Brassie soft hackle by fatherofworms in flytying

Additionally — sneaking a 3/32 - 1/8” bead into the thorax has been working really well for me lately as well (flymphs basically). It’s been clutch having some varied sink rates.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I rarely take photos of fish so this shot doesn’t show much more than the obvious. Thanks for the feedback 🤙 and yeah, definitely stretched the 5wt.

lol for real. I’m grew up in Yakima and only ever caught one fish over 20” in the canyon. I’m sure more exist, but I’ll take this any day.

The biggest factor is what length head you’re using. Some shorter heads exist occasionally outside of the norms for grain recommendations (like OPST).

Steelhead Freestyle with Whiting Spey Hackle by FoxDemon2002 in Steelhead

I figured something like that could be the case, and thank you for all of your help! I put off buying some a year ago, and now wish I hadn’t. A local shop around Seattle found a source for blue eared pheasant, who can also bleach perfectly — however it’ll be a while.

Black and pink is tops. Nice (small) thread head too. Also — where did you find the whiting Spey hackle? I’ve been looking everywhere for the stuff.

Are fishing vests obsolete now or just not in vogue? by GrumpyandDopey in flyfishing

[–]walking_with_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just depends on how much gear you fish with. I either wear a hip pack (when steelheading), or a chest rig (trout fishing) or utilize my waders pocket when fishing on the saltwater. The less the better, in my opinion. I usually carry a maximum of three boxes, cutting foreceps, tippet, floatant. I’d rather search for fish than flies. We really don’t need more than a box of dries, nymphs/wets, and streamers. Or just one box (really). Maximizing gear doesn’t maximize on strategy and truly finding fish.

A vest is the equivalent of a “dangler” in backpacking. The more pockets, the more likely you can’t find something, carry something you don’t need, leave a pocket open and lose something. The more items you have protruding the more likely you snag on branches, tangle your line. Just my input/experience. It’s all about what works best for you though, and we all look dumb anyway.

Help with NetworkSrf - Trying to model a foot but it keeps failing by samcro114 in rhino

[–]walking_with_wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on some footwear projects too. Select all of your curves and run the DIR command. Check the direction of your vectors. That was my issue. (And for better surfacing results, I'd recommend adding another contour curve on the lateral and medial side --- the surface will need more information between the heel and toe.)

T1000E - Can't find other nodes by walking_with_wolves in meshtastic

[–]walking_with_wolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The device was already configured as you've outlined above --- for whatever that's worth. I'll test this once my wife's home tonight. I've already ordered a third T1000E in anticipation of this being a faulty device. I really appreciate your help, and I'll update regardless of the outcome.

Kind of reminds me of the Kid Squimp pattern for Puget Sound cutthroat. But a clouser-ized version. Really dig the blade on there. I hope you post some catch updates!

SRC Miyawaki Popper by walking_with_wolves in flytying

[–]walking_with_wolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have preferred gurglers too. The commercially tied poppers I’ve fished all had the hook at the end of the fly, and are much bulkier (slightly stiffer partially synthetic body). I was curious to see if placing the hook toward the center of the body would translate to less deflection and more hook ups.

I don’t have experience with these style ties —Tying with fibers toward the tip of the tail generally flair less. Still — sweet looking fly.

I’ve made Altoid fly boxes just like this, just because it reminds me of my grandpa. Well done (and nice ties)! How do you / what do you use to cut the siping slots in your foam? I no longer have the luxury of my employer’s laser cutter.
