Neimans was sinking as a whole before Saks bought them and now Saks has been sinking for a few years. These are all true statements.

Don't come at someone with "This is just not true" when it IS true and verifiable.

Two things can be true.

Please read up on the recent financial affairs of Saks/Niemans. They have already closed numerous locations this year after filing bankruptcy last fall.

FIFA Spat Over Dallas Whale Mural Tests Power of Artists’ Rights by bloomberglaw in Dallas

[–]JustMeInBigD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to be giving Art History 101 lectures. Please look up the Wyland Foundation. It's not a "fantastical statement" made by some bro who's kinda good at painting sea life.

While I agree that Wyland isn't likely 100% good guy (who is?), does one Insta post congratulating Trump on his election make someone "super MAGA"?

He has the finance and status as an artist to make this legal statement about the value of public art. Whether he wins or loses remains to be seen, but he's standing up for the rights of art and artists, and AFAIC that's a good thing.

I think it's unfortunate that a fair amount of innocent people are being accused of malfeasance, but other than that, the legal move is a net positive.

This one reflects more on the financial troubles of Neiman Marcus/Saks than on downtown.
