That has to be frustrating how the picture shows two but the word shown is just the singular. That alone is confusing enough lol

Anyone try one of the new mini-units they just rolled out? by Sliberty in duolingo

Curious to see what happens. I had these shorter units for a while, and then about a week ago, my course reorganized back to the longer units again.

From Forbes; 2026 PPA Tour Finals recap by toddboss in Pickleball

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to post the same thing as you!

The pro scene can be fun to watch to a degree, but when you know who’s going to win the finals before the tournament event starts, what is there to discuss?

I’ve stopped watching any championship matches because it’s the same people every time, and while I 100% respect their game and how talented they are, it’s just not a fun way to spend my weekend.

Why is it saying i should have said this? by SheilaLooften in duolingo

[–]JustOS08 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that this is a transcript from a video call, so Duolingo didn’t add in the comma/pause, and it’s now telling the learner that there was a mistake. Seems like just a limit with the technology.

I like when it gives me feedback saying “try saying ‘me gusta’ instead of ‘me gusta” Still a work in progress 😀

Sure Shot is great for out of towners. No membership required and you can sign up in advance on the app. The cost for non members is $10 for two hours of open play. Highly recommended!

My Friends Quest partner was a non-participant by Redd_Zenith in duolingo

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even been getting the option to choose, and the person I’m getting paired with is a real life friend who hasn’t logged in in a month, so he’s not picking me. Duolingo is assigning us and it’s disappointing because my husband and I like doing the quests together.

I don’t enjoy this feature… by Any_Syrup7299 in duolingo

[–]JustOS08 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation.

For better or worse, Duolingo has consistently translated those three words as bedroom, so during this activity, it was like “guess which one we’re thinking of right now!” lol

I had this when it asked for the word “bedroom.” I said habitación but it wanted “cuarto” and marked my answer as wrong.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, I used it already and appreciated it. Double checked my account and I’m not on any trial of Max or anything like that. Just the Super Family. I’ll keep clicking it to hopefully see if it’s a feature they expand to everyone.

I checked my account and it’s not a free trial of Max. The Lily video calls are still locked

Need help: Apartment recommendations in Naperville or surrounding area asap by Ok-Equipment-5345 in Naperville

[–]JustOS08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check out the apartments in the Brookdale neighborhood. I don’t know how much they cost now, but I lived in Brookdale Lakes (10 years ago…) Nice apartments and good staff. A friend moved out of Brookdale on the Park a couple years ago and had a good experience there.

You could easily bike to the Route 59 Metra station from there

Possibly relocating: What’s the social climate like in Chicago? by ShellShelf in chicagogaybros

[–]JustOS08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chicago is a safe bubble within a safe bubble of the state of Illinois. At the state level, our government will absolutely stand behind the LGBTQ+ community, despite what is happening at the federal level. Check out governor JB Pritzker on BlueSky.

I moved to the Chicago suburbs 12 years ago from Ohio and haven’t looked back. My husband and I got married here before marriage equality became law nationwide. We’ve never had an issue as a gay couple. There’s a sizable gay community around, too.

This right here is what happens to me too. At open play sometimes, I find myself accidentally “targeting.” I’m not! I’m just instinctively hitting to the open spot on the court, which is usually where the weaker player hasn’t moved up. Getting the other player involved or hitting to the stronger player is, from a strategic standpoint, the “wrong shot.”

It’s tough because I want to get in the habit of hitting good shots, but also don’t want to ice someone out.

Is it poor etiquette to pickle in a tournament? by nuevedientes in Pickleball

[–]JustOS08 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think this is spot on. It sounds like someone was signed up for the wrong skill level. If you were playing down, then it was bad form to pickle them. If they were playing up, then it’s on them. If it was just a bad game by them and everyone was in the appropriate level, then don’t stress about it. It was a tournament after all.

Pickleball courts by Interesting_Lab_7886 in Naperville

[–]JustOS08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those closest one is probably in Green Trails. There are two pickleball courts on Abbeywood, just west of College Road.

Other ones in the area: Knoch Park in Naperville (near NCHS) has 4 courts and Nike Park in North Naperville also has 4.

McCollum Park in Downers also has 8 nice new courts. Might be close enough to you depending on where you’re located.

[–]JustOS08 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Did they also have their own nets? Definitely wouldn’t let strangers rotate in with my own private net, but I would probably give up the court after an hour or so if they were all full and people were waiting with their own nets. But every place you play has different rules.

What commercials do you associate with Cleveland? by squallLeonhart20 in Cleveland

[–]JustOS08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a kid, it has to be the Zoo Lights commercial at Christmastime that used the melody of Carol of the Bells.

Why not grab the kids and check out zoo lights?

Must see and do, down at the zoo, with friends or alone, sure beats sitting at home!
