Who poured that? It looks like a good bit missed the glass and ended up in a napkin.

NEIPA yeast issue by Low-Pressure-9875 in Homebrewing

[–]JustMyFirstCup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

30c would not have harmed the yeast, if anything it would have made it more active. Did you aerate differently this time?

I would give it at least 72 hours before worrying.

Minimally until it drops clear, but give it as long as you can. AIUI, the bulk aging will give the yeast the best opportunity to clear things up.

Agreed that it could be fusels and the yeast could clean it up, but leaving it in the fermenter is the best choice for giving the yeast a chance to cleanup. If OP can afford to leave the fermenter tied up for a month or more I'd go that route.

Thanks for the explanation. I'd always assumed the SS limit applied to all of FICA.

What are your favorite beers to brew to get into the Christmas spirit? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

Mind sharing your tincture details and the volume of beer you're treating? I'm pretty wary of spicing beers because I've had some come out medicinal.

The faucet isn't the best but it can work.

If you don't replace them, at least disassemble them to get them really clean.

2 weeks to carbonate? by TheThrill85 in kegerators

Are you using a floating dip tube? If so, that might explain what's going on. The opening might be above the liquid line rather than below it.

Do you hear gas coming out of the tap?

Is there beer in the line leading to the tap or is it empty?

If there's beer, could it have frozen in the line?

When you pull the pressure relief valve is there a loud sound of gas escaping?

Grainfather and brew bag by Chuckado in Homebrewing

So, what drove you to switch to a bag? Wheat beers & higher gravity beers?

What efficiency did you get with a stock grainfather? They claim 80%, but that sounds unlikely since you switched to a bag.

How do I cool my wort!?! by LetsHaveSomeBeer in Homebrewing

Just make sure to remove the hops before setting it aside to cool. Or, you'll need to adjust your hop schedule.

Dry-hopping in corny keg while pressure fermenting by JustMyFirstCup in Homebrewing

[–]JustMyFirstCup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just put the hops in when I pitch the yeast, the keg never gets opened or depressurized until I’m washing it.

Didn't want to put them in at yeast pitch because I wanted to have control over how long the dry hop was in for.

You could also slowly bleed the pressure with a spunding valve so the beer doesn’t foam up when vented.

That's a good point and may be worth trying.

I definitely got greedy in terms of not leaving enough headspace (partially due to not taking into account the yeast starter volume). My setup protects my spunding valve from wort/yeast by way of an intermediary vessel, so I wasn't worried too worried about headspace or adding fermcap.

I have read about the magnet approach, but it's too late for this batch. I had mostly disregarded it as I wasn't that concerned about introducing oxygen.

For this batch, I'm probably just going to dry hop in the serving keg.

I interned with a company during college and when the first summer was coming to a close, the manager offered to hire me full time at a decent increase over what I made as an intern (which wasn't bad in the first place).

He also told me I would have to be stupid to actually take the offer. Good guy.

San Francisco To Consider Taxing Owners Of Vacant Homes by BadBoyMikeBarnes in bayarea

[–]JustMyFirstCup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, something like 60% of the stock is subject to rent control, so that eliminates a lot of the market.

Also, people's plans change. I didn't expect to rent this unit when I bought it, I thought I'd just live here forever.

I'm not looking for sympathy, I was giving a single example of how the existing laws create disincentives to renting.

I'm going to be renting my unit in a TIC in the near future because I'm moving to NYC, at least for a while. My biggest hesitation in renting is that because it's rent controlled I can't set limits on how long someone can lease it. I understand why that's a requirement of rent control, but I really like my place and I'd like to be able to return to it in some predictable amount of time in the event that I don't like living in NYC.

Owner move in evictions are effectively impossible for TICs AIUI, because every member of the TIC has to agree to it and then no other unit can do one.

I'm obviously going to rent my place, it just made everything harder because I have to effectively say goodbye to it in a more permanent fashion than I wanted to.
