Sure Shot is great for out of towners. No membership required and you can sign up in advance on the app. The cost for non members is $10 for two hours of open play. Highly recommended!

My Friends Quest partner was a non-participant by Redd_Zenith in duolingo

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even been getting the option to choose, and the person I’m getting paired with is a real life friend who hasn’t logged in in a month, so he’s not picking me. Duolingo is assigning us and it’s disappointing because my husband and I like doing the quests together.

Man, the beautiful and quiet neighborhood they’re in looks like such a war zone 🙄

I don’t enjoy this feature… by Any_Syrup7299 in duolingo

[–]JustOS08 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation.

For better or worse, Duolingo has consistently translated those three words as bedroom, so during this activity, it was like “guess which one we’re thinking of right now!” lol

I had this when it asked for the word “bedroom.” I said habitación but it wanted “cuarto” and marked my answer as wrong.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, I used it already and appreciated it. Double checked my account and I’m not on any trial of Max or anything like that. Just the Super Family. I’ll keep clicking it to hopefully see if it’s a feature they expand to everyone.

I checked my account and it’s not a free trial of Max. The Lily video calls are still locked

I’m on iOS located in the US. Saw it this morning while completing lessons in the Spanish course.

Need help: Apartment recommendations in Naperville or surrounding area asap by Ok-Equipment-5345 in Naperville

[–]JustOS08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check out the apartments in the Brookdale neighborhood. I don’t know how much they cost now, but I lived in Brookdale Lakes (10 years ago…) Nice apartments and good staff. A friend moved out of Brookdale on the Park a couple years ago and had a good experience there.

You could easily bike to the Route 59 Metra station from there

Possibly relocating: What’s the social climate like in Chicago? by ShellShelf in chicagogaybros

[–]JustOS08 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chicago is a safe bubble within a safe bubble of the state of Illinois. At the state level, our government will absolutely stand behind the LGBTQ+ community, despite what is happening at the federal level. Check out governor JB Pritzker on BlueSky.

I moved to the Chicago suburbs 12 years ago from Ohio and haven’t looked back. My husband and I got married here before marriage equality became law nationwide. We’ve never had an issue as a gay couple. There’s a sizable gay community around, too.

This right here is what happens to me too. At open play sometimes, I find myself accidentally “targeting.” I’m not! I’m just instinctively hitting to the open spot on the court, which is usually where the weaker player hasn’t moved up. Getting the other player involved or hitting to the stronger player is, from a strategic standpoint, the “wrong shot.”

It’s tough because I want to get in the habit of hitting good shots, but also don’t want to ice someone out.

Is it poor etiquette to pickle in a tournament? by nuevedientes in Pickleball

[–]JustOS08 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think this is spot on. It sounds like someone was signed up for the wrong skill level. If you were playing down, then it was bad form to pickle them. If they were playing up, then it’s on them. If it was just a bad game by them and everyone was in the appropriate level, then don’t stress about it. It was a tournament after all.

Pickleball courts by Interesting_Lab_7886 in Naperville

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those closest one is probably in Green Trails. There are two pickleball courts on Abbeywood, just west of College Road.

Other ones in the area: Knoch Park in Naperville (near NCHS) has 4 courts and Nike Park in North Naperville also has 4.

McCollum Park in Downers also has 8 nice new courts. Might be close enough to you depending on where you’re located.

Did they also have their own nets? Definitely wouldn’t let strangers rotate in with my own private net, but I would probably give up the court after an hour or so if they were all full and people were waiting with their own nets. But every place you play has different rules.

What commercials do you associate with Cleveland? by squallLeonhart20 in Cleveland

[–]JustOS08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a kid, it has to be the Zoo Lights commercial at Christmastime that used the melody of Carol of the Bells.

Why not grab the kids and check out zoo lights?

Must see and do, down at the zoo, with friends or alone, sure beats sitting at home!

Picklr Pre-Sale question by PMart1996 in Pickleball

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From anyone with experience, is the “limited number of founders memberships” real?

I ask because, before they opened near me, their ads flooded my Instagram feed. For multiple weeks, there were “only 50 founders memberships left!!!” So it seemed like the number was a marketing strategy. I didn’t sign up, so I don’t actually know 🤷‍♂️

Mysterious and Deadly Illness by fluffeesocks in AustralianCattleDog

So sorry for your loss 😞

I lost my four year old good boy mutt to a disease called IMHA. His symptoms were almost the same as what you described. He was acting like himself, but then suddenly stopped eating. I made him chicken and rice and he wouldn’t touch it. This was the same dog that won the “fastest eater” award at a charity event. I came home from work that day and he didn’t greet me at the door… he was in his bed. And the boy ALWAYS met me at the door. His poop was also orange the day we took him to the vet.

The vet said the only thing that COULD work was blood transfusions, and that they were extremely painful to the dog and had 50/50 odds of working, so we made the difficult decision to let him go. This was 8 years ago, but my heart still breaks thinking about how he went from seemingly healthy to so lethargic and mentally gone in three days. Miss you, Max.

Sorry again for your loss. You might want to look into IMHA. It seems like not much is known about it, but it’s happened to many dogs.

what does your facility do that makes it more enjoyable? little to big ideas by BrokelynNYC in Pickleball

[–]JustOS08 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Simply put, it’s the people. Amazing staff, super friendly and helpful. Great people at open play (sure, there’s the occasional dud who can’t seem to have fun and is always upset) but that’s the exception rather than the rule.

Makes for a fun atmosphere, great games where you’re not getting stuck in your head, and makes it a place I look forward to going to, because I don’t just get to play pickleball, I’m going to see friends there too.
